They should all boycott the White House and just stop giving Trump air. It's all just bullshit responses anyway.

[–] A_Random_Idiot@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago

they wont and they cant.

They are too addicted to the viewership that comes from the world tuning in all day every day to see what fresh horrors the dancing monkey is up to this time. and those insane viewership numbers leads to big ratings and big ad revenues.

its why they've been so obsessed with him since the beginning. Even before his first run they were broadcasting him all day every day, giving him billions in free coverage and being one of the big factors in his first election win.

and they learned nothing since. They tried to do the same with Biden, but Biden was a boring president who didnt constantly fellate controversy, He just did his job, and did it well, to the point that the news media ratings plummeted and they tried desperately to escalate everyhing he did into some manufactured controversy to get the viewership back.

and they all popped the biggest of joyboners when Trump ran again, and the viewers, and ratings, came flooding back.

While I agree on the surface, that would be giving them free reign to do whatever they want. They should still cover the press releases, but do things like mute the person at the lectern and add their own “the White House banned reporters from the news room, so we’re only releasing a summary of press briefings until that is changed” type of voiceover to it instead. Literally remove their voice and dub your own instead.

Have every reporter in every briefing only ask when the banned reporters will be allowed back. You just released a briefing on the situation in Iran? When will the banned reporters have their credentials reinstated and be allowed back inside the press room? You just released a briefing on gas prices? When will the banned reporters have their credentials reinstated and be allowed back inside the press room? You just released a briefing on Israel? When will the banned reporters have their credentials reinstated and be allowed back inside the press room? The question doesn’t change until they address it, and if the answer isn’t “we’re allowing them back in” then the exact same question gets repeated by the next reporter. It would require a massive act of solidarity on the reporters’ side, but it would be extremely effective at forcing them to address it.

Have every reporter make their reports outside the White House next to the banned reporters. If the White House wants coverage, they either move everything outside or allow everyone inside.

There are definitely more effective ways to protest than simply “don’t cover them.”

Honestly, this close to the election? That's actually something the admin wants I think. Trump isn't even cognisant enough for his ego to notice.

This boycott could be cover/excuse for the networks to withdraw from reporting what they're up to.

Imagine if he gets assassinated and we miss it

Maybe watch some of these and call it even?

I found at least two good ones.

USA collectively turns its back on Tiny Dee—a beautiful dream come true!

So if I’m understanding right, the networks rotate who gets the coverage; today is CNNs turn in the rotation and in solidarity none of the other networks will fill in.

What I’m still not clear on, after reading the article, is if the rotation will continue as normal and coverage will only be missed on days a “banned” network is up, or if the other networks are also skipping coverage when their turn in the rotation is up.

Either way, the actual goal of censoring news from the White House is achieved... and in the case of this solidarity, the effect is even greater. Or am I misunderstanding something here?

/edit: Okay I actually misunderstood something: Its not about media coverage in total but about giving Trump a platform. This makes much more sense.

[–] MartianSands@sh.itjust.works 43 points 1 week ago

They'll still be reporting about the white house, they just won't be propping up trump's soapbox quite so much

[–] stoly@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

They just won't be asking Trump questions directly. Nothing else changes.

[–] stoly@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Does it change anything? They will still get the video feed and can react to it. It's just their reporters not being there at the moment to ask questions. Trump will still spout nonsense continuously.

[–] ChunkMcHorkle@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The networks also provide the audio tech:

Trump’s first live event on Monday with no TV press pool — a ribbon-cutting ceremony for his new helipad — was livestreamed to the White House website. However, Trump’s remarks were indiscernible throughout the video; the helicopter’s loud noise completely drowned out his voice.

[–] stoly@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

LOL I love that.

The major television networks are standing with CNN by declining to replace its White House pool crew after the Trump administration barred the network from fulfilling its assigned duties on Monday.

“The public has a vital interest in receiving accurate, independent information about its government. No administration should restrict a news organization because it objects to its reporting,” ABC, CBS, CNN, Fox News and NBC said in a rare joint statement.

[–] Atelopus-zeteki@fedia.io 6 points 1 week ago

Yay! Keep pushing!

[–] chahn.chris@piefed.social 19 points 1 week ago

Honestly, at this point, news media should be ignoring the White House and reporting on what it’s actually doing because all the words that come out of there are lies and propaganda. That’s not news, it shouldn’t be reported by serious news organizations.

[–] ChunkMcHorkle@lemmy.world 18 points 1 week ago

Stupid motherfucker didn't realize that away from the podium, it's not the White House providing the audio tech:

As part of pool coverage, each network takes a daily turn supplying a camera operator, an audio technician and a producer or reporter. While the technical crew records the president, the producer or reporter coordinates the live feed by phone, taking notes and asking questions.

Thus, as anyone could have told him would happen:

Trump’s first live event on Monday with no TV press pool — a ribbon-cutting ceremony for his new helipad — was livestreamed to the White House website. However, Trump’s remarks were indiscernible throughout the video; the helicopter’s loud noise completely drowned out his voice.

For someone to whom attention is mother's milk, this is possibly one of the biggest own goals imaginable: without a major network providing audio support, no one can hear anything he says now.

A normal president: *whew*, good. Some quiet finally.

This ‘predisent’:

[–] LibertyLizard@slrpnk.net 10 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Wow even Fox News. It's bizarre that the American right under Trump has gone so far from normal that Fox occupied kind of a center-right position in the media landscape now.

I think Focks nooz is seeing the future with this. If the orange pedo gets ousted and non-nazis retake the White House this sets precedent that people will fully realize how unbelievably full of shit they've been this whole time as a propaganda outlet and may get the boot along with their other propaganda-kin

[–] Snapz@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

American democracy has functionally been held hostage by a single demented criminal for over a decade.

[–] DeadEndLink@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Isn't CNN just a libertarian owned Zionist shit show now?

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 week ago

Yep! But when dementia sets in, the newer memories go before the old ones so Trump is thinking of the CNN of the 80s.

[–] mkwt@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Something to keep in mind is that the lawsuit to reverse this has already been filed, and it seems like a solid winner on first amendment viewpoint discrimination grounds. I think it's likely an injunction will come down pretty fast to restore the credentials.

[–] mkwt@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Update: the hearing on the proposed restraining order is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.

[–] bold_atlas@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

The one thing the main stream media will decidedly call out as unconstitutional...

It's like nobody in this country cares to have a strong opinion on any issue until it's an issue that directly affects them.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 week ago

Is he gonna start trying to rename the networks?

[–] bold_atlas@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

BTW isn't the timing a little bit suspicious? And they agree at the same time all together? Alleged "separate" companies with different oligarch owners? And not the hundred other times Trump fucked with a network?

So practically no more direct major network coverage on how they're stealing the election? Just Trump's truth social from here on out? Man isn't that strange that this is happening now...

Fox News boycotting Trump too? Oh, no. Yeah no way. Nope. Not buying it. This stinks of back room collaboration.

They're going to rat fuck us.

[–] ohulancutash@feddit.uk 5 points 1 week ago

None of that tin foil shit. This is about the pool, where the networks take turns on sending cameras to speeches and events in the WH so there arent a dozen crews fighting each other for angles.
