Welcome to c/news! We aim to foster a book-club type environment for discussion and critical analysis of the news. Our policy objectives are:

We ask community members to appreciate the uncertainty inherent in critical analysis of current events, the need to constantly learn, and take part in the community with humility. None of us are the One True Leftist, not even you, the reader.

Newcomm and Newsmega Rules:

The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.

  1. Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

  2. Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.

  3. Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.

  4. Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.

  5. Archive sites: We highly encourage use of non-paywalled archive sites (i.e. archive.is, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org) so that links are widely accessible to the community and so that reactionary sources don’t derive data/ad revenue from Hexbear users. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.

  6. Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.

  7. American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.

  8. Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.

  9. AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.

Low energy veins. Very sad. I said look at those veins. So we looked. They didn't look too good folks.

[–] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 61 points 9 months ago (2 children)

I wonder what far more serious health issue(s) he really has.

[–] Adkml@hexbear.net 63 points 9 months ago (2 children)

Seriously for them to come out and say this unprompted shit has got to be really bad.

Or they're going with "how despicable do you have to be to harass a sick old man about the epstein files" which admittedly would be about their third or fourth wildest swing

[–] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 28 points 9 months ago

In my mind's eye I see Trump and his doctor. He's demanding his doctor give him a bullet point list of "options" to choose from. The list comes out and Trump points at "chronic venous insufficiency" and says "What's that?" Technical language isn't great misdirection but it is far better than a word with "disease" in it like kidney disease or heart disease.

The most common cause of CVI is deep vein thrombosis.

[–] Biddles@hexbear.net 20 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Which would explain the swollen feet

deep vein thrombosis

How bad is that?

[–] mkultrawide@hexbear.net 17 points 9 months ago (1 children)

It's a blood clot in one of the deep veins, usually in the leg. If it's caught in time and treated, it's like a 85%-90%+ survival rate. If the clot comes loose and he has a pulmonary embolism, it's 50/50.

[–] cinnaa42@hexbear.net 17 points 9 months ago

it means a blood clot in your leg vein essentially

I want to use this post to highlight that the president has the best doctors in the world looking after him. In the midst of all this, the very same president is taking away your healthcare. In bad country, yada yada yeonmi-park

In 2017, the Washington Post spotlighted a book by Trump campaign advisor Corey Lewandowski and former aide David Bossie. The authors detailed a go-to Trump dinner of two Big Macs, two Filet-O-Fish sandwiches and a chocolate malt. What would Trump wash that down with? At the time, the Washington Post — now owned by one of the world's richest people, billionaire Jeff Bezos — said in a day Trump drank up to 12 cans of Diet Coke. Trump reports that he does not drink alcohol, coffee or tea. He also snacks frequently on Oreos, the report said.

I have to wonder what medical advances science has made just from keeping this man alive.

Also I just can't not share this:

cw description of carnism + other food crimes

Senecal said Trump likes steak, but he likes it well-done, overcooked even, with ketchup.

“He liked his meat well-done and he’d say, ‘No garbage with it,’” Senecal told the Palm Beach Post in 2016. By “garbage,” Senecal said he knew Trump meant no garnish, relishes or vegetables.

Prognosis

CVI is not a benign disorder and, with its progression, can lead to morbidity. Venous ulcers are common and very difficult to treat. Chronic venous ulcers are painful and debilitating. Even with treatment, recurrences are common if venous hypertension persists. Nearly 60% develop phlebitis which often progresses to deep vein thrombosis in more than 50% of patients. The venous insufficiency can also lead to severe hemorrhage. Surgery for CVI remains unsatisfactory despite the availability of numerous procedures.

Get off of the motherfucking lathe!

[–] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 18 points 9 months ago

What's worse is liberals will think Vance is """presidential""" and "can reach across the aisle," so they'll completely rehabilitate his image. He'll end up winning reelection by a landslide.

[–] Dessa@hexbear.net 15 points 9 months ago

Musk is foreign born, thus not eligible for office of VP.

This assumes that they feel like following the law, which is hardly a given these days

Known as old-man-sits-on-his-ass-all-day disease in the vernacular.

I'm sure Trump and his spawn will soon be asking for donations to the Trump Chronic Venous Insufficiency Foundation (except in NY where they are banned from running a charity).
