Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

Dictators deserve death.

[–] F_OFF_Reddit@lemmy.world 4 points 36 minutes ago

Well so far they've been holding signs in congress... that's a very effective way in fact I remember the first pustch attempted by Hitler was entirely halted by mild mannered people holding signs.

[–] Randelung@lemmy.world 4 points 42 minutes ago

Please don't pawn this off to "democrats", some vague entity not connected to yourselves. It's each and every resident's duty to resist and fight back. Some politicians can't do anything when operating within the laws the fascists explicitly skirt.

[–] FenderStratocaster@lemmy.world 1 points 18 minutes ago

Seeing the negative and know-it-all comments on this thread is depressing. Maybe some of you need to just go back to pondering which Linux distribution to use and leave the hopium posts for the optimists.

There is no logic in threatening prosecution for attempting a dictatorship.

Those who attempt try to succeed. There is no prosecution in a successful dictatorship.

[–] febra@lemmy.world 14 points 2 hours ago

If this is the mentality you're gonna approach this situation with, you're cooked. The demented orange asshole is already building a dictatorship and democrats barely give a shit. "Fearing the consequences" isn't something they do because there are no consequences as we've seen multiple times. You gotta make them fear for their lives. And you gotta give people a real alternative to the oligarchy that is the US.

Fund wfh, Dems are pathetic and compromised.

Make sure to buy guns

We all do, not just those in the office

[–] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 4 points 1 hour ago

Especially since those in office don't seem particularly interested.

A man rubs a lamp and a genie comes out and says, "I will grant you one wish, anything you ask for, whatever you can imagine, your wish is my command."

The man shouts, "I want a dragon!"

The genies responds, "I'm sorry, but a dragon is just too much, it's just not possible for that to exist. Can you think of something else?"

The man thinks for a minute and says, "Well, in that case, I guess I wish for the rich and powerful to face significant legal consequences within the existing system for the harm they do to regular people."

The genie sighs and says, "What color did you want that dragon?"

[–] SabinStargem@lemmy.today 4 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Purple. Just offer it some Dragon Treasure gems and ask it nicely to take care of an orange pig.

[–] Objection@lemmy.ml 8 points 3 hours ago

Purple is a fine color to use while employing alternative methods of holding people accountable when they control the courts and the senate

[–] suckmykong@lemmy.cafe 8 points 3 hours ago

Yeah exactly. Just find one today and rip his eyes off. I don't care if it's your dad.

Sadly Democrats couldn't make Republicans fear a Lovecraftian Horror.

[–] VindictiveJudge@lemmy.world 4 points 5 hours ago

So, we should summon a Lovecraftian Horror?

[–] lilsolar@sh.itjust.works 5 points 5 hours ago

I'm sure a pink shirt and a flag will do the trick!

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 24 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Shoulda done that, I dunno…a decade ago?

[–] tigeruppercut@lemmy.zip 12 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Wasn't the patriot act only opposed by like 1 senator? Our govt has long either supported or sympathized with authoritarians

[–] futatorius@lemm.ee 6 points 1 hour ago

Any vote with that kind of bipartisan support is a sure sign the ruling class are fucking us over.

Incidentally, that near-unanimous vote came soon after Senators and Congresspeople had been receiving letters with anthrax in them. And that crime has never been solved. (Hint: it was probably instigated by Cheney).

[–] toadjones79@lemm.ee 10 points 7 hours ago (4 children)

It's going to be fun watching all of these traitors stand trials for their crimes.

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 3 points 2 hours ago

I can see progressives and muslims eventually hauled before a "court", but dems or republicans? hard to imagine.

[–] DrDickHandler@lemmy.world 5 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Very cute fantasy of yours. Will never happen.

[–] futatorius@lemm.ee 0 points 1 hour ago

I'm always amused to see "never" in political discussions.

If the tide turns, it'll happen fast.
