sick of all this fucking DEI in japan, a country with like 9 black people

[–] Meltyheartlove@hexbear.net 26 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 children)

DEI in japan would probably include white people too I guess but that wouldn't be a problem for them.

[–] laziestflagellant@hexbear.net 12 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

Trying to convince chuds that it was DEI when they let James Turner design the cringe woke Vanillite line (it's just ice cream, we hate object design pokemon now for some reason)

[–] Carl@hexbear.net 14 points 5 days ago

The largest racial minority in Japan is US troops (idk if that's true but I read it somewhere and it sounds provocative and interesting so I repeat it a lot) so really the DEI is every time an anime character is white or American.

"what happened to pokemon designs" is you're 40 years old now, you are no longer the target audience

[–] Carl@hexbear.net 21 points 5 days ago (4 children)

Honestly the Pokedex does need a thorough purge. Get rid of all of the fap bait, the "humans in a costume", and the gimmickmon (that includes all mega evolutions).

[–] AssortedBiscuits@hexbear.net 13 points 5 days ago (2 children)

I blame the decline of Digimon, which lead to the Digimonfication of Pokemon design.

Look at the original design. Angewomamon from Digimon this critter ain't

If someone wants to fuck this thing it says more about them than Game Freak. I don't think it's Game Freak's fault weird nerds oversexualise anything even vaguely girl-shaped

Also that Wikipedia article is fucking hilarious michael-laugh

[–] Carl@hexbear.net 6 points 5 days ago

Maybe I was being a bit harsh yesterday, but Gardevoir still gives "person in a costume" energy to me.

Like, compare to Bellossom.

Bellossom also gives "person in a costume" energy, but the plantlike elements are much stronger and the humanlike elements are much weaker, so this one would get a pass in my Pokedex.

[–] purpleworm@hexbear.net 10 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (2 children)

I don't think the humanoids are so bad, just overrepresented and maybe a little too human (contrast Mewtwo)

And the gimmicks are fun angery

[–] Carl@hexbear.net 9 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 children)

maddened

I'm a gen oner and I say that every Pokemon should be based on an animal or object!pay no attention to polywhirl, abra, machop, hitmonlee, hitmonchan, mr mime, jynx, or mewtwo

Sprigatito becoming a humanoid cat is top 10 worst gamefreak decision

[–] purpleworm@hexbear.net 9 points 5 days ago

I honestly like the final stage's design (mostly the mask), but I do definitely agree that there's a massive over-representation of humanoids in starter lines generally

Dragonite should mega evolve into a straight white man. A normal, relatable, straight white divorced man who likes to knock a couple of beers back every now and then which is perfectly normal and no reason for that b***h Evelyn to take his Mega Dragonite kids.

[–] Chana@hexbear.net 31 points 5 days ago (4 children)

Pokemon designs have never been good eric-andre

Even the originals were just semi-random animals and objects turned into "monsters" and they looked weird. They got anime-fied to be cuter later. And they have only gotten increasingly more abstract and dumb. New switch pokemon had ones that turned into motorcycles.

Only Bulbasaur is free of my wrath.

I bet you feel really stupid right now

While I know where you're coming from clearly the designs are actually really good in context (of being for children).

[–] Carl@hexbear.net 11 points 5 days ago

The lizard motorcycles are one of the good ones though. Except for the one that looks like a motorcycle but runs on its feet anyway, that's dumb as hell.

Hard agree. No penis NO PURCHASE. Bring back the original 151 in their ORIGINAL form, with FULL PENIS.

[–] laziestflagellant@hexbear.net 26 points 5 days ago (6 children)

The real DEI was when they let some woke artist design dragonite after stealing it right out of the hands of based Atsuko Nishida (who designed dratini and dragonair)

Why does dragonite look like a stupid orange Barney dragon instead of a beautiful blue serpentine dragon? And why does its shiny suck ass? That's right, it's because of woke.

[–] Flyberius@hexbear.net 21 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Shouldn't these guys be out their trying to boost white birth rates instead of worrying about a kids computer game?

Nintendont is doing DEI by giving megaevolutions to the already good mons like the pseudolegendaries instead of the humble shitmons like magcargo and ledyba

I remember being 12 years old, lying down in bed during a midsummer afternoon staring into space after having just woken up. Sunlight entered my room but the shadow of the dresser draped over a contrastingly dark area.

I thought I saw a dog in that dark pit. I swear it was staring back at me. I stared at it for a long time, afraid to get up. What if this was part of a robbery, and the dog’s here to make sure I don’t do any funny business? What if it attacks if I get up?

I know I was hallucinating as a dumb teenager, but this was a formative experience for me, and it’s the reason why I’m a staunch advocate against DEI. I hate minorities.

[–] Blakey@hexbear.net 2 points 4 days ago

those disgusting minorities sending their evil brainwaves to make you hallucinate a scary dog, I now hate DEI too

[–] Bobson_Dugnutt@hexbear.net 19 points 5 days ago

yells-at-cloud My Pokemon flag only has 151 stars, I'll be dead in the ground before I recognize Chikorita

[–] Goblinmancer@hexbear.net 15 points 5 days ago (2 children)

For real why the fuck gamefreak decided to drop mega evolutions after gen 6 literally the most marketable and exciting "gimmick" and they drop it for ten billion other gimmicks?

Doesnt even make sense from a souless money company perspective reallt.

[–] Frivolous_Beatnik@hexbear.net 14 points 5 days ago

But what if instead of having this cool new design they can turn into, they just got big? Or had scary red eyes?

[–] lorty@lemmygrad.ml 7 points 5 days ago

Because by rotating the cool new thing every game, they can make it feel "fresh" and special when it comes back.

[–] Evilsandwichman@hexbear.net 15 points 5 days ago

No no, he's on to something; I personally know someone with a PhD in imagining Pokémon monsters who got passed up for someone from a minority who only had like a bachelor's degree....in imagining Pokémon monsters

Can we talk about all future paradox pokemon being dumb robots and how this optimism shows an ideological shift compared to gen 1 whose over 30 poison types signified a cynicism towards modernity that is now gone.

[–] lorty@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 5 days ago

I know it is a joke post but the ridiculous amount of poison types in gen 1 has nothing to do with cynism.

"DEI Dragonite" is funny though lol

[–] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 10 points 5 days ago

These are all the same people in grade school who would call you a loser for liking Pokemon and not Call of Duty.

Can’t the bros just stick to Call of Duty and leave actual gamers alone?

[–] Evilsandwichman@hexbear.net 9 points 5 days ago

So they believe DEI is holding back people with a talent for.....imagining?
