Apparently this is the correct tool for cutting braided wire rope.

[–] ikidd@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 5 days ago

This is the correct answer.

[–] perviouslyiner@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Anyone who repairs bicycles will have one for trimming brake and gear cables.

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Haven't had a bike in years and years, still have the tool.

[–] LordGimp@fedinsfw.app 22 points 6 days ago

Tin snips is a poor choice for cutting braided security wire. These are for cutting soft to mild sheet metals, but youre going to struggle with anything tougher than banding steel.

Youd want either the wire cutters above or small bolt cutters for security wire like OP

[–] athatet@lemmy.zip 11 points 6 days ago

Trying to cut those wires with that tool will fuck up your tool.

Source: tried it.

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 84 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Seems like you could open the package and just use it from within the net

[–] gnufuu@lemmy.ca 42 points 6 days ago

Nice conversation starter too

[–] DudeImMacGyver@kbin.earth 66 points 6 days ago

Your purse is stupid!

There, I said it.

[–] peteypete420@sh.itjust.works 16 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Pretty sure a regular pair of scissors would take care of those awful bracelets. Hth

Iirc these things are “locked” by magnetic elements so just run a strong magnet around the gray part and listen for anything moving around. Might need multiple magnets at once

Step 1: Cut a hole in the box....

[–] Turret3857@infosec.pub 26 points 6 days ago (2 children)

Step 2: Put your dick in that box

[–] socsa@piefed.social 19 points 6 days ago (1 children)
[–] Kn1ghtDigital@lemmy.zip 7 points 6 days ago

Instructions unclear, dick stuck in ceiling fan.

[–] qarbone@lemmy.world 17 points 6 days ago

That's not why it's called a hard drive.

[–] Magnum@infosec.pub 16 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Is it smart to post all the bar codes and numbers online if this item has been stolen?

[–] GiantChickDicks@lemmy.ml 6 points 5 days ago (1 children)

The bar code identifies the specific type of product, not a n individual example within that type of product. It's not a serial code.

I ran into this a lot when I worked for a pet food manufacturer. If there was an issue with a product, customers often assumed the UPC could identify when the product was made, where it was distributed, and even where it was purchased. It does not. Otherwise packaging would be incredibly inefficient to make because each bag of the same recipe and size would need its own unique UPC.

[–] ozymandias117@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago (1 children)

That sticker has a serial number, not just a UPC

It's valid if you try to check its warranty status on their website

[–] GiantChickDicks@lemmy.ml 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

My apologies, I didn't see that.

[–] crystalmathadept@lemmy.zip 5 points 3 days ago

It’s ok GiantChickDicks. We will let it slide this time

[–] Furbag@pawb.social 9 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Get some heavy duty wire cutters, that would be the easiest method, but if you don't have any you can just take a hammer to that plastic bit and obliterate it. Heck, even a hefty stone would work.

[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

Modern problems require caveman solutions

Slutty hard drive costume for Halloween

[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

The wire is steel but the crimps are aluminium. You can heat the crimps with a cigarette lighter til they soften enough to pull the wire apart. A lighter flame is about 1200 degrees at the tip, aluminium melts at ~650 depending on the alloy

[–] i_stole_ur_taco@lemmy.ca 20 points 6 days ago (1 children)

If we’re being very lazy with few tools, a pair of pliers will do it. Pinch the wire close to one of the joints and bent it back and forth a bunch of times. The wire cable will eventually snap. Do it for a few of them and it’ll open a big enough hole.

Or, uh, return it to the store where you found it or alert the local police so the local corporate retail site gets their, uh, property back. Yeah.

There’s also a joke about sexy fishnet stockings but I’m having trouble completing the joke.

[–] despoticruin@anarchist.nexus 5 points 5 days ago

There is a joke about fishnets but I'm having trouble getting it around my head.

[–] Zozano@aussie.zone 13 points 6 days ago

Disassemble it, take the parts out and reassemble it. Be sure to blow bits of dust and hair off the platter before reassembly.

[–] thagoat@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 6 days ago

Bolt cutters

[–] eyelevel@lemmy.world 6 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 children)

Bolt cutters would make quick work of those cables; but if you don't already have some, you might see if you can get a couple of flat head screw drivers into the top of the notch where your fingers are in the picture. I'm guessing that's part of where the plastic cage comes apart when it's unlocked, so it could be a good leverage point if you wanted to try just forcing it open.

[–] SavinDWhales@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago (2 children)
[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

Use the middle one to chomp.the cable and free the others

[–] modus@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago

Overkill. Any multi-tool or pocket-sized wire cutters will make fast work of this.

[–] P1k1e@lemmy.world 8 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Ah yes, diagonal cutters are much cheaper than an external hard drive

[–] Paddzr@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago

Cutters? Why are you going for the steel wire when there's very easily smahsable plastic piece?

[–] Siegfried@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

Keep it as decoration, you can use it without taking it out... you got yourself an extra faraday cage layer

[–] WhiteOakBayou@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago

Grinder or snips on the cables or just crush the top plastic part with either a hammer or your vehicle tires.

Have you tried paying for it?

In this economy?!
