[–] blame@hexbear.net 20 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

the us has like 6 holidays, chill out donald

[–] D61@hexbear.net 5 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

Probably a quiet way to attack all the federal holidays directly affecting federal employees.

Oh yeah... and the racism of it being Junteenth.

[–] Dessa@hexbear.net 24 points 11 hours ago (4 children)

Cancelling holidays is incredibly risky behavior. This has played parts in past revolutions.

[–] D61@hexbear.net 7 points 4 hours ago

[–] sgtlion@hexbear.net 5 points 8 hours ago

Cromwell trying to cancel Christmas was basically his worst move

[–] CTHlurker@hexbear.net 10 points 10 hours ago

When our SocDem-junta decided to cancel a 400 year old holiday, our incredibly cucked unions are began talking like Rosa Luxemberg for like 3 days. It was one of the strangest things I've ever seen, even if they ultimately backed down because the SocDems promised to let them be more racist against poles and romanians.

[–] SoyViking@hexbear.net 18 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

In my country the government recently abolished a holiday in order to get more money to fund more military so they could fight Russia.

It was a huge success. Workers have been extatic about getting to work a day more instead of relaxing. The popularity of the government has skyrocketed ever since.

[–] MohammedTheCommunistPalestinian@hexbear.net 2 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Please tell me This is sarcasm

[–] SoyViking@hexbear.net 2 points 1 hour ago

It is. People absolutely hated it.

[–] vovchik_ilich@hexbear.net 8 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Didn't you also get a rise to 70 years old in retirement age?

[–] SoyViking@hexbear.net 15 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Yes we did. People were dancing in the streets and celebrating when they got the news that they would get to spend more of their old age at work and less of it with their grandchildren.

[–] vovchik_ilich@hexbear.net 12 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Europe deserves to burn ngl

[–] SoyViking@hexbear.net 11 points 9 hours ago

Don't worry, our leaders are working tirelessly to make it happen

[–] Assian_Candor@hexbear.net 85 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Interesting he's mad on Juneteenth wonder why that could be

[–] PorkrollPosadist@hexbear.net 47 points 14 hours ago

Surely just a coincidence blob-no-thoughts

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 6 points 9 hours ago

we should have more paid days off regardless but if they really want i'm sure we'd all take as many extra days of double-pay as they want to add.

[–] DengistDonnieDarko@hexbear.net 16 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

reminds me of when he was talking in front of coal miners recently and said something like "look at these guys, all they do is mine coal, they love it, if we stop mining coal what will they do with themselves"

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 6 points 9 hours ago (2 children)

he wasn't that wrong. a bunch of those fuckers reject any offer of retraining and definitely didn't want to learn to code. fucking americans make their jobs their identity and if you say coal is bad that makes them bad.

[–] 666@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 3 hours ago

reject any offer of retraining and definitely didn’t want to learn to code.

Because the idea of having 30-40 year old blue-collar men from Appalachia being asked to suddenly learn how to deeply and intimately use a computer while learning an entirely new language form is about the same as expecting them to learn Chinese and be foreign exchange traders. Retraining would make sense in other similar fields. Other forms of mining/extraction or another blue-collar trade.

On top of that, what would be the point in training them in code? So they can have their skill-set entirely useless in 2-3 years when AI starts doing the jobs for them?

[–] D61@hexbear.net 4 points 4 hours ago

reject any offer of retraining and definitely didn't want to learn to code..

History kinda proved them right though.

Retraining to what jobs? Where?

[–] thefluffiest@feddit.nl 13 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Apparently the children really are yearning for the mines

[–] purpleworm@hexbear.net 3 points 6 hours ago

Even the adults cannot resist its siren song for even a day, it turns out

[–] micnd90@hexbear.net 17 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago) (2 children)

Pretty sure just in March/April alone in Denmark we have Skærtorsdag (Thursday before Easter), Langfredag (Good Friday), then Anden påskedag (Monday after Easter), Kristi himmelfartsdag (Ascension day), birthday of Queen Margaret (April 16th), and International Workers Day (May 1st) as paid holidays

[–] Mardoniush@hexbear.net 23 points 12 hours ago

Funs fact, in the anglosphere Labour Day is on all different days (often celebrating something like the 8 hour day) because our governments were so shit scared of Communism they wouldn't dare make it May 1

[–] SoyViking@hexbear.net 7 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

The queen's birthday is not a holiday. May 1st is not a public holiday but in some collective agreements you get half the day off.

[–] CTHlurker@hexbear.net 3 points 6 hours ago

Quite a lot of childcare places have May 1st as a holiday, which means that it's more like an unofficial holiday, especially among white collar workers who just "work from home" (like I did at my previous job) while they spend time with their kids, whom they can't drop off anywhere, because most places are closed.

Did I ever mention that I fucking love how childcare in Denmark is structured?

[–] quarrk@hexbear.net 14 points 12 hours ago

This is actually one of Trump’s worst takes, and that says a lot

[–] Evilsandwichman@hexbear.net 62 points 16 hours ago (5 children)

Everyone here (or maybe it was Hasan, I can't remember) always says not to think of the republican working class as just a bunch of braindead morons, just people who are misguided; Well this is the ultimate test on whether they really are stupid or not.

No the western working class is braindead morons

[–] Cimbazarov@hexbear.net 29 points 15 hours ago (4 children)

I mean alot of them are petty bourgeois small business owner tyrants and might even work during holidays so they probably want everyone at their level

I was thinking of the grind culture fucks who brag about working 294 hours a week, but even they would refrain from supporting holiday cuts. Can’t think of anyone in the workplace who wants be known as that guy

I will lose it if this clown takes my holidays

[–] CthulhusIntern@hexbear.net 31 points 14 hours ago

For people who love to talk about how Republicans ended slavery, Republicans sure seem to hate Juneteenth...

[–] DerRedMax@hexbear.net 44 points 15 hours ago (5 children)

He’s saying this on Juneteenth because IDK he couldn’t pick up a book of stamps or something. When it’s Fourth of July he’ll be all like “the hard working Americans earned this holiday.” It’s not so much the racism as it is “What do you mean I can’t buy stamps on a Wednesday, this is America!”

[–] LaughingLion@hexbear.net 59 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

I lived in rural Tennessee when I was a child in the 90s. On MLK day the bank, THE BANK, changed their sign to read, "WE DON'T NEED ANOTHER N_R HOLIDAY". They spelled it out fully. Not a digital sign. They did the lettering one by one.

This tweet has the same vibe.

Oh, and if anyone wants to know it was Waynesboro. Fuck that town.

[–] grendahlgrendahlgen@hexbear.net 22 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Virginia changed it to Lee/Jackson/King Day, to honor Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson

My wife gets "confederate heroes day" off in Texas every January 19.

[–] Lussy@hexbear.net 26 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago) (1 children)

Oh…I didn’t even think of the racist angle, I thought it was a vile attack on the working class

[–] SerLava@hexbear.net 26 points 15 hours ago

definitely both

I just hate that people buy the narrative that we need to penny pinch to the point where you cant take a day off otherwise the American economy is going to explode. Pretty sure if 100% of the bullshit jobs went away and people got paid the same as if they had them, our economy wouldnt be any different

leader of only country with 0 federally mandated holidays: we have too many holidays

trump is gonna make us tip our boss for the privilege of “providing us with a job” bro 😭 that’s why he said no taxes on tips

[–] ShimmeringKoi@hexbear.net 17 points 13 hours ago

I read When Serfs Stood Up In Tbet recently, and found it to be a dark omen. Reading the descriptions of the omnipresent environment of predation and the myriad ways people were exploited, has me wondering when they'll bust out the subscription fees for every flower pot.

[–] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 26 points 15 hours ago

Actually, I support a 4 day work week with 25 days annual leave.

I’m having a hard time getting a permanent job. Y’all need to save some work for the rest of us goku-halal
