there is objective truth but the odds are one person was struck by omniscience and experienced it during a conflict and the other didn't isn't very high lol. so better to act as if all people experienced some form of truth through their own internal filtration system, validate any perceived harm, then move on to accountability from harm from actions there rather than fight about who is correct about their feelings.

It's also a way to deal with stopping black & white thinking and trying to look at reality in a more objective way (ironically). Instead of thinking "i'm late, i'm gonna be fired" you can be like, well two things are true at once, "i'm late and feeling anxious and guilty about it" and also "in the past, my boss has never once been concerned about being late". the feelings of anxiety and guilt are no less invalid, however they are not grounded in real danger.

Usually it's when liberals confronted with the fact that the US lies about its enemies all the time and that therefore we shouldn't trust what they say at face value. This response is truly abysmal since it completely misses the point which is that further investigation is needed, not that the US systematically says the opposite of the truth
