Oh, why'd you switch? Not that world is bad, but why world of all places? :0

[–] violet08@lemmy.world 63 points 2 days ago (5 children)

honestly deleting my account was a spur of the moment thing. then i got bored cause no other platform satisfies my pseudoblogging needs like this one. i went with this instance for my new account cause it’s the biggest/most popular & it was the first one that came to mind.

[–] fenrasulfr@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago

Thank you for replying and it is great to see you back to shitposting again. It is a breath of fresh air with all the politics and tech posts.

deleting it gets rid of its posts and comments

it's all lost now

Thanks for coming back. It sucks a lot more here without your shitposting :)

What about PieFed?

[–] icelimit@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 days ago (2 children)

What's the difference between instances? I was under the impression there was no functional difference?

[–] mholiv@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Different policies and rules mostly. Lemmy.ml has a ton of weirdly pro Russia and China admins on it. Very tankie Stalinist. blahaj.zone Is really nicely queer friendly. dbzer0.com has a cool anarchist hacker culture etc.

For me the problem I have with lemmy.ml is that that if you disagree with Russia’s invasion on one news community you’ll find yourself banned from the Linux community.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I have found blahaj to be... Exclusionary in the usual lgtqa ways.

[–] andros_rex@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Man, if you feel excluded by shitposters on a website, imagine how excluded you would feel being lgbtqa in a country where 40% of people think you are an evil disgusting degenerate who will go to hell forever.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Don't have to imagine dude.

Now imagine living somewhere where 75%of people belong to the same damn cult and about half of people want to kill you because your existence disproves their culty religion.

[–] mholiv@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yup! They work really hard to create a strong queer space. That means they work hard to exclude bigotry and the like, even in its micro aggression form.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 0 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Which explains why they hate bi men, nonbinary folk and intersex people so persistently. Not queer enough for y'all. Hence why I left them out of the acronym.

[–] mholiv@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

I’m sorry. I’m not on blahaj.

Bigotry towards bi men and non-binary folk seems very much not like them.

Are you a bi man or non-binary person? If so I would be interested hearing what sort of discrimination you faced at blahaj. I recommend them quite a bit but would rather not if they are hateful in that way.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

First, do I have to be a bi man or nonbinary to care about bigotry toward them?

[–] mholiv@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

No, but I’ve seen my fair share of concern trolling.

I am neither a bi man nor nonbinary and care, but I value my time.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Okay, so a fair amount of what I've seen is bi erasure, and as far as nonbinary bigotry, it's pretty similar. Nonbinary folk don't truly exist, whatever that means, and are either male or female kind of how bisexual folk are whatever their current relationship is. The women's stuff community on blahaj professes to be Trans and nonbinary inclusive but if you are not explicitly female they will harass you with a candy coated "fuck off, you are not female enough". Not really seen much on else blahaj but have from blahaj users.

Complete AOL blast bullshit, but I figured it wouldn't take Nazis long to take over blahaj. It's the sort of thing they'd find funny.

[–] Jayjader@jlai.lu 2 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Counterexample of one, but I've commented in womensstuff before as a genderfluid person and have not been asked to leave the space.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 0 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago)

i've commented several times, sometimes explicitly saying i'm nonbinary, and their sexual harrassment bot repeatedly pings me. I'm now banned there because i lost my temper and said fuck off to the bot. after being sexually harassed by the bot. which, you know, is a normal response to being sexually harassed, but the instance admins like their premeditated sexual harassment bot, so the ban stands.

i just want to block the community, but until i'm unbanned.

[–] mholiv@lemmy.world 2 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

That sounds not so nice. Is there an example out there or the like?

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 0 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

go hang out with them and experience it yourself. i'm not digging through my bullshit,

[–] mholiv@lemmy.world 3 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago) (1 children)

I do hang out with them a lot. A lot of my favorite communities are there. I see no Nazi tolerance at all there let alone “taking over” I also see none of this bigotry that you say is there. Contrarily, I see an active anti bigotry set of rules policies and guidelines in general. In the community culture I also see a strong belief in the stated values.

I am willing to change my views on the instance but what you claim, I am just not seeing.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 0 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

so like, all i can say is I've had conversations with my WASP mother about ableism. she's an ableist fuck. she does not see it anywhere. trying to get her to see why putting the food that a slightest bit of cross-contamination will put me in the hospital right the fuck next to my dinner plate is not a microaggression but is in fact a macroaggression took years. Like, a fucking decade and we finally had to take it to a sparring ring and formally fight it out (we both have martial arts training but had until then never sparred each other. at the time i was skin, bones, and she had 70 pounds on me but i had a two belt advantage. healthy weight i have a 20 pound advantage. we agreed to throw real punches and kicks, we wore pads, went to 10 and i won by 5 points) and that was the only way i could get her to stop trying to poison me.

My point is: if it's not a bigotry that affects you directly, most people miss it entirely. Very very few people are sensitive to bigotry as a theme.

[–] mholiv@lemmy.world 1 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

I understand. And I can see the ableism examples that you put forward.

Do you have any example of the Nazi takeover of blahaj? Or that they are bigoted towards bi men or non binary people? Like I want to give you the benefit of the doubt here, but I just see the opposite of what you are claiming.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 1 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

like i said, i'm not here to dig through my old posts and find more bigotry. i'm trying to relax after nearly dying two months ago. last month. trying to forget.

[–] mholiv@lemmy.world 1 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago)

Hey man I get it. But at this point I don’t think there is any reason to think blahaj as an instance is bigoted in any way, and there is every reason to think they are quite the opposite.

I hope you feel better soon. Best we end this chat to reduce trauma and increase healing.

[–] icelimit@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That explains why people have been hostile to me by default even though I presented a balanced front (in my eyes)

[–] mholiv@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Yahhhhh. It’s a rough situation to be a non tankie on a tankie instance.

The issue is that a lot? a majority? a great majority? of users there have very “out there” opinions and more and more of them are trying to be more subtle about it.

Avg .ml user: Long winded post about why war is bad

Avg responder: I agree war should be avoided for the harm it causes.

Avg .ml user: Therefore we all must support Russia against the imperialist Ukrainians!

Avg responder: Russia started the war. Why should we support them?

Avg .ml user: Because NATO forced Russia to invade. In reality it was NATOs fault!

Avg responder: I wasted my time here. No point in arguing.

The average non .ml user has been through this or seen this enough to be cautious of seemingly reasonable balanced arguments from .ml users.

I totally get staying, but personally if I woke up and my account was on .ml I would move.

[–] Krauerking@lemy.lol 2 points 1 day ago

Ugh. This is still the issue with Lemmy, confusing instances, somewhat random federations, strong cultural differences.

I used to like my instance but now it is done.

Just constantly a mess to be social here.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

some admins have their heads further up their asses. on world you're less likely to interact with them

[–] Grail@multiverse.soulism.net 2 points 2 days ago (2 children)

World is bad. Why world of all places?

guessI saw some people saying violet's old instance was a troll instance and that's proof she's not who she says she is. Weird but okay. I guess world is the most normal instance, and the intent is to dispel those accusations.

[–] GreenShimada@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

Aren't we all just trolling ourselves, at some level?

I used to have an account on Today and it gets janky every once in a while and just goes down for an hour or two. I literally did the same.

[–] Illecors@lemmy.cafe 1 points 1 day ago

What was the old instance?
