Found this because there's a Westoid translation account that somehow thinks that this is a dunk on China.

Only a ukraine flag pfp could have sufficient levels of delusion to think that this makes China look bad

[-] GladimirLenin@hexbear.net 38 points 4 months ago

if the original tweet had the whole parachute it would be an all time emoji

Haha these are so good. The first one that popped up was a hamster in bondage gear and a ball gag tho

[-] Wakmrow@hexbear.net 7 points 4 months ago

[-] CloutAtlas@hexbear.net 7 points 4 months ago

your post style there is great for learning

Chinese Grammar learning: Adjective + 得 很

The complement 得很 (dehěn) is used after adjectives to add intensity. It is similar to adding 很 before the adjective, the main difference being that adjective + 得很 is more informal, and adds more emphasis than just 很 + adjective.

Can we get some of these as emojis? They're great

[-] infuziSporg@hexbear.net 25 points 4 months ago

What website is this that has hanzi and pinyin together? I need this

[-] Dyno@hexbear.net 18 points 4 months ago

it looks like it was originally posted on bilibili, so idk if there's an option on the site to do that, or if it was edited in post or what

[-] blakeus12@hexbear.net 16 points 4 months ago

real. hanzi is fuckin hard

[-] ProletarianDictator@hexbear.net 6 points 4 months ago

I'm picking it up quick, but there's always enough characters I don't recognize that prevent me from reading effectively. Sucks being able to read 80% of the text and get 0% of the meaning from it

[-] CloutAtlas@hexbear.net 4 points 4 months ago

Pleco on android has an overlay that reads Chinese in apps and webpages and you can tap on a character to get the Pinyin and English translation

[-] ProletarianDictator@hexbear.net 1 points 4 months ago

oh I have Pleco. I'll have to figure out how to use that

[-] CloutAtlas@hexbear.net 3 points 4 months ago

Check out Pleco, the app has an overlay screen reader that lets you select Hanzi and comes with definitions and Pinyin

[-] blakeus12@hexbear.net 2 points 4 months ago

thanks, but i already have pleco. great recommendation though pleco fucks

[-] CyberSyndicalist@hexbear.net 24 points 4 months ago

I'm not sure I get it?

Is the original interpretation "come back to hometown as a dandelion" meant to be as in spreading in the wind?

And the misinterpretation akin to "pushing up daisies"?

[-] CloutAtlas@hexbear.net 49 points 4 months ago

He's floating back to his homeland on a parachute, like a dandelion seed on the wind. It's cute.

[-] commiewithoutorgans@hexbear.net 19 points 4 months ago

It's cool if it's about the wind spreading the seeds that float on wind! I hope that's a double meaning. I interpreted it as knowing he was going to die and become nutrients for flowers, which is cool but more sad

[-] CloutAtlas@hexbear.net 36 points 4 months ago

No, it's childlike wonder. He's floating on the wind like a dandelion seed.
