Yeah, and back then, he had hair and hadn't abused anabolic steroids so was like 40% of the size he is today.

[–] Empricorn@feddit.nl 18 points 2 years ago

No, I think he was juicing even before that.

Someone should do an expose on all these people and talk about who they were and what they did before going full MAGA.

Then he lost all respect people had for him

[–] ech@lemm.ee 17 points 2 years ago (3 children)

People had respect for the Fear Factor guy?

[–] KIM_JONG_JUICEBOX@lemmy.ml 12 points 2 years ago (2 children)

He was kind of funny on the show News Radio before even that. That was a good show with a lot of good actors but seems like a lot of people never heard of it.

I liked him as a comedian early on. Was a huge early jre podcast fan. But he lost me circa 2015/16. He started believing he was actually smart. His stand-up has been awful for a long long time now. To say nothing of his political influence.

He also was a moronic maintenance man for a radio station.

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 46 points 2 years ago

RIP Phil Hartman & Fuck Andy Dick

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 43 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Trying to explain News Radio to a Zoomer and they just keep waving a can of pepper spray at me and calling for help.

[–] klemptor@startrek.website 12 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Man I miss when Joe Rogan was just the hot dumb handyman. Simpler times.

[–] PeterLossGeorgeWall@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 2 years ago (2 children)

He was all into the conspiracy theories though, even in news radio!!

[–] klemptor@startrek.website 11 points 2 years ago

Yup, and it was funny because his character was a moron that nobody took seriously.

[–] kandoh@reddthat.com 5 points 2 years ago (1 children)

That used to be more innocent before those people could find one another and begin to organize on the internet

We'll always have Chris Hemsworth

[–] KIM_JONG_JUICEBOX@lemmy.ml 11 points 2 years ago

“It’s a tv show about these people who make a podcast.”

[–] moody@lemmings.world 35 points 2 years ago (1 children)

He had people drink horse cum for a chance at some money.

[–] li10@feddit.uk 34 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Wait, you guys are getting paid?

[–] BobbyNevada@discuss.tchncs.de 11 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Well, most of them didn't get paid either...

[–] moody@lemmings.world 6 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Imagine forcing yourself to swallow like half a litre of horse cum and then not winning the last challenge and leaving with nothing.

And then it gets broadcast on TV for everyone you know to see.

[–] BobbyNevada@discuss.tchncs.de 7 points 2 years ago (5 children)

And then the cravings begin...

I was around for that era of Joe Rogan and he was an absolute dullard of a host.

[–] li10@feddit.uk 22 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Isn’t that a prerequisite for hosting these kind of shows?

Nobody wants to host those shows except for the easy pay check.

[–] MutilationWave@lemmy.world 9 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I'd toss my job and host a stupid show for that kind of money in a hot second, wouldn't you?

[–] MrVilliam@lemmy.world 14 points 2 years ago (1 children)

If this source is correct, he made about $100k per episode. For that amount of money, I would host the shit out of that dumbass show.

I actually liked the guy during that era. He was a goofy dude who just did weird stuff while giving our weird bro energy.

[–] orca@orcas.enjoying.yachts 8 points 2 years ago

Yeah he seemed pretty harmless at the time.

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 26 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

Joe Rogan has a recorded, on stage set, where he straight up says something like:

"Do not take my advice on anything. You shouldn't listen to me. I'm an idiot! I don't know shit; I just make jokes for a living."

I guess people listened and then didn't follow the above advice. 🤷🏻‍♂️

[–] ZombiFrancis@sh.itjust.works 17 points 2 years ago

That's how he lends credibility to everything that airs on his show. It is disarming enough to help the listener extend that sentiment toward the guest long enough to explain whatever lunatic theory.

And then you're listening to the guest, not Rogan so...

He's been doing the podcast since 2009.

[–] Lexam@lemmy.ca 23 points 2 years ago (7 children)

Howie Mandel had hair at one time as well.

[–] Auli@lemmy.ca 16 points 2 years ago (1 children)

And had a children's cartoon show.

[–] orca@orcas.enjoying.yachts 12 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Bobby’s World! I liked that show.

[–] Plopp@lemmy.world 9 points 2 years ago (1 children)

As did Patrick Stewart.

Just kidding.
