Prunes, I also really like freeze dried strawberries and buy bags of that when they have them at costco

[–] mirshafie@europe.pub 1 points 6 days ago

Prunes are actually so nice. You get really shifty looks from people if you suggest it but it's just a cheap, nice food.

I am not employed by nor promoting this company, I've just been a loyal customer for 5 years: j i m my j o y d o t c o m has quick effortless convenient foods that provide 100% RDA of all nutrients in a rectangular bar that looks & tastes like rice crispy treats, and their powdered shakes. I live in USA but people who live in Europe get even more options like savory soups and more variety of flavors of bars & shakes. I'm particularly envious of their Speculoos flavor and cherry pie flavor and savory soups that aren't available in USA. And it's all VERY inexpensive.

Banana is hard to beat for convenience. I'd say a close second for me is either mixed nuts or sumo oranges

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 week ago

Those little sumo oranges are so tasty!

[–] AbouBenAdhem@lemmy.world 21 points 1 week ago (3 children)
[–] Hikermick@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Also nuts but I prefer raw or at least unsalted. Cashews, almonds, pecans, walnuts

[–] Damarus@feddit.org 4 points 1 week ago

Nuts and berries, the stuff is too good

[–] ieGod@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Nuts are awesome, but it's so easy to go from healthy serving to "whoops I'll just hit the gym harder tomorrow".

[–] CalypsoGirl@lemmy.today 1 points 6 days ago

One cashew = damn I have to run a marathon to burn this off now.

things you can say while the europeans are asleep

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 13 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Hahahaha didn’t even think about that!

Maybe I should’ve said a spoonful of peanut butter as well ;)

[–] jaykrown@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Your existence actually kind of makes me happy.

With its phallic shape string cheese is a deeply anti-feminist snack.

You should have a mango or orange instead.

[–] jaykrown@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

What's anti-feminist about phallic shape? At that point wouldn't peach be the most feminist?

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.social 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

A peach is up there but something like a corndog or a sardine is just wrong.

[–] jaykrown@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Sardine is way healthier than a corndog, why put both of them together?

Just deep fry a battered hotdog made of sardines.

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Is it still anti-feminist if I string it myself without the help of a man?

What if I have a harem of men peel an orange for me?

Hmmm...I have things to think about....

[–] jaykrown@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago

I don't think any of that is anti-feminist. Things that would probably be anti-feminist are things that take away from women primarily because they are a woman.

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 4 points 1 week ago

Thank you for reminding me I still have a couple sticks I gotta use!

[–] Okokimup@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I make a big batch of tasty high-fiber granola and keep it in the freezer. Almost every day I have some with Greek yogurt and berries.

[–] jaykrown@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Smart, yogurt and berries are massive in terms of health.

[–] Pratai@piefed.ca 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)
[–] amelia@feddit.org 5 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Cheese is not exactly healthy. Lots of saturated fats.

[–] Pratai@piefed.ca 1 points 6 days ago
[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 1 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

Maybe. Cheese also has protein, and is pretty good at making you feel full. Any snack i eat less of is a healthy snack

There’s also a protective element in dairy, at least in animals. I believe they haven’t been able to create human studies to prove this either way

[–] amelia@feddit.org 2 points 5 days ago

Yeah I agree, especially about the making you feel full part. It's definitely not the worst snack in the world. Just snacking some tofu for example would be a much healthier alternative though. More protein, less fat. Cheese is usually tastier, but some smoked tofu variants with spices and maybe nuts aren't actually that bad.

Bananas with peanut butter

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

Oats. We do a two-day oat diet a few times a year, with three meals a day consisting of 80g of oats and half a liter of tea or broth.

[–] python@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Whole jar of pickles? That's probably healthy, right?

[–] RebekahWSD@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago (4 children)

Bananas are good. I like yogurt as well when I have it. Lately in the convenience but not healthy is a single Hawaiian roll because they help with my stomach acid problem.

Beans, rice, veggies. Put in frying pan, fill with water, turn to low simmer, walk away for 40-60 min. Until the water is gone, basically. I use ~140g dry beans, rice gets eyeballed depending on how hungry I am at the moment. Up to a quarter cup? Beans stay consistent due to soaking. Veggies are whatever I have on hand. I like to mix in leafy stuff after it's done though. That's about two meals, which will keep for a day, maybe two unrefrigerated. Flavor profile is muted and heavily seasoning dependent, so you can still have "variety" without having to plan ahead.

[–] dmir@gehirneimer.de 3 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Do you put a lid on it or just walk away?

That sounds like a perfect lazy meal for me, thanks for the tips.

[–] impairedimperator@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

No lid, you want the water to boil off. Otherwise you have sad soup. Personally, I actually fry it a bit after the water boils off, get a little bit of crispy on the edges

Grapes 🤣

[–] scytale@piefed.zip 6 points 1 week ago

Canned sardines are my quick go-to brunch if I’m too lazy to prepare anything. I’ll usually have leftover rice in the fridge. Then I can quickly cook an egg too.

[–] socsa@piefed.social 5 points 1 week ago

Olives and carrots with hot sauce.

[–] Zwuzelmaus@feddit.org 4 points 1 week ago

An Apple a day. For real.

Not too fancy, I know :)

[–] SamB@lemmy.world 1 points 6 days ago

Straight from the tree!

Chia seed “pudding”, but with water to make them expand. I’ll eat plain if particularly pressed for time. Usually I add granola or some maple syrup for flavor.

[–] felixwhynot@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Y’all sleeping on GORP
