Can someone tell me how many loss are in this jpeg?

[-] Sombyr@lemmy.zip 30 points 9 months ago

Probably a lot. Jpegs have lossy compression.

[-] FatTony@lemm.ee 11 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

I counted about 28 original loss'. With original I mean, for example, I only counted the Loss Eyelashes once for the whole comic.

Edit: I think it's 31 actually.

I got 31 original Loss' so far. The more I look into it, the worse it gets.

I think I got 90 cause I assume the dots on the confetti are another one.

Assuming we're counting duplicates unlike the people above us.

I only got 27 "originals"

Edit: just found the creator's highlights of everything, I sure missed a few: https://imgur.com/REx65rs

Should have used a FLAC instead of a WAV. Its lossless.

[-] Da_Boom@iusearchlinux.fyi 7 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

I mean aren't they both lossless?

Edit:

Apparently it depends on the codec wrapped in the RIFF, of which WAV is an instance of.

That said, the most common format for wav is apparently LPCM, which is lossless and uncompressed.

Loss is a good meme, but imo B^U was the superior CAD meme.

Also fuck Tim Buckley, still.

Scroll down to the "Reception" section, it's in the first paragraph. It's hard to get the full effect from that paragraph though, as B^U became an automatically response to anything Buckley or C-A-D related for a long while. It was more of a textual social meme than an image macro'ed meme so it doesn't cast as long of a shadow today, but I'll always associate Tim with B^U first.

Someone better get kicked into a bottomless pit. Although when that happens, you usually die of dehydration.

[-] Smoogs@lemmy.world 8 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

Jesus…CAD is still around? I forgot it existed about a decade ago.

I'm not sure if it's still around, but one of my discord servers is determined to repeatedly resurrect the corpse of loss and parade it around. Usually what I see shared is a lot more subtle than this, though lol

[-] Ziglin@lemmy.world 3 points 9 months ago

What is CAD in this case? I get the feeling your TLA is not referring to computer-aided design or Canadian Dollars.

[-] dastechniker@lemmy.world 4 points 9 months ago

Webcomic Ctrl Alt Delete. I think it still exists, but it's greatest cultural impact has been loss.jpg, in which the author tried to convey the tragedy of a miscarriage in the same four-panel format as the rest of his comedy strip.

[-] Ziglin@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago

Ok it seems like the comic that "Loss" is from is called ctrl alt delete or something, so I'm guessing that's it.

Guys remember that meme we all based our personality on from ages ago?

All I know this meme from is about memes being this meme.
