Okay, I am out of the loop with the woke 1.0 stuff. Any lore on this?

I wouldnt wade too deep into it. A few weeks back AOC was on an interview on national TV . She mentioned a comment from a colleague who said "woke 1 was crazy", and iirc meant it as a reflection on how in the 2010s identity politics and cancel culture were wielded as a weapon to shred and destroy people, rather than build constructive dialogue that focuses on solutions.

This sparked a flurry of discussion on left Twitter and other online space, and the terminology has taken on its own life (in a negative way, the defintions are too fuzzy to be useful). You end up with a spectrum of takes including the usual extremes like "so you and AOC are saying that racists and abusers shouldn't suffer consequences?" And that sort of thing.

No, during that same interview the interviewer tied it to police abolition and she stepped back from defunding /abolishing police. The colleague may have been talking about cancel culture but her interview that got everyone angry was much more than that.

Right, that was an aspect I forgot about, which I think furthers my main point that the conversation has gotten super muddled.
