It sounds to me like you were posting pro Linux comments in a community called "Linux sucks".
Ye Power Trippin' Bastards
This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.
Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.
Posting Guidelines
All posts should follow this basic structure:
- Which mods/admins were being Power Tripping Bastards?
- What sanction did they impose (e.g. community ban, instance ban, removed comment)?
- Provide a screenshot of the relevant modlog entry (don’t de-obfuscate mod names).
- Provide a screenshot and explanation of the cause of the sanction (e.g. the post/comment that was removed, or got you banned).
- Explain why you think its unfair and how you would like the situation to be remedied.
Rules
- Post only about bans or other sanctions that you have received from a mod or admin.
- Don’t use private communications to prove your point. We can’t verify them and they can be faked easily.
- Don’t deobfuscate mod names from the modlog with admin powers.
- Don’t harass mods or brigade comms. Don’t word your posts in a way that would trigger such harassment and brigades.
- Do not downvote posts if you think they deserved it. Use the comment votes (see below) for that.
- You can post about power trippin’ in any social media, not just lemmy. Feel free to post about reddit or a forum etc.
- If you are the accused PTB, while you are welcome to respond, please do so within the relevant post.
- Keep the comments in YPTB posts about the moderation action itself, not about the general topic in which the moderation took place.
Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.
Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.
YPTB matrix channel: For real-time discussions about bastards or to appeal mod actions in YPTB itself.
Some acronyms you might see.
- PTB - Power-Tripping Bastard: The commenter agrees with you this was a PTB mod.
- YDI - You Deserved It: The commenter thinks you deserved that mod action.
- YDM new - You Deserved More: The commenter thinks you got off too lightly.
- BPR - Bait-Provoked Reaction: That mod probably overreacted in charged situation, or due to being baited.
- CLM - Clueless Mod: The mod probably just doesn't understand how their software works.
Relevant comms
Well, there's no acronym for this. We have CLM (clueless mod) for when a mod just doesn't know what the hell they're doing.
We need a CLU for when a user steps into a trap lol. Some accounts on the fediverse are known for some variety of fuckery or another, and it isn't really power tripping when one of those mods engages in their known form of fuckery. It's like buying a used Ford Pinto; yeah, you should be able to buy a car and expect it to behave like a car should. But most people know you just don't buy one unless you're looking for trouble; so only noobs and the terminally unconcerned will buy one.
Linux sucks is a known troll community, run by a known troll. But there's no sticker on the window to tell people that. So if you aren't a lemmizen that's been around for a while, it's easy to get suckered in.
That being said, there is also a tiny bit of YDI here as well. If the community wasn't a troll, you did go into a community named "Linux sucks" and try to post about something other than Linux sucking. It would be like coming here to praise some user that made a great post; nothing wrong with the content, but it just ain't the place.
Sure, known by a vast majority of fediverse users, but OP's account is 5 days old. Id guess it's news to him.
Yeah, this is pretty funny. The Fediverse is a broad enough church for there to be troll communities, like if there was a groucho sub that banned literally everybody.
I'd say the mod takes it too seriously for it to be a troll community. It certainly is a trap, whatever that means.
I'm not exactly clueless. My .zip account is new but I've been browsing for a while.
Background is, I had already seen some memes from that community, didn't think much of it except "that's unusual for lemmy but whatever".
But more notable, I had read OP's opinion earlier that "real gamers play on Windows" on a post from another com. Whatever "real gamers" means.
So I decided to answer that post that poped up on my all feed and that's all. I had no idea the com was so strict, and OP was the mod, and that saying windows has been shittier than linux for me lately is being a "Linux Evangelist". But cool, I guess I found myself a new label.
Yes, they're the mod. The rules are very clear that they don't want anything posted about Linux in a positive light. That's fine. I just found it funny that they seem to be the only one I saw posting anti-Linux stuff all the time in my feed, and it got so dumb I just blocked the whole community. That's the great thing about not only federation, but just having separate communities. You can choose to not see it. Let them have fun. I guess they have some point to all of it, seems a lot of work to not get anything out of it from other OS companies.
Same with blocking. I thought at first that it would be a light-hearted, semi-legit type of "linux bad bc...." type of comm, but instead it's asinine and beyond nonsensical.
Yeah, the mod there doesn't want ANY discussion about the flaws of windows. I got banned on my first comment there. My life is better without that community
As far as I know that community is single-handedly moderated, and almost-single-handedly posted to. I also respect their grind and commitment.
I also respect their grind and commitment.
I don't. They're a dipshit screaming into the void.
It would be a void if people stopped feeding this pathetic troll.
Do you also eat the onion?
If they're doing a bit, it's too mean-spirited to be a good one.
You should go tell them that, maybe they will take it to heart.
Like the conservatives community. Haha.
This has been enlightening for me. I see the community pop up when I browse "All". Every post seems to be negative in the votes.
I thought it was supposed to be satirical but I never saw it. It just seemed like a pointless community to me and I never thought about it until I saw this post.
If the founder/moderator want to spend their time doing this, fine. That's the point of the fediverse. For me, though, it's a community that I'll avoid.
You stomped into the sty and now you're surprised you've got shit on your shoes? Let it go. YDI
It’s a troll comm. Shame they’re so quick to ban. They amuse me. I don’t interact with them because I want to see their trolling. Or rather, I don’t mind.
Edit: Just tried searching for it, it doesn't come up. Maybe they blocked me? Weird because I never interacted with them (AFAIK). Not too bothered, I think it's a case of the trash taking itself out, if true. I just didn't mind them so much. Oh well.
Though, I am a bit annoyed with the Linux crowd coming into every discussion saying "just install Linux!". If I had a PC, I would... but I have a Mac, and Linux on ARM64 is getting there, but I don't think it's quite there just yet. And I like what I have. I would like to get an old HP/Dell at some point and run a Linux server, though. I think that would be fun. But as a daily driver? Meh. I could, I just don't want to.
I mean if I were a mod I'd drop the hammer for the juvenile "Windoz".
lol this person complains constantly about how hostile Linux users are. meanwhile their whole personality seems to be based upon finding people talking about Linux so they can be an asshole.
then there's this:
Atheist critical of the Abrahamic dick skinning death cult
I don’t know why admins allow troll communities to persist, when all they do is create more hassle for them. At least there aren’t very many of these.
Nevermind, just saw the mod's post on Edward Snowden, they are just a huge POS.
Gotta admit, i kinda love "LiGNUts". It barely works as an insult, and just kinda sounds adorable. I am a LiGNUt!
I was banned on an account for saying insulting the people using linux is mean independently of your opinion about the OS. Then they say linux is a cult with some AI art.
I wonder what they’ll think of this post
xD
You are begging for it.
😈
They loved it! xD
I know, ew, and so did a lot of others... I did reply to one comment with an "at least it's not windows" to stir the shit a little ;)
:(
edit: the comment was "at least it's not windows, lol"

they left the post, however! they even commented upon it, in their own, spiteful and petty way, that violates their own Rule 2 (I'm going to report it for Rule 2 violation, and see what happens, lol)
edit 2: they heavily edited their own comment before deleting mine... lol, how very conscientious of them....
Chef's kiss
Now with BSD.
uh macOS is a derivation from BSD???? reading your comment I mean. Also wasn't macOS unixlike and not unix or something?
macOS has always been a BSD distro. macOS (and Mac OS X before it) is rebranded NeXTSTEP— the only thing of real value to come out of NeXT, Inc, other than Objective-C and Steve Jobs. Oh, and Jonny Ive, of course.
The original Macintosh System Software 1 - 9 was not, but ever since Apple acquired NeXT, Inc… NeXTSTEP (a variant of BSD) was adapted to become Mac OS X (RIP Rhapsody), and when Mac OS X debuted, it was BSD all the way and has been ever since.
Thanks to Apple, via Mac OS X, now macOS, BSD is now 1/3 of the consumer operating system base in North America. 😊
And when they’re tired of paying for overpriced hardware? They’re not going back to windows… as much as you may hate Apple… That’s a long-term win for *nix.
Lemmy sure captures the spirit of the old web with random cranks who insist on dying on the weirdest hills lol
