Good?

You should be able to use gun emoji for actionable threats.

@makotech222@hexbear.net made a really good thread to help people deal with windows 11. I learned from it.

A bunch of people started posting about Linux in that thread.

Sometimes a good judge of if there’s enough interest to have a community is if people are talking about it in threads where it’s off topic.

Would it help to have a Linux comm?

Buried lede: fracking wastewater contains massive amounts of lithium!

The water that’s supposed to go back into the water table contains massive amounts of lithium!

It’s brutal reading through those comments.

The only reason we have plastics is b cause they can be made from the byproducts of oil refining.

The only reason we’re hearing about how you can’t actually recycle plastics and they’re permanent poisons now is because the oil party’s looking to wind down and all the crazy crap we do with plastic has got to wind down too.

In what way was the President of the Weimar Republic representing an institution more like the Supreme Court?

If only more people had voted for Hindenburg, he would have won the election and Hitler would have never come to power.

The problem with ar is that it’s promise isn’t improved quality of life for white collar workers, but increased productivity from the skilled labor pool by allowing a carrot and stick approach of huds with condensed centuries of experiential information and an unprecedented level of tracking.

The goal is to make it easier to slap anyone into a position that would currently provide a decent wage by giving them a computer that says “described symptoms indicate probable seal failure” & highlights the bolts to take out in robocop dick shoota vision and then beeps insistently when they’re on smoke break too long.

But they need to develop the technology first, and white collar workers are willing to buy and use the thing but can’t provide the kind of feedback that developers are looking for.

Tag yourself, I’m the little glass of water with its own podium seat at the table.

It’s pretty fun. I don’t think anyone who has to drive a long way and pay big for outdoor clothes and equipment rental is having fun though.

Some of the nicest memories I have are stunting on rich tourists in fifteen year old thrift store gear that got refurbished at a shop in the off season.

It’s nice to go fast.

Counterpoint: whitetail deer are insanely overpopulated to the point that they’re spreading a prion disease.

Maybe running an industrial scale drive and cull on that population would be nicer than being confronted with the absurdity of hunting culture, but it would also be orders of magnitude more expensive and unpopular.

Unpopular take incoming:

The nsa backdoor is most likely in every arm thing. Also it’s probably a “western” power.

Companies don’t design microprocessors “from scratch”, they license functional units and include them. Either the backdoor was part of some part that was licensed for inclusion in a12-a16 or it’s part of a domestic spying program that apples not allowed to talk about and was directed to include.

Either way, if the details of that generation of chips are resolvable with sem, expect to hear about more arm chips with it in the future.

It’s most likely a western power because the people that found it are from kaspersky. It was being used against them.

If you read this post and got worried because you have an iPhone: the physical hardware vulnerability in question took a complex multi step process involving three vulnerabilities to even access. Update to ios 16.6 or higher to remove the three other vulnerabilities and remove the ability of that physical backdoor to be addressed.

If you’re worried that this means you should switch away from your phone asap: as I said above, there’s a good chance this affects many arm chips. If you already have a device that has been patched, consider sticking with the devil you know.
