Iran and Israel have struck each other many times over the last few days. There has been a general focus on military facilities and headquarters by both sides, though Israel has also struck oil facilities, civilian structures and hospitals, and in return for this, Iran has struck major scientific centers and the Haifa oil facilities.

Israel appears to have three main aims. First, to collapse the Iranian state, either through shock and breakdown by killing enough senior officials, or via some sort of internal military coup. Second, to try and destroy Iranian nuclear sites and underground missile cities, or at least to paralyze them long enough to achieve the first and third goals. And third, to bring the US into a direct conflict with Iran. This is because the US better equipped to fight them than Israel is (though victory would still not be guaranteed depending on what Iran chooses to do).

Iranian nuclear facilities are hidden deep underground (800 meters), far beyond the depth range of even the most powerful bunker busters (~70 meters or so), and built such that the visible ground entrances are horizontally far away in an unknown direction from the actual underground chambers. Only an extremely competent full-scale American bombing force all simultaneously using multiple of the most powerful conventional (perhaps even nuclear) bunker busters could even hypothetically hope to breach them (and we have seen how, in practice, American bunker busters have largely failed to impair or deter Ansarallah). There are several analysts on both sides who have concluded that it is entirely impossible to physically prevent Iran from building nukes.

I fully expect the US to join the war. I believe the current ambiguity is a deliberate invention of the US while they work to move their military assets into position, and as soon as they are ready, the US will start bombing Iran. After that, Iran's leadership must - if they haven't already - harden their hearts, and strike back with no fear, or risk following the path of Libya, Syria, and Iraq, either into either surrender, occupation, or annihilation. Every day where they do not possess a nuke is a day where lives are being lost and cities are being bombed.

Instead of war with Iran, Trump posts about two new flag poles that will be installed

a-little-trolling : "It is my Great Honor to announce that I will be putting up two beautiful Flag Poles on both sides of the White House, North and South Lawns. It is a GIFT from me of something which was always missing from this magnificent place. The digging and placement of the poles will begin at 7:30 A.M. EST, tomorrow morning. Flags will be raised at approximately 11 A.M. EST. These are the most magnificent poles made - They are tall, tapered, rust proof, rope inside the pole, and of the highest quality. Hopefully, they will proudly stand at both sides of the White House for many years to come!"

It's crazy how much following the news around modern warfare is akin to divination. We all draw different conclusions from these kind of hazy rumours and images and try to predict the future. Maybe Iran is closing the strait as a sort of preemptive strike against imminent American involvement? Maybe Israel struck some Iranian tankers? We've really got no idea.

🇺🇸🇮🇷| Satellite images show US evacuated all of its aircrafts from the Al-Udeid airbase in Qatar.

This includes jets from the US, UK and Qatar. This could mean that the US is preparing for attacks against Iran, just like how they evacuated their diplomatic staff from Iraq the night before Israel’s attack on Iran

I do think that from a strategic balance, the fact that the US is willing to join so soon does say that the balance is against Israel right now.

There is absolutely no reason for the US to put american lives on the line in Iran and the complete MENA region if they thought that israel was doing a sufficiently good job against Iran on their own.

Israeli soldier killed, three seriously wounded in southern Gaza

Israel’s military has confirmed that one soldier has been killed and three seriously injured in the southern Gaza Strip.

The military identified the deceased as a 20-year-old sergeant in Israel’s Golani Brigade’s 12th battalion, while the three “seriously injured” soldiers were also from the same unit. All three have been evacuated from the Palestinian territory.

Earlier on Monday, the Israeli military reported than a 28-year-old captain from the Golani Brigade’s engineering battalion was also killed in southern Gaza.

To all the doomerism especially regarding the involvement of China and Russia:

The USSR had a non-aggression pact with Nazi Germany and only officially started fighting the Wermarcht when operation Barbarossa began. Stalin almost entirely refused to provide any help to Korea and said he was prepared for the peninsula to be occupied by the US. Soviet soldiers didn't fight in Vietnam, soviet soldiers didn't fight in Angola, soviet soldiers didn't fight in Cuba. I understand that it is difficult and frustrating to see the escalation against Iran and the inaction from Russia and China while we feel powerless in this conflict, but the doom and gloom in this space is not helping anyone.

Speaking of hesitation, the US waited 15 years of sanctions against Syria to get their win, with many hesitations and flip-flops (Obama first considered treating Syria like Libya but then changed his mind). The same applies to Iran. The sanctions, isolation, and infiltration goes back for decades. This bizarre idea that "we need to be bold like the fascists" is disconnected from reality. Stop idealizing the fascists as omnipotent and omniscient. The USA is at its weakest position since at least 100 years.

Putin is not an anti-imperialist hero, history dragged him in this camp, he is simply in this coalition because of his own interests. China is a country that would prefer their people live in peace and prosperity and not get dragged into a hot war that could literally kill hundreds of millions of them. Especially for people in the west: Neither China nor Russia are here to fix the western left's failures. It's western governments funding the genocidal fascist regime. What are we doing here to stop that?

History will not end until humanity ends, the high capital experienced from the "end of history" and the "victory" against communism, a struggle that capital, imperialism, and fascism fought while at its peak for 70 long years with endless genocide and destruction, didn't even last 20 years as the 2008 crisis already started the struggle that is reaching a violent peak today. Humans will continue to fight, against setbacks or from positions of strength.

We should do what we can however insignificant to help in this struggle and be ready to fight for our side.

If I'm running a dysfunctional threatened African or Asian state now, what would the point of being allied to China or Russia? Iran is probably the 3rd most valuable state in the anti-Western camp after China and Russia, and now they're actively suffering in a existential war and the Russians and the Chinese are just allowing Iran to get ran over while having phone conversations with Netanyahu about mutual trade. They let Syria fall while Russia was too busy elsewhere, they didn't lift a finger to help Armenia, and now they're just watching Iran fight alone. They're probably the shittiest military allies you can have, there's literally 0% chance that they pull off something like Desert Storm to help you out. Russia helped out in Syria, but they're basically too busy with their own stuff, but China's anti-interventionist stance is actively harmful right now.

A republican representative named Thomas Massie said of Trump's strike on Iran...

This is not Constitutional.

Trump is surely going to primary the guy. And Trump's response is a ~320 word whiney wall of text so I created paragraphs for the as many as two of you (three - can I dream?) that will read it.

SpoilerCongressman Thomas Massie of Kentucky is not MAGA, even though he likes to say he is. Actually, MAGA doesn’t want him, doesn’t know him, and doesn’t respect him. He is a negative force who almost always Votes “NO,” no matter how good something may be. He’s a simple minded “grandstander” who thinks it’s good politics for Iran to have the highest level Nuclear weapon, while at the same time yelling “DEATH TO AMERICA” at every chance they get.

Iran has killed and maimed thousands of Americans, and even took over the American Embassy in Tehran under the Carter Administration. We had a spectacular military success yesterday, taking the “bomb” right out of their hands (and they would use it if they could!) but, as usual, and despite all of the praise and accolades received, this “lightweight” Congressman is against what was so brilliantly achieved last night in Iran.

Massie is weak, ineffective, and votes “NO” on virtually everything put before him (Rand Paul, Jr.), no matter how good something may be. He is disrespectful to our great military, and all that they stand for, not even acknowledging their brilliance and bravery in yesterday’s attack, which was a total and complete WIN. Massie should drop his fake act and start putting America First, but he doesn’t know how to get there — he doesn’t have a clue!

He’ll undoubtedly vote against the Great, Big, Beautiful Bill, even though non-passage means a 68% Tax Increase for everybody, and many things far worse than that. MAGA should drop this pathetic LOSER, Tom Massie, like the plague! The good news is that we will have a wonderful American Patriot running against him in the Republican Primary, and I’ll be out in Kentucky campaigning really hard. MAGA is not about lazy, grandstanding, nonproductive politicians, of which Thomas Massie is definitely one.

Thank you to our incredible military for the AMAZING job they did last night. It was really SPECIAL!!! MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN.

---

Edit 1

A Bluesky comment said that Massie votes with Trump 96% of the time.

22 American military tankers have landed at airfields across Europe after simultaneously leaving the U.S. late last night, while three have continued directly towards the Middle East.

•2 in Aviano Air Base, Italy

•11 in Morón Air Base, Spain

•4 in Ramstein Air Base, Germany

•4 in Prestwick, Occupied Scotland

•1 in Tallin, Estonia

~~Will update when we find out where exactly the three still en route to the Middle East land.~~ Remaining three tankers are all following the same flight path over the Aegean Sea toward Crete with no signs of making a descent. I assume we will lose the ability to track these flights in the coming hour or so.

Frankly, I have not seen a more clear sign that a country is preparing to enter a conflict since Russia amassing troops nearish Ukraine pre-SMO. All tankers departed from the United States at nearly the same exact time Sunday night, which is relatively unusual unless an order was issued.

Staging for a potential B-2 Spirit stealth bomber strike on the Fordow underground nuclear facility? Two potential developments in this regard.

As I've said many times, my theory is that if the B-2s do strike Fordow, they'll fly out from Whiteman and over the Pacific and Australia to do so, not over the Atlantic as many suggest. They might also be forward deployed to Diego Garcia as a final public signalling towards Iran. There have been two developments in the last two hours to suggest that the assets for such a plan are being put in place. Mid air refueling aircraft have been moved to California and over the Pacific, and Australia has announced the closure of it's embassy in Tehran.

Two C-17 Globemaster transport in and out of Whiteman, one heading west now.

Trump weighing use of US bomb on Iranian nuclear facility, NYT says

The US president is deliberating whether to enter the conflict with Iran to bomb its nuclear enrichment facility at Fordo, according to The New York Times.

The facility can only be reached using the US’s biggest “bunker buster” bomb, the Massive Ordnance Penetrator, using American B-2 bombers, according to The Times.

“If he decides to go ahead, the United States will become a direct participant in a new conflict in the Middle East, taking on Iran in exactly the kind of war Mr. Trump has sworn, in two campaigns, he would avoid,” reporters David E Sanger and Jonathan Swan write.

Notably, the piece is tagged under “analysis” instead of news, and does not cite a source or sources for its contention that such a strike is under consideration.

One potential hypothesis, highly unlikely but non zero possibility: could Israel be using "nuclear blackmail" against the United States?

Sounds wild and highly unrealistic, but here me out. We know that Israel cannot destroy or even damage Fordow with conventional weapons, but Israel could have low yield tactical nuclear weapons with an Earth Penetrating Warhead (EPW). Israel also says that they have their "own plan" to deal with Fordow. What if Israel's "own plan" is to use nuclear EPWs on Fordow, and Israel is telling the US that if they don't send in the B-2s with the conventional GBU-57 MOP bunker buster to bomb Fordow, that Israel will use nuclear EPWs on Fordow. A form of "nuclear blackmail". The Zionists might just be mad enough to pull something like this.

This is going to morph into another endless attrition conflict, isn't it? WWIII is shaping up to be the ultimate showdown of industrial capacity vs industrial capacity.

I guess endless conflicts that burn through a lot of equipment as quickly as possible to open up space for more buying is the logical endpoint of a for-profit military force. The good news is that Marxism is the framework to pull this kind of beast by it's leash.
