As someone who knows quite a few people like this, they are every bit as dumb as you think they are.

[–] SnarkoPolo@lemmy.world 4 points 6 days ago

"I'm white, male, and Christian! Surely the police state isn't for me!"

And don't call me "Shirley."

[–] ICastFist@programming.dev 3 points 6 days ago (1 children)

It's only cognitive dissonance until you remember that police obeys whoever has money, just the way libertarians and ancaps love

[–] Smaile@lemmy.ca 4 points 6 days ago (1 children)

That mf def doesn't have enough money to have that stance mean anything to him though

[–] ICastFist@programming.dev 2 points 6 days ago

Shh, don't tell him that, you'll break his fantasy of the big bad gubmint being the only thing between him and being the next melon musk

ITT - a lot of people making things up. The flag combo is funny and nationalist pilled.

Contradictions to be found.

Capitalist libertarians have always truly been fascists. Their entire ideology is rooted in Social Darwinism.

[–] fonix232@fedia.io 18 points 1 week ago (2 children)

If there was a god or higher being, especially karma or universal reciprocity, the first people to die because of social Darwinism would be the ones propagating social Darwinism.

Not really.

It's "Don't tread on ME" after all. Pigs don't tread on them, they just get warnings. They don't care if other people are tread on.

Also known as fascism.

I find it amazing how this flag became associated with bootlickers. It supposed to symbolize standing up to the king.

It supposed to be waved by everyone who is willing to stand up against authoritarianism and supports democracy.

[–] W98BSoD@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 6 days ago

Maybe we need a new flag

[–] Eldritch@piefed.world 20 points 1 week ago (12 children)

Authoritarianism. It has no strong preference for left or right. Wherever there's a strong man. You will have the people that think the strong man protects them and serves them. Even as he serves himself. And the people who are being tread on.

I can't seem to find the original source, sorry. This one has been sitting in my memes folder for about 5 years, but reverse image search has it bouncing over reddit since then.

That's fine, sometimes that's the way it goes, I'm just happy you tried

They only do this because they’re too scared to fly a confederate or Nazi flag.

Also notice how the “government” is on top of the snake

[–] luksustuoli@sopuli.xyz 15 points 1 week ago (1 children)

So.. Could someone explain to us non-americans?

[–] VindictiveJudge@lemmy.world 36 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The top flag is the 'thin blue line' flag, which promotes the idea that police are the only thing standing between civilization and a murder-happy anarchist dystopia. You'll generally see this flag and ideology attached to right wing authoritarians.

The lower flag is the Gadsden flag, which features a defensively positioned rattlesnake and the words, "Don't tread on me." It was originally a symbol of the colonial independence movement, but the Confederacy used it extensively during the civil war, causing association with the South. It eventually became associated with small government libertarian and anti-authoritarian types in later years, but never lost its association with the Confederacy. More recently, the Republican party started associating themselves with the Gadsden flag both due to their pro-deregulation stance, which they have tried to advertise as them being the party of small government, and as part of The Southern Strategy, an attempt to lure disenfranchised racist voters in the South. As the Republican party as moved further and further to the right, the Gadsden flag has sometimes been used as a neo-fascist symbol. There have been attempts to reappropriate it by anti-authoritarian and anti-fascist groups, however.

[–] ErevanDB@lemmy.zip 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The rattlesnake flag is, in my opinion, a flag that had amazing symbolism for what it represented. A defensive rattlesnake gives plenty of warning, and when push comes to shove, will defend itself and its territory. Then, it got picked up by a group of people who act though and Brave, constantly threaten people, then run away or panic at the first sign of push back.

I knew an "anarcho-capitalist" who believed that cops should be the only service the state provides, to guarantee fair and free market competition or some bs like that.

[–] sunnyjim@lemmy.zip 3 points 6 days ago

You can inform them that what they're arguing for is a 'minarchist' or 'nightwatchman state'.

It's still nonsense but at least they'll call themselves by the right label.

I'm tired of repeating myself, but Stockholm syndrome is pure Copaganda bullshit.

ACAB

[–] athatet@lemmy.zip 1 points 6 days ago (1 children)

True. It was made up by Swedish cops as an excuse for not doing their jobs.

straight up gaslighting the victims because they commented on how bad the police handled the situation.
