Only in America could people conceive of regular transportation infrastructure as a major legislative victory

[-] goferking0@lemmy.sdf.org 63 points 5 months ago

Is it even enough for the road maintaince? No where near enough for rail

[-] FunkyStuff@hexbear.net 48 points 5 months ago

It has little to do with the state of infrastructure nationwide, but a major bridge in Baltimore collapsed and libs wanna talk about how great transport under the Biden admin is? Or, you know, the train derailments, the planes falling off the sky, etc.

[-] chickentendrils@hexbear.net 30 points 5 months ago

The bridge hit is relevant, more to the system than Biden, but in context the import of the bridge and the commercial value of everything being shipped around the world, maybe even the criticality of some of is... Is it really too expensive to implement more to prevent ships smashing into it and closing the harbor for weeks? Apparently not, from the economy which routinely kneecaps innovation to protect monopoly.

[-] FunkyStuff@hexbear.net 21 points 5 months ago

Not to mention the bridge itself was in a pretty dire state. Not super relevant because even if it was brand new it would've been totaled regardless, but it is worth mentioning.

[-] jonne@infosec.pub 17 points 5 months ago

The Maryland government decided to allow huge ships like the one that hit the bridge despite expert advice saying the thing that happened would happen. Economic incentives are the reason this happened (not to mention the ship itself was probably poorly maintained, so there's plenty of blame to go around).

Your two party system is broken

We know this, but that doesn’t prevent voting blue from being the best route to changing it

What if I told you voting blue was not actually changing anything?

[-] goferking0@lemmy.sdf.org 52 points 5 months ago

how dare you spread Russian or Chinese propaganda instead of usa/Isreali propaganda

[-] HumanBehaviorByBjork@hexbear.net 34 points 5 months ago

oh boy the master gave me these awesome tools and said i could dismantle the master's house with them if i keep trying!

[-] FuckyWucky@hexbear.net 73 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

Biden had four years to codify abortion, book bans aren't done at the national level, why isn't anyone wearing masks anymore under Biden?

Infrastructure bill is good but clearly insufficient, Biden capitulated as he has always done.

Affordable? Why isn't Insulin, a life or death drug for some people, free? Where is the free healthcare?

Rescheduling isn't decriminalization or legalization.

Biden and Trump have things in common, a. support for genocide b. hating immigrants.

[-] HumanBehaviorByBjork@hexbear.net 27 points 5 months ago

every Biden Win is like the thing they're claiming he did is a tenth of what needed to be done, and when you look at what he actually did, it's a tenth of what they claimed.

[-] Ram_The_Manparts@hexbear.net 72 points 5 months ago

It's fucking wild how lemmy.world somehow managed to just turn into an even worse reddit lmao

[-] Des@hexbear.net 33 points 5 months ago

it's the water that percolates down through a dumpster

[-] Ram_The_Manparts@hexbear.net 17 points 5 months ago

Damn that is such a perfect description lol

[-] Cowbee@lemmy.ml 11 points 5 months ago

Cutting out leftist instances from federation will leave the anti-leftists to be drawn to it.

At least on Reddit, the community was whole regardless.

The flip side is that defederating from Lemmy.world leaves instances far nicer to interact with, fewer zionists and fascists and more leftists, but it also results in a growing anti-leftist echo chamber.

[-] FourteenEyes@hexbear.net 64 points 5 months ago

BIGGEST CLIMATE BILL IN HISTORY is what climate scientists say is not nearly enough, globally we should be spending trillions just on trying to fix this but basically nothing is being done

[-] plinky@hexbear.net 46 points 5 months ago

biggest by nature of being bigger than 0 pinocchio-evil

[-] chickentendrils@hexbear.net 35 points 5 months ago

We just love burning hydrocarbons, if aliens ever catalogue earth that'll be our defining characteristic.

[-] Dirt_Owl@hexbear.net 61 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

Biden has done none of those things lmao

Also imagine thinking any of that is even remotely good enough given the challenges facing the world right now

[-] GenderIsOpSec@hexbear.net 52 points 5 months ago

they banned abortion? huh, and who was in control of the country when they banned abortion? oh the democrats? really makes you do a big think thinking-about-it

[-] highalectical@lemmygrad.ml 52 points 5 months ago

Where can I find this affordable insulin? Asking for a friend.

[-] goferking0@lemmy.sdf.org 26 points 5 months ago

Depends on if you consider 35 affordable :(

[-] highalectical@lemmygrad.ml 25 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

I personally can afford it because I'm privileged af, but that's unaffordable for most burgerlanders. Also, let me guess: it's mean tested too?

[-] Robert_Kennedy_Jr@hexbear.net 40 points 5 months ago

It's for senior citizens or people that are on Medicare, which means being a senior citizen or having a crippling disability.

[-] Awoo@hexbear.net 14 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

35 for what? A dose? A day? A week? A month?

[-] goferking0@lemmy.sdf.org 10 points 5 months ago

Maybe a month. Idk what amount they (maker) calls a month supply

[-] Awoo@hexbear.net 9 points 5 months ago

The number really matters. Huge difference in affordability between a day/week/month.

It’s brutal reading through those comments.

[-] CindyTheSkull@hexbear.net 29 points 5 months ago

It’s actually quite crazy to see the amount of change Biden could get done even with out control of the legislative branch. Adding to that, the Republicans are in disarray too yet things still got done. I’m surprised OP didn’t include the largest climate legislation in world history. I want to see another country or region beat us, as this would be welcome competition.

agony-limitless

[-] Zrc@hexbear.net 25 points 5 months ago

I want to see another country or region beat us, as this would be welcome competition.

yeah we've seen how Biden welcomed Chinese competition.

largest climate change legislation in human history

doubt

I guess that would make sense if you didn't know anything about any other country's climate legislation, which is presumably the case here.

[-] wtypstanaccount04@hexbear.net 35 points 5 months ago

The high-speed rail (HSR) network in the People's Republic of China (PRC) is the world's longest and most extensively used – with a total length of 45,000 kilometres (28,000 mi) by the end of 2023

How about this?

[-] PolandIsAStateOfMind@lemmygrad.ml 24 points 5 months ago

They probably either never heard of it or think it's fake potemkin train or are so brainwashed with car culture they think it's detrimental to China's development.

[-] highalectical@lemmygrad.ml 29 points 5 months ago

"Largest climate legislation in world history" might be true if by "world" they mean the international community^TM^.

[-] DamarcusArt@lemmygrad.ml 29 points 5 months ago

What the hell do they mean by "largest climate legislation in world history?"

I propose to the congress of ME that we make the entire world use renewable energy by 2069. 100% yes vote, the motion passes. There. I just passed the biggest bit of climate legislation in world history. Sure, literally nothing will happen due to this, but I passes the legislation. Which is apparently enough for libs. Completely empty promises with no goal on how to achieve them.

[-] hsv@hexbear.net 13 points 5 months ago

large adult climate change legislation

[-] Leon_Frotsky@hexbear.net 37 points 5 months ago

breaking: a libensraum.world user just posted cringe. This is the 1,001th time its happened, surely it will be just as riveting (if not more) the 1,002nd time it happens.

[-] lemmyseizethemeans@lemmygrad.ml 30 points 5 months ago

BUILD BACK BETTER

lol

[-] EcoMaowist@hexbear.net 26 points 5 months ago

Why do so many people like this guy? He's not charismatic, he hasn't done much good and has done a lot of bad, and yet so many people have become blue MAGAs (at least online). It's not even a point of lesser evil for them, they like him!

[-] Cowbee@lemmy.ml 11 points 5 months ago

It is lesser evilism. They convince themselves Biden is good because their hatred of Trump and lack of theory leads them to reflexively take the side of the Democrats, and then gaslight themselves.

They'd accuse you of being a foreign agent/bot
