Why is everything purple and my vertical tabs are oval, it genuinely looks like vibecoded slop nayuta-crayon

There was literally nothing wrong in the previous design that "Nova" fixed, it's either a side-grade or made worse. I guess liking legible interfaces is a crime prisoner-chained. You will learn to love gradients. charles-agony

Firefucked again monke-beepboop why do tech companies do this shit?

PSA
Turn this shit off in about:config with browser.nova.enabled set to false.

I know this thread is 5 days old but I only just got forced to update, here's the solution to use the old good style:

Type about:config into browser tab

Find Browser:Nova setting and toggle it to disabled.

Problem solved stalin-approval

EDIT: I just now noticed you also edited that into the post. Carryon.

They will probably remove the old "Proton" style at some point but I can't get over the ugly ass purple accents that they put on everything that ignored my desktop's accent color.

At the very worst it's just more mods you need to put on-top of Firefox to make it a usable experience.

It is really really really awful. I do not know how it got the go ahead.

What a banger but no boost, not even a fave; masto truly is a cruel endorphin dessert (affectionately)

Scratched liberals screeching bout switching back to Chromium over some increased border radii...ON A BROWSER THAT LETS YOU USE CUSTOM CSS!

Quit being dramatic because you dont like round and don't like changing settings.

I really wish they would focus on the browser engine and do all the UI stuff and axillary features as extensions in a way that can easily be replaced, downgraded or ripped out.

They have the technology. It's a choice to force this shit on their users.

[–] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 10 points 5 days ago

They gotta spend the money Google gives them on something useless to make users switch to Chrome

[–] Ophrys@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Can't have that because the ceo needs another million dollar payrise I guess

[–] chgxvjh@hexbear.net 6 points 5 days ago

They are spending money on UI redesigns nobody wants instead

ngl i find it a cool painting, aside from head being too lit up. ~~crown in natural habitat~~ crown in glory more poetic

[–] hello_hello@hexbear.net 28 points 6 days ago (1 children)

It also broke container tabs by making their ribbon clip in with the text, genuinely unusable. pigmask-parodied

[–] Biggay@hexbear.net 15 points 6 days ago

bugs? In my new smooth UI?

[–] makotech222@hexbear.net 21 points 6 days ago (1 children)

yeah i immediately turned it off. these fucking designers suck so much.

[–] crazyminner@lemmy.ml 11 points 6 days ago (1 children)

How do you turn it off? I tried changing themes and it doesn't get rid of the rounded corners on tabs.

Firefox vs chromium

[–] space_comrade@hexbear.net 15 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

Idk I don't immediately hate it that much tho I'm not too keen on it either but it was a really unnecessary change to the defaults.

Wow the 2000s really are back, now in UI, too

Oops I like it

[–] JakenVeina@midwest.social 9 points 5 days ago

I dunno about horrible overall, but there's certainly a whole lotta "What problem could this possibly solve?" going on.

The missing close button (presumably the icon that's replaced it is a popout menu, where the close button now resides) is definitely horrendous.

[–] Poutine@hexbear.net 12 points 5 days ago

I recently saw what the new Android looks like and it is similarly bad. We need to return to the era where the user had control over the theme on their device, because no design works for everyone.

[–] segfault11@hexbear.net 15 points 6 days ago

the three genders: M, F, and Firefox

i just want to be able to read the autocomplete in the search bar. i have a separate search and url bar and i can't see the last half of what i'm looking up.

Zen was cool until I tried to use multiple windows. It hates that even if you toggle the hidden setting to allow it. Tabs are always synced between windows but aggressively unloaded. Good luck trying to restore your previous windows after a shutdown.

I have 6 virtual screens that have browser windows open for different purposes and it obviously wasn't built for me.

Unfortunately that combined with the fact that Firefox is having more issues with sites and apps I use (videos not loading in Immich), I finally swapped to Helium browser and went to the chromium engine.

[–] RondoRevolution@hexbear.net 2 points 3 days ago

Yeah that seems like use-case it is failing to allow. But with the window sync, wouldn't have multiple windows open but every single one using a different workspace achieve the result you're seeking? Tho I guess it would be kind of shitty to have to manually open the multiple windows every time you open the browser.

whoever on here who convinced me to switch to librewolf, a cursed pox on your house! thing runs like a shit-covered turd

[–] Mobile@leminal.space 12 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I have have switched over to Zen as of late. What has happened to LibreWolf??

Nothing. Librewolf is basically firefox with some changed default settings.

It makes it so left click saves the content of a clicked on hyperlink to the current directory instead of navigating to that link

[–] doubledealer@hexbear.net 8 points 6 days ago

Been using Waterfox and it's been a great upgrade over stock.

https://github.com/black7375/Firefox-UI-Fix

This has worked well in the past for undoing ridiculous Firefox design choices.

[–] Midnight_Pearl@hexbear.net 4 points 5 days ago

every single UI change after firefox 4, which was peak and is my forever beloved, has been abysmal and totally unnecessary

lately i've just use that new experimental multi-process basilisk branch with classic theme restorer to bring back the pre-australis UI. it's not slow as shit like pale moon (which has the actual firefox 4 UI) on account of it being multi-process, and i can customize it infinitely without it fuckin' changing on me for no reason

the downside(?) is some mainstream chrome-oriented websites just don't work at all but those websites are usually shit anyway so idrgaf
