Moderator Guidelines
Moderator Guidelines
- Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
- Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
- When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
- Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
- Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
- Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
- Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
- Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
- Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
- Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
- Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
- Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
- First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
- Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
- No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
- Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
- Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.
In various places with turkish diaspora, the locals treat it as a generic takeway, so various other things are served that aren't part of turkish cuisine, like chips, pizza, maybe fried fish.
Turkish people remind me of the Chinese in a way, they know how to adapt their cuisine to meet whatever the locals like. There are a handful of very successful bagel shops run by Turkish people near where I live.
I wonder if they are sephardic jews?
EDIT : Ask about simit to make them smile!
You don't add fries to your kebab!?
I've never seen that, but it was my first guess as well. People here are already doing Doner-boxes with fries, meat and sauce in a takeout box, I'm assuming for people under doctor's orders to eat a veggie-free high-grease and high-sodium diet.
Years ago I've ate one with fries in Italy. It was okay ish. I mean its extra fat salt and carbs added so it must be.
I don't.
Potatoes
abiminations
Seamus, get the armalite
some places use french fries for volume instead of cabbage/coleslaw. Ngl, they be cookin, potatoes absorb the sauce and the meat juice, making it incredibly more tasty.
In Belgium, fries are added to the Dürüms. Surprisingly good. But in Berlin where Döner Kebab is at home, potatoes in the Dürüm is a special dish that only some places even have on the menu. I wonder where OP is from
But in Berlin where Döner Kebab is at home
Listen here you Open Suse using Hans, Berlin is where the kebab is living at the moment... abroad. The home is somewhere in the ottoman empire.
In Belgium, fries are added to the Dürüms.
Goddamnit. There is only one awesome european hybrid kebab, and it's the dutch kapsolon; Gouda Cheese and Döner Kebap, together at last.
open suse using hans
you have won the argument. i concede
Akschually, while the döner was invented by a turkish immigrant it was invented in berlin making berlin its home
Not really, döner sandwiches have existed before that, and this is Germans trying to take unjust credit.
EDIT : If Döner is German, how come no ethnic Germans are cooking it? Turning Point Kebab
And I whish even less had it on their menu. I have had more that one dürüm ruined by such additions. Sometimes without asking and sometimes because I forgot how much I hated it the last time.
Okay without asking is a crime, but Gemüse Döner with greasy fried potatoes, zucchini and carrots is delicious and you can't change my mind :D
In Armenia, they put potatoes into shawarma (a more common name for durum/kebab), so it's a little bit of everything: meat, veggies, potatoes, sauce. But it's non-essential and not a lot would change if it's removed.
it's great, u should try it >:3
No
You guys would be amazed how much potato meal is used for
Potato starch goes into paper and board manufacturing, textiles, adhesives, pharmaceuticals, and also food as a thickener.
Some potatoes are also fermented into alcohol (vodka) or bioethanol
I've even heard rumors of some people boiling and then eating them!
No way! Like in a stew?
For example!
I HAVE to write this down!

Do kebap shops often use potatoes??
The way I heard it, great potato famine wasn’t as big a deal as the extreme exploitation, colonization, and failure of industrialization as well as landlords and religious apartheid that began earlier.
Which very much surprised me.
It exacerbated existing problems and piled more on top.
Exploitation led to potato being relied upon near exclusively due to how cheap it was per calorie. So when the famine hit, it affected many places but it affected Ireland uniquely severely.
Doner with potato? WTF. Where I come from, "Döner" is meat and vegetables in flatbread, I don't see where potato is supposed to come in.
Either way, before potatoes were introduced in my country, most people ate bread or grain-based porridges/gruels with every meal. Since it was usually wholegrain, that might even have been healthier than peeled potatoes.
Doner wth fries is very common where I am
Kebab on chip, house sauce, hold the tomatoes.
and vegetables
Seems the most logical place however potato bread has seen use.
If potatoes disappeared, i would probably just not eat potatoes. May need to eat more bread because of it, from 94.3% of all food i eat to 94.6% of all food i eat
Depends on how you define, “potato.” There are some really similar tube roots, like sweet potato and batatas. Taro, beets, parsnips and other veggies make really good chips.
Well,if it wasn't for the famine, I would still be in Ireland
Starve to death.
Knock knock.
Who's there?
Climate Change motherfucker
As an American all of these consequences seem nonsensical
You aren't concerned about losing potato chips or French fries? I'm confiscating your American card.
... Go for sweet potatoes instead? There's a lot of vegetables from which crisps can be made.
*Bag of Chips
Typically the chippys give you them in a box, in the past an old newspaper, but a bag would probably be acceptable.
