I mean, a salad spinner would do the same thing, but it wouldn't add the extra mop water flavor we all love.

[–] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 48 points 3 days ago (5 children)

I still don’t know how mop water always converges to the same flavour with repeated use, even in different environments.

Like, the mop in a commercial garage, your grocery store (unless it’s been used to clean up an oil spill), and in your basement all produce very similar tasting water.

You are joking but the dust in IT equipment almost always has a distinct smell in the same type of business (e.g. medical).

[–] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 1 points 22 hours ago

I’m not joking though!

Mop buckets are surprisingly homogeneous in smell across environments. With the exception of getting them filled with oil, which gets its own stale rancid smell, but that’s for other reasons.

Absolutely cursed comment. Thanks, I hate it.

[–] Remember_the_tooth@lemmy.world 15 points 3 days ago

This guy mops.

[–] DickFiasco@sh.itjust.works 8 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I'd like to subscribe to hear more mop facts please.

[–] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 13 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I don't really have mop facts, only flavour profiles.

[–] jdr@lemmy.ml 6 points 3 days ago

Fuckin' tease

[–] blimthepixie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 3 days ago (2 children)

What about a mop used in a bar?

[–] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 4 points 3 days ago

I’ve only extended bar mop when my friend threw up all over the bar and they made us clean it up.

She ate a bunch of fruit loops or something so it was like this weird strong sour fruity smell. Thinking about it makes me feel gross.

So I don’t know, but I’m pretty sure if not used to clean up fruit loops vomit it would be similar. I’ve used a lot of mops in a lot of places.

[–] okwhateverdude@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago (2 children)

You'd think it'd be more tangy what with all the dried piss on the floor in the men's, but no. It evens out still.

[–] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 5 points 3 days ago

Even bathroom mops tend to converge on that same flavour.

I did a stint as a grounds keeper at a theme park, so I’m familiar with mop water from bathrooms to back offices, to fast food floors, grocery stores, commercial garages, and office space. I even mopped a laser tag room — that one was epic, you have no idea how much stuff people lose while playing laser tag, I found two watches and tons of change, all sorts of stuff. Dusty as heck though.

As I mentioned elsewhere, no, I have not experienced bar mop water except one time when drunk, so not a fair sample.

Ok, whatever, dude.

[–] mappe@moplemmy.fyi 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

What do you have against mop water, punk?

[–] okwhateverdude@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

My good sir, I do believe you've mistaken my position for the obverse whereas I do indeed prefer the delectable flavor profile liberally applied to my noodly noms.

[–] mappe@moplemmy.fyi 52 points 3 days ago (3 children)

As somewhat of a mop enthusiast this is admittedly an area of functionality I had not previously considered.

[–] MelodiousFunk@slrpnk.net 40 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Instance name bizarrely checks out.

[–] mappe@moplemmy.fyi 34 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Well for some reason I couldn't find a mop-based Lemmy instance so I hosted my own.

[–] frank@sopuli.xyz 11 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Okay, I'll bite. Tell us more about mops.

[–] mappe@moplemmy.fyi 11 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Well when it comes to mop techniques it comes down to 2 standard motions, the figure 8 and the linear stroke technique. The technique used is determined by several factors: room size, mop type, and floor material. Now, when it comes to choosing a mop there are several more factors than just room size and floor material. Mop head material, handle type, mop style (standard, powered, steam, spin). Now, if you're looking for a good all around mop recommendation I would have to give it up to the O-Cedar EasyWring Microfiber Spin Mop, it excels in most mop related functions and should make the mopper in your life happy.

[–] chrisgpz@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Stanley Spadowski would be so proud of you.

Life is like a mop

[–] mappe@moplemmy.fyi 4 points 3 days ago

While I of course worship the mop itself he could be considered our Messiah. He showed us the way.

[–] smeenz@lemmy.nz 1 points 3 days ago

I'm hesitant to ask, but do you know anything about jackdaws?

[–] jdr@lemmy.ml 6 points 3 days ago

Mo plemmy, mo ploblems

[–] baatliwala@lemmy.world 22 points 3 days ago

First image I've seen that I want to be AI generated

[–] MrKiosc@reddthat.com 21 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I hate this and I hate you. Thank you

[–] gigastasio@sh.itjust.works 13 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Freeze the strained pasta water for use as decorative ice cubes for dinner.

[–] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 7 points 3 days ago

Okay but I unironically could see myself doing this to add starch to pasta sauces…

[–] ThePantser@sh.itjust.works 12 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I have the version with a water tank to rinse. Should be handy to hold the sauce.

[–] snoons@lemmy.ca 9 points 4 days ago

ohhh and then you can keep it in the fridge for extra spaghettiness for long time.

[–] tomi000@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Its supposed to be spinning in the second picture right? But how?

[–] Kimika@lemmy.world 10 points 3 days ago (1 children)

There is a pedal you step on repeatedly to make it spin and spin.

[–] tomi000@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

Ah I see, smart. I only know the kind where you press the mop down

[–] bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de 8 points 4 days ago

Just put it in the washing machine and let it spin. No need to use your own muscles.

[–] billwashere@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

Now I wanna use my salad spinner to do this.

[–] deacon@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

It genuinely does though gang. It’s a funny meme but it genuinely does.
