His credit card was a fraud, his last festival was a fraud, he has been convicted of fraud.

You would have to be a world class dumbass to fall for this

[-] Alexstarfire@lemmy.world 31 points 3 months ago

Looks at Trump supporters. Plenty of dumbasses out there.

[-] inb4_FoundTheVegan@lemmy.world 26 points 3 months ago

Documentaries don't generally get sequels, but here's hoping enough dumbasses buy in so Netflix/Hulu can do another set.

[-] Brkdncr@lemmy.world 5 points 3 months ago

So bad it got two documentaries at the same time. Legend.

[-] floofloof@lemmy.ca 23 points 3 months ago

But it sounds so legit...

After being released last year, McFarland began planning a second incarnation of Fyre festival, which he said he devised during a stint in solitary confinement. He told his followers on social media: “This is everything I’ve been working towards. Let’s fucking go.”

[-] snooggums@midwest.social 23 points 3 months ago

He has followers.

Just, wow.

[-] ms_lane@lemmy.world 11 points 3 months ago

I wonder if the chaos and turmoil is part of the whole shtick this time? Like it's an art piece that you're participating in?

[-] Taako_Tuesday@lemmy.ca 6 points 3 months ago

I'm sure that's part of it. I think also the last Fyre festival became such a sensation that people actually did wish they had gone just to be able to say they were there. For people with lots of money and nothing better to do, maybe thats all that matters

[-] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 3 months ago

Fraud: not just for politicians! Whee.

[-] Embargo@lemm.ee 42 points 3 months ago

The guy that said he was coerced to suck a dick for water is back onboard too.

[-] 474D@lemmy.world 20 points 3 months ago

He was never coerced, that dude was just about that life. He straight up volunteered that information in the documentary.

[-] Embargo@lemm.ee 0 points 3 months ago

When you look at the power dynamic and situation though he was for sure. The amount of power Billy had over him was enough and remember how much work this guy had put in by then. For him to be solely responsible for it falling apart due to limited water supply would be an immeasurable level of pressure. Saying he's "just about that life" comes across a bit homophobic tbh. He literally said he has never done something like that and in the end, didn't need to anyway.

[-] evidences@lemmy.world 15 points 3 months ago

I just looked and Ja Rule apparently isn't on board this time.

[-] BruceTwarzen@lemm.ee 5 points 3 months ago

No ja is a no for me

[-] jagermo@feddit.org 33 points 3 months ago

Watching that shitshow unfold live was one of my top moments of old reddit / twitter.

[-] Bbbbbbbbbbb@lemmy.world 18 points 3 months ago

Mine was the feeling of pride and accomplishment after watching reddit gangbang an EA representative get down voted into oblivion

[-] jagermo@feddit.org 9 points 3 months ago

Haha, "sense of accomplishment".

[-] xmunk@sh.itjust.works 22 points 3 months ago

Why would you ever relaunch it, though?

[-] assembly@lemmy.world 30 points 3 months ago

How does Trump have supporters? There are nutters everywhere and more than enough to participate in something like this since you know this fraudster will get plenty of press for the event.

[-] whostosay@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

The only reason this would make sense to do is if the penalty of fraud is outweighed by the benefit.

[-] Leeks@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago
[-] bcgm3@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

Those sweet royalties from the Netflix exposé docs, maybe.

[-] ATDA@lemmy.world 21 points 3 months ago

"Scandal-hit" lol

The dude straight up defrauded thousands of people. He didn't cheat on his significant other. Though he'd probably do that a lot too he seems like a very crap person.

[-] Mrkawfee@lemmy.world 21 points 3 months ago

Can't wait for the cheese sandwich.

[-] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 19 points 3 months ago

The only way he stops this is if a bunch of hipsters go there ironically to have the worst time ever.

[-] Worx@lemmynsfw.com 12 points 3 months ago

If someone ironically pays me $8000, I'm still $8000 richer

[-] ravhall@discuss.online 14 points 3 months ago

We should all go and crash it.

[-] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 6 points 3 months ago
[-] Saledovil@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 months ago

Marshmallows. Pack marshmallows. It'll catch fire on its own.

[-] ravhall@discuss.online 2 points 3 months ago

It’s always good to be prepared.

[-] ShaggySnacks@lemmy.myserv.one 11 points 3 months ago

All this tells me that it is easy to grift people with too much money.

[-] ms_lane@lemmy.world 8 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

I mean, it's one ~~banana~~ Festival, Michael. What could it cost? 8000 dollars?

[-] ruk_n_rul@monyet.cc 11 points 3 months ago

Fyrefest 2: Electric Boogaloo

[-] Badeendje@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

Can't wait for the documentary on netflix

[-] Annoyed_Crabby@monyet.cc 1 points 3 months ago

Electrycfest

[-] Lennnny@lemmy.world 11 points 3 months ago

I mean... It's kind of a good idea. Ride that 'so fucked it's cool ' wave. Can't wait to watch influencers invest yet again.

[-] ALittleSticious@lemm.ee 8 points 3 months ago

At this point it’s just scammers going after the rich. So who cares.

If you’re stupid enough to fall for it after everything that’s happened, you deserve it.

[-] BrazenSigilos@ttrpg.network 7 points 3 months ago

They'll stop beating that dead horse when it stops spitting out money

[-] symthetics@lemmy.world 5 points 3 months ago

Just waiting for the token drop 😂

[-] chuckleslord@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago

Sorry, don't give this any attention. It's a scam and everyone knows it.

[-] ChippiChappa@ani.social 2 points 3 months ago

I'd go just for the meme.
