“Morally binding” AKA Not actionable performative bull shit to appear to take warnings seriously.

I dont think its that.

I think they've all hit a performance wall behind closed doors, because the system behind LLMs is.... Not up for the tasks ahead let's say.

Theyre going to use this to go to investors and say 'see we can't make targets, were now hamstrung'

[–] grue@lemmy.world 13 points 3 days ago

If there's anything actionable about it, it would be collusion to crack down on any Chinese, local, or other AI implementations outside the crony circlejerk.

[–] starblursd@lemmy.zip 63 points 3 days ago

Morally binding like a constitution.... By men with no morals that use the Constitution as toilet paper

[–] floquant@lemmy.dbzer0.com 24 points 3 days ago

AI companies announce they will self-regulate because of their moral obligations

[–] DeadDigger@lemmy.zip 36 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Did theyjust compare a pinky promise to the Constitution of a country and said that a constitution is only morally binding?

[–] chronicledmonocle@lemmy.world 16 points 3 days ago

That's basically how Trump treats the regular US constitution, so why should this one be any different?

[–] adespoton@lemmy.ca 9 points 3 days ago

And it’s between people who we already know are morally compromised.

President Pedophile of the Unites States

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 1 points 2 days ago

Greg Brockman's signature looks like a five year old's as well.

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 41 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

And we know how he treats the constitution.

Asked if the deal was binding, Mr. Trump said: "I think it's morally binding."

Oh, for fuck's sake.

[–] bcgm3@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Maybe he said "it's mmm... Orally binding." I don't think he knows what a moral is.

[–] kablez@lemmy.world 24 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (2 children)

Here we go - they're going to make open models and self hosting illegal and then demand we only get AI from approved American corporations. What a joke.

[–] scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.tech 10 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Make sure your models are downloaded now folks. Nvidia owns huggingface now

[–] eyesaremosaics@lemmy.zip 5 points 3 days ago

Meh, it's not hard for Chinese companies to create a website

[–] Wataba@sh.itjust.works 17 points 3 days ago

A rapist pedophile mass murderer has no morals.

End of fucking story.

[–] schipelblorp@sh.itjust.works 28 points 3 days ago

Morals are only binding if you have them.

[–] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 27 points 3 days ago

Again...he really doesn't understand what the Constitution is for.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 12 points 3 days ago

Almost like the Constitution, in that Trump and his cronies will ignore it.

[–] MIDItheKID@lemmy.world 10 points 3 days ago (1 children)

"And the president said he plans to name an "AI czar" in the next three or four days."

It's probably going to be fucking Kid Rock or some other unqualified Trump simping cronie.

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 1 points 2 days ago

My money's on Musk getting the job, because that would be the worst possible choice.

[–] nonentity@sh.itjust.works 12 points 3 days ago

Any organisation that is permitted to regulate or investigate itself is intrinsically corrupt and unfit for purpose.

[–] weps@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

it will be great the CEO's said "winning" and Trump said they can police each other

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Whenever did any kind of voluntary regulations in industry and commerce actually benefit the people?

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

ESRB maybe? Yeah that's about all I'm coming up with.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

The European Systematic Risk Board? They are part of the European Central Bank. Not much of self-regulating here.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Entertainment Software Rating Board, basically US Pegi.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Ah, OK. That kind is not much regulating, actually. Or have you heard of them demanding serious penalties from someone?

Nah they basically do their thing and nobody thinks about them anymore. They popped up as an industry reaction to people calling for censorship regulations, I think the last time they had any major problems was around 2013 when GTA V released and dumbasses being stupid about that and trying to push an adult rating.

[–] username_1@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)
[–] demonsword@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

they surely are people-shaped, not much more in common with common people though

I thought things like that were considered collusion.

[–] einlander@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago

A constitution for the rich/Epstein class.

[–] VeryVito@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago

What the fuck do any of these signers know about morals?

[–] VeryVito@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Are we not calling it Super Intelligence Dash S.I. anymore? Really thought that was going to catch on...

'Officially'

That's not how it works, Donnie, and answer the fucking question.

[–] Zedstrian@sopuli.xyz 6 points 3 days ago
[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 5 points 3 days ago

the constitution his administration violates as a matter of policy? like that type of constitution.

[–] auzy1@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

One that doesn't disadvantage them in any way, that can be ignored.

Trump has no idea how AI actually works, and he likely didn't get anyone else to check it

[–] Grimy@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

Next comes the regulatory capture but don't worry, it's for your safety.

[–] TheFogan@programming.dev 4 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

We've also decided to add a "pinky promise" layer to this agreement.

You know what, considering that the world see's AI on the same level of nukes. Maybe the iran war can be solved this way. Just give Iran a "morally binding" request to not build nukes. Declare that the new victory and end the iran war.

[–] Steve@startrek.website 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

So we can wipe our ass with it just like the real US constitution

[–] mira_tokarev@lemmy.1095.me 1 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Voluntary standards can be a useful starting point, but they need teeth to be more than a press release: public reporting, incident disclosure, third-party audits, and consequences for quietly dropping the commitments. Calling it a constitution raises the bar; constitutions are meaningful because institutions can enforce them.

[–] TheFogan@programming.dev 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

constitutions are meaningful because institutions can enforce them.

Throughout trumps term... that's sounding less and less to be the case.

Maybe that's the idea, they aren't trying to raise the bar out of what we expect from this pinky swear. Maybe they want us to lower our expectations of a constitution to be "guidelines that we sometimes follow, when they don't get too much in the way of what we want to do".

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 3 days ago

Ding ding ding

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Calling it a constitution raises the bar

No. Calling it a constitution low key reinforces this administration's contempt for the US Constitution. By suggesting it's just a "moral framework"
