it turned its true believers into coldhearted prudes who are unwilling to forgive people for mistakes

Can't forgive someone who isn't sorry, Chris.

I really despise this liberal "the problem with my enemies is they refuse to change their mind or question their worldview" thing. Like, show some fucking self-awareness please.

Oh.. by the way...strict gun control will make the country a much saver place for everyone .

Facts show that all halfway developed countries with gun control are significantly saver in all kpi s than the US

even saying "woke" in a derogatory way is deeply unserious, you would have to waterboard me to put a fucking version number on it

[–] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 40 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Also “no forgiveness”?

So much for “no one owes you anything.” If respect is earned and not owed, then forgiveness is the same way. You EARN forgiveness, you’re not entitled to it. Also, if you’re not even sorry for it, why do you care someone’s holding a grudge?

[–] CupcakeOfSpice@hexbear.net 14 points 21 hours ago

The Western Evangelical killed that concept. Jesus forgave everyone, so no effort is required on your part to gain forgiveness. No sorry, (except maybe a performative one) no effort to change, just claim Jesus got it for you. Even the Bible indicates that you have to make an effort to make ammends and work to change yourself.

I think we should start marking 2016-2024 as The Great Delusion. Between Russiagate, all the denial about Trump and America's right wing nature, woke, covid, the protests, mass denial of genocide, and coping with losing a war, it's all one big false reality. Nobody knows what happened 10 years ago because the media and pop culture are guided to make everyone forget and spin false memories. News sites remove and hide their own coverage. The only real form of public memory is podcasters yapping to each other inside their mansions about what they half-ass remember watching online from inside their mansions.

Improving your point dramatically by being able to make an 8 item list and Q-anon didn't make it the cut ohnoes

[–] Athena5898@hexbear.net 40 points 23 hours ago

Forgiveness is hard to get if someone is not actually sorry. edgeworth-shrug

[–] GoodGuyWithACat@hexbear.net 42 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

There was a brief moment where woke meant "PoC be aware of the systems of power that are built to oppress you" and now it means "person who doesn't like slurs".

[–] fox@hexbear.net 29 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

It's a political spectrum that goes fash - chud - normie - woke - tankie

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 19 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

tankie - woke - normie - chud - fash

Dialectical

I tried for about four minutes to edit this into a horseshoe theory but I'm giving up.

[–] Evilsandwichman@hexbear.net 3 points 13 hours ago

And now the horseshoe is on the other hoof

idk guy I used to be a reactionary then I learned how to be a good person and shut up and listen and the left was pretty welcoming. Skill issue.

Literally was a dick for like 23 years and then grew an empathy lobe in my brain like Spore over a single night of wizardflipping, and the intolerant left was shockingly gracious and hospitable when I got back.

[–] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 22 points 23 hours ago

Like the same people who use the word entitled and look at him basically saying.

“I’m not sorry! But how dare you don’t forgive me for something I’m not sorry for!”

[–] CyborgMarx@hexbear.net 11 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

I fuckin despise AOC, for the briefest, barest of moments Woke 1.0 was about to be defined as 'Progressive except Palestine' and liberalism

And then she had to open her big corporate mouth and hand the libs and chuds a loaded gun

Definition of an albatross around the neck

[–] Lussy@hexbear.net 23 points 22 hours ago

chris-rocked maybe Chris needs some more

[–] Lussy@hexbear.net 22 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago)

Chris Rock dished the big "problem with wokeness" is it turned its true believers into coldhearted prudes who are unwilling to forgive people for mistakes...

How many children, Chris?

[–] RaoulDuke25@lemmy.dbzer0.com 25 points 23 hours ago

I'm sure he's about to have some allegations come to light.

Maybe woke 1 should have burned some people at the stake

[–] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 13 points 21 hours ago

Wealth prions have made Swiss cheese out of his brain

[–] oliveoil@hexbear.net 7 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

What in the Epstein is this push to create woke 2.0?

[–] barrbaric@hexbear.net 15 points 19 hours ago

Regardless of its origin, it is now a deliberate propaganda operation that is attempting to convince well-meaning liberals to dial back their demands. After all, everybody else did, and you wouldn't want to be unreasonable like woke 1 was, now would you?

[–] EmmiLime@lemmy.ml 16 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Okay, I am out of the loop with the woke 1.0 stuff. Any lore on this?

[–] free_casc@hexbear.net 20 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

I wouldnt wade too deep into it. A few weeks back AOC was on an interview on national TV . She mentioned a comment from a colleague who said "woke 1 was crazy", and iirc meant it as a reflection on how in the 2010s identity politics and cancel culture were wielded as a weapon to shred and destroy people, rather than build constructive dialogue that focuses on solutions.

This sparked a flurry of discussion on left Twitter and other online space, and the terminology has taken on its own life (in a negative way, the defintions are too fuzzy to be useful). You end up with a spectrum of takes including the usual extremes like "so you and AOC are saying that racists and abusers shouldn't suffer consequences?" And that sort of thing.

[–] JoeByeThen@hexbear.net 22 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

No, during that same interview the interviewer tied it to police abolition and she stepped back from defunding /abolishing police. The colleague may have been talking about cancel culture but her interview that got everyone angry was much more than that.

[–] free_casc@hexbear.net 4 points 18 hours ago

Right, that was an aspect I forgot about, which I think furthers my main point that the conversation has gotten super muddled.

[–] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 19 points 1 day ago

And who was responsible for the Salem Witch Trials? Oh, the ‘based’ crowd lying to themselves to come up with reasons to indulge in murdering women?

And what is wokeness? Stupid people being annoyed they have to learn to respect others?

Of course, basic manners is torture to stupid people so I guess I can see why they’d say that. Not being a jackass really does feel as bad as burning if you’re a total idiot.
