The Mandalorian and Grogu is fine. Not great. Certainly didn't feel like a blockbuster. But it is enjoyable. I'd compare it to a Muppets movie in scope and feel, but honestly Muppets movies incorporate some wicked humor that puts them a step above this. Still, I'm a Star Wars fan and I love getting more Star Wars stuff. Except Episode 9. That can fuck right off.

Moana, though? Moana was an incredible movie. Animation was the perfect medium. The songs and voice acting were great. How could "live action" improve on that?

Does anything look better or more interesting in any way in the live action version? There is literally no reason for this to exist. It looks worse in literally every way.

They should've saturated the fuck out of the film. It should be bright and colorful like they just invented color movies. That movie should look like someone recreated it out of skittles.

You could drop a still from The Dark Knight into that list and you wouldn't be able to tell without squinting. Is that Hei-hei, or is it The Scarecrow?

The Mandalorian should have never been a movie, it was fine being what it was.

Moana should have never been live action, Disney has gotten lazy and unimaginative over the last 10 or so years.

Almost all like 98% of their last 20 movies have been remakes or bad sequels. No surprise that no one is running to the theaters to see a movie they've already seen. No one asked for these movies.

"I promise, this will be the ~~last, oh wait this will be the last~~, maybe last Toy Story"

Do you know why I enjoyed the Mandalorian and Grogu? Because I didn’t expect much from it, so I was able to sit back and enjoy it. I didn’t expect an Oscar winning blockbuster, and I certainly didn’t get one. It was a cute and fun little romp. And that was it.

Itʻs a movie that continued to build on Favreauʻs basic idea behind The Mandalorian: itʻs the story a little brother comes up with when his big brother has taken all the main Star Wars action figures to play with his friends and left the little brother with all of the random aliens Kenner stuck in a blister card (but somehow the kid has a Boba Fett and Yoda). It really feels like the way I played as a kid, where Iʻd supplement my Star Wars figures with GI Joe and make stuff up. This film sometimes looks like a kid grabbed some Warhammer miniatures and flew them around with die-cast Star Wars miniatures, etc. Itʻs awesome when viewed in that light and not from some self-serious mindset that treats Star Wars as akin to a religious text.

I think that some fandoms get far too carried away with their expectations for something— setting them so high that it can never ever deliver, and they ruin it for themselves.

Edit: and as some other commentor demonstrates further down, a few people will even go so far as to try to ruin it for others

Agreed I didn't rush out to see it in theaters but have heard it described as just a longer episode of the show. I enjoyed the show but would expect a bit more out of this movie than 'just more of the same' but oh well. Gonna stream it eventually.

Yeah, I just downloaded it. Since I had nothing invested in it, I certainly didn’t feel like I lost anything.

nothing of note happens in the whole movie. no character development, no growth, no conflict with any serious stakes, no meaningful change to any character or faction. it was the most boring snoozefest movie ive watched in a long time. it wasnt even entertaining as a string of meaningless action set pieces because the action was such bland nothing. im honestly kind of offended youre claiming you enjoyed it. did the flashing lights give you the feel good chemicals, or did you just like seeing the cute baby move around some more? disney would really like to know.
