This is using the newgen definition of aura.

Aura is the sum of many things, but it's mostly a combination of looks and attitude; meaning if you are "sexy" and "cool", you have lots of "aura".

Basically the image is saying they see a girl who's a 10 dating a guy who's a 5.

[–] ObviouslyNotBanana@piefed.world 96 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Damn I just realized my jargon is 6 months out of date.

[–] Thoath@leminal.space 27 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

They said they're excited about yogurt.

[–] Thoath@leminal.space 17 points 3 weeks ago

And gangrene

[–] MystikIncarnate@lemmy.ca 36 points 3 weeks ago

How I feel about this:

[–] Senseless@feddit.org 20 points 3 weeks ago

Only kind of aura I experience is from migraines.

[–] TriflingToad@sh.itjust.works 17 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

the fact that the explanation of the joke has more upvotes than the joke itself is very funny

[–] dream_weasel@sh.itjust.works 12 points 3 weeks ago

Geeked off... the yart. Mhmm.

Is that what you would call a high rizz activity?

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 10 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

What if I'm neither sexy nor cool but I bring lots of snacks

[–] dawcas@scribe.disroot.org 5 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

You can jump up from 5 to 7, even more depending on the snacks.

I would like to request a translation

Basically, they saw a couple where one of the people had high energy and the other person had low energy.

My kibitz is that in electronics, sometimes, rather than grounding to 0 volts, you will ground to something like -12 volts, which makes the actual 12 volts on the other side seem like 24 volts inside of the circuit.

Or consider the cheerleader effect, where when you place a bunch of women in a group together, and dress them in a way that they look similar, and then evaluate them, as a whole, the average attractiveness score will be higher than each of the individuals.

So all I'm saying is, is that the person who seemed like they had high aura in that couple might have been profiting off of the evident disparity between them and the low aura side, and if you took the high aura person out of the relationship they might just have ordinary aura.

[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 19 points 3 weeks ago (4 children)

Witchcraft, how do you make negative voltage?

[–] MBech@feddit.dk 13 points 3 weeks ago

You suck on the electricity REALLY hard. That makes an electrical vacuum. You can try it right now. Put your mouth on the charging port of your phone, and suck really hard. Now the difference in electrical levels will make your screen brighter while you suck.

[–] bizarroland@lemmy.world 11 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

It is dark magic but from what I understand it's *done by placing a portion of the circuit behind the power supply, so that it's both pushing 12 volts and pulling 12 volts.

I don't think that that is enough of an understanding to replicate the phenomenon, but if you were designing such a circuit with a gun to your head and no know how, it might be enough for you to figure it out and save your own life.

[–] NaibofTabr@infosec.pub 6 points 3 weeks ago

Easy, you just subtract a higher voltage from a lower voltage. Thats just maths.

Alternatively, just swap the red and black probes on your multimeter, and now your positive voltage is negative.

Or, just twist that knob on your oscope.

Depends on relative to what.

Connected to the wall: it's AC (alternating current). half the wave is already negative. You can rectify it backwards, apparently. Or, you can use a split phase transformer.

Connected to a really big battery: big inverter just swaps the leads on the battery really fast.

Hold in your hand: negative charge pump. Magic & momentum.

[–] benignintervention@lemmy.world 15 points 3 weeks ago

Can it work the other way too? Like an excessively high energy person makes a normal energy person seem less so?

[–] TriflingToad@sh.itjust.works 11 points 3 weeks ago

using voltage to try to explain what aura is is SO funny to me

[–] ObviouslyNotBanana@piefed.world 26 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Duckduckgo hallucinated this for me

[–] benignintervention@lemmy.world 30 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Thank you, I will now internalize this for future silly misuse

[–] ObviouslyNotBanana@piefed.world 11 points 3 weeks ago

It's when two people are together but their vibes seem to not vibe together. They're discordant rather than harmonious if you catch my drift

[–] callouscomic@lemmy.zip 41 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

As interpreted from a 3rd party?

Wow. I'd tell them to get fucked.

It's a different cultural way of forcing like-valued slaves to mate with each other. Same thing with someone being a 10, or below you, or above you, or worth more because of whatever slave attributes they display.

Even if it's total BS ... wtf is an "aura-gap" relationship??

Is it a relationship where they basically ignore each other or something?

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 35 points 3 weeks ago

I believe it's like an air gap in a network. Both parties keep their distance and wear impenetrable chastity devices.

[–] TheBat@lemmy.world 10 points 3 weeks ago

*an aura-gap
