Me and the boys went to Japan once and were ordering gin tonics. They gradually became stronger and stronger until they told us that they run out of tonic water.

By then we were already drunk and very loud. Must have been quite bad being on that plane and wanting to catch up on some sleep.

Sorry for that.

He he OK I changed it to gin ^^

The plane probably had a low stock of alcohol. The drinks trolley usually goes really slowly down the aisle so all it might have taken was a dozen or so passengers ordering a couple of cans each and then they're sold out.

R.I.P. Wade Boggs.

(Had to double-check his wiki to make sure this reference is still safe to make.)

Did you think he might have come back from the dead? :p

[-] huginn@feddit.it 4 points 6 months ago

The fact that he's still alive that makes it safe to make.

[-] AtariDump@lemmy.world 2 points 6 months ago

Boss Hogg is still very much alive (he’s actually not).

They still do in Poland at least. I heard a story from an airman about getting a ridiculous alotment of it for barely any flight hours. It was used as antifreeze for windshields. And then they "sprayed it a lot, because it's like budgets, you don't use it all, you lose it". And when saying "sprayed it" he did a motion of chugging a bottle of vodka.

[-] Blackmist@feddit.uk 15 points 6 months ago

Fucking animals.

Have you seen the price of booze on a flight? You get fucked up at the nearest Spoons to the airport like everyone else.

[-] Hugh_Jeggs@lemm.ee 14 points 6 months ago

This is basically just an advert, innit

So they had both drinks that were on the plane?

[-] PostaL@lemmy.world 10 points 6 months ago

Turkish Airways dances all the way to the bank

[-] General_Shenanigans@lemmy.world 5 points 6 months ago

I’ll bet the only reason this ended up a news story is because of one of those Brits who writes for the travel section was on the flight.

Why can you even order alcohol on a commercial flight?

Edit: I don't really know why I'm getting downvoted, it's a genuine question. Smoking on planes was banned in the 90s, so why is drinking still allowed? It arguably affects people around you just as much.

[-] EmoDuck@sh.itjust.works 36 points 6 months ago

To answer your edit, because second hand drinking isn't a thing

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world -5 points 6 months ago

Isn't it? Considering the number of people who get drunk and belligerent on planes and end up assaulting people...

[-] kevincox@lemmy.ml 9 points 6 months ago

99% of people who order alcohol on a flight don't get belligerent. But every smoker disturbs people around them.

However it is unfortunately very difficult to tell who will get belligerent before serving them and there is not much in the way of discipline afterwards. Although to be fair the people who cause the most disturbance will probably be loud and annoying even if they don't have anything to drink.

[-] pastermil@sh.itjust.works 4 points 6 months ago

The probability remains much lower than getting the smoke from your neighboring smoker.

[-] homesnatch@lemm.ee 26 points 6 months ago

Commercially, oftentimes, goods and services are exchanged for money.

[-] Turun@feddit.de 13 points 6 months ago

For what it's worth, smoking was probably banned because of the fire risk and how easily it annoys people nearby. Alcohol is much more contained and mostly affects the person who directly consumes it.

Though I agree, considering how high the safety standards are in aviation, having people on board that are under the influence of drugs seems like something that should be banned.

[-] AI_toothbrush@lemmy.zip 7 points 6 months ago

Lol with this logic you could ban people from planes. I dont think alcohol is that bad. And if they serve so much alcohol people get drunk than thats another problem. Im not the best person to be talking about this because i dont drink and i dont care if people drink.

[-] moon@lemmy.cafe 12 points 6 months ago

Cuz they're sitting for hours, why not lol

[-] FireWire400@lemmy.world -4 points 6 months ago

Because it somehow seems like a huge safety hazard to have a bunch of drunk people doing drunk people stuff in a plane

This summer…

…airline food ain't what you gotta worry about…

…the sequel you’ve all been waiting for…

DRUNKS ON A PLANE

At 30,000 feet, snakes aren't the deadliest thing on this plane…drunks are.

(Rated R. May contain scenes not suitable for sober people.)

having a drink does not make you drunk.

[-] Squizzy@lemmy.world 11 points 6 months ago

How does it arguably affect people around younjust as much? Have you ever been scond hand drunk or caught second hand liver failure?

Not everyone is a loud drunk, I get a couple whiskeys in me on a flight while I read my book relax and fall asleep.

I am hesitant to be negative but like mind your business, you have every right to complain when it impacts you.
