Amazingly people (not literally) rioted in Seattle over a soda tax until the city made it go away. I can't wrap my brain around that one.

My impression is that they had a problem of an economy that could not support the population at that time. Overpopulation vs underpopulation.

What's amazing here is that the people being hurt are the very wealthy. Those are the ones you don't want to piss off too much or they might put their money elsewhere.

There is probably truth to what you say but I will point out that people used to get pocket guides to carry around that explained how things worked in the target country and provided basic phrases for ordering in restaurants, saying thank you, and such.

The problem is that you don’t want to record important information like passwords so if they did log them, it’s another possible vector of loss. I e if someone got into that copy of the data
