I'm using netdata for now but for some reason it didn't notify me of this one.

Maybe it's well known but I just came across journalctl-desktop-notification and I find it very useful so I thought I'd mention it. It's basically a bash script that monitors systemd's journal and pops up a notification when there are warnings or errors (or anything else you want to make it catch besides the default config).

What makes it so useful for the selfhoster is that it can monitor the journal on hosts your user has ssh access to with key authentication (set up in 2s with 'ssh-copy-id').

So case in point, this just popped up:

My reverse proxy can't renew certs, that's bad. For some reason netdata didn't catch it, and the service didn't trigger a system email that would have been forwarded to my smtp. Uptime kuma would have caught it when I would have had only a few days to fix it, but this caught it immediately, and I have 52 days to figure it out.

So you install that on your daily driver and you get these notifications on your desktop. They only have packages for Arch and Gentoo but the thing is just a batch script and a systemd unit. So to install anywhere you just download the "source", extract it, cd to it, and run 'sudo cp -r usr etc /' which is exactly what the Arch package does (line 22).

Just a nifty little tool I wanted to share in case others haven't heard of it.

Schedule I. I did everything the game has to offer at the present moment but i still go back to spend an ingame day or 2 making silly drug mixes, selling, doing dumb stuff like pickpocketing cops... It's just pleasant.

The way Android Auto connects, your phone connects to bluetooth on the car, then they set up their own little WIFI between them. That's why it doesn't work on VPNs that don't allow split tunneling.

I agree installing it manually is really cool and the opposite of boring.

Yeah but what do you do when you have everything finally set up perfectly for you and everything runs beautifully ? 😭 There's only so many niche Waybar plugins I can write without filling my whole bar.

I mean forcing a reconnect to capture the handshake is exactly how I used to speed up WIFI cracking back in college. You would need that to break in a car's wifi in the time it's at a red light.

Where I'm from, France, it's not so bad I think. We have pretty strong privacy laws I feel. But now I'm in the US so yeah. I'm in cybersecurity so I see the difference with what employers are allowed to do. Also Flock cameras popping up everywhere. There are a couple near me that make me lose Android Auto's wifi everytime I drive by them so I'm thinking it's intercepting stuff.

Argh that was so useful in hotels. I'd take a little roku stick and poof.

Yep and then devs solved the problems of these damn IT sec people getting in the way and created "SecDevOps". Oh it's lean and Agile and everything but it's dev and sec and production all in the same bucket with all the well known problems of pushing things too fast and not checking or testing enough (see CloudFlare etc).

Personally the job search is taking all my energy and yeah im always too exhausted to do anything special. I'm not looking forward to Thanksgiving this year, I just want to apply to jobs and then be alone feeling sorry for myself when recruiters ghost me. Sorry if you're my friend, I'll be in a better mood to socialize when I don't stay up every night wondering if i'm going to be homeless next month. I'm guessing many people are probably in survival mode too right now.

Not just screenshots like hyprshot, but also recording videos of part of the screen. I used to use spectacle but there's no way without kwin.
