This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.
Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.
Posting Guidelines
All posts should follow this basic structure:
- Which mods/admins were being Power Tripping Bastards?
- What sanction did they impose (e.g. community ban, instance ban, removed comment)?
- Provide a screenshot of the relevant modlog entry (don’t de-obfuscate mod names).
- Provide a screenshot and explanation of the cause of the sanction (e.g. the post/comment that was removed, or got you banned).
- Explain why you think its unfair and how you would like the situation to be remedied.
Rules
- Post only about bans or other sanctions that you have received from a mod or admin.
- Don’t use private communications to prove your point. We can’t verify them and they can be faked easily.
- Don’t deobfuscate mod names from the modlog with admin powers.
- Don’t harass mods or brigade comms. Don’t word your posts in a way that would trigger such harassment and brigades.
- Do not downvote posts if you think they deserved it. Use the comment votes (see below) for that.
- You can post about power trippin’ in any social media, not just lemmy. Feel free to post about reddit or a forum etc.
- If you are the accused PTB, while you are welcome to respond, please do so within the relevant post.
- Keep the comments in YPTB posts about the moderation action itself, not about the general topic in which the moderation took place.
Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.
Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.
YPTB matrix channel: For real-time discussions about bastards or to appeal mod actions in YPTB itself.
Some acronyms you might see.
- PTB - Power-Tripping Bastard: The commenter agrees with you this was a PTB mod.
- YDI - You Deserved It: The commenter thinks you deserved that mod action.
- YDM new - You Deserved More: The commenter thinks you got off too lightly.
- BPR - Bait-Provoked Reaction: That mod probably overreacted in charged situation, or due to being baited.
- CLM - Clueless Mod: The mod probably just doesn't understand how their software works.

It sounds to me like you were posting pro Linux comments in a community called "Linux sucks".
I don’t think we need Poirot to solve this one.
Echo chambers are bad
agree. But mod decides what is appropriate for their group. even if they don't hear any echoes because they are alone.
Mods don't need to decide this. That's what voting is for. Moderation should be reserved for harmful or abusive behavior that damages a community or user in the short time before voting solves the issue.
Well, in the absence of a higher power, such consensus-based practices are just your opinion about how things should be. This mod has been behaving like this for at least a year to my knowledge. I just avoid them.

Not all voters are going to be community members. Lemmy has a large Linux fanboy contingent. Do they get to decide what communities are or are not allowed to exist in the fediverse?
Let's say that someone wants to make a community to post cute dog pictures. They create a rule that all posts must be photos of dogs. Someone comes along, does not read the rules, decides that a kitten is just as cute as a puppy, and starts posting cat pics. People browsing the new posts feed are not going to be paying much attention to community names, see a cute animal photo, and upvote it. The few dog die-hards downvote the posts, but not enough to get the score into the negatives. Are you saying the mod does not have a right to delete the photos for going against the spirit of the community?
Sure. If people want dogs and cats together what's wrong with that?
If you want to run a forum as your private fiefdom then go do it somewhere private. Or maybe you should just write a blog if you just want people to read your opinions. Putting your community on the fediverse or other public platforms is by definition inviting the userbase to interact with, create, and curate your community. At that point it's not your private creation anymore and it's unreasonable to treat it that way.
I think you are missing the point about all/new.
IMO this is more about the desires of the community members than the mod themselves.
In the example above. The community only wants dog photos. The larger Lemmy community browsing all/new upvotes shouldn't override the rules of the community itself. On Lemmy, communities decide rules, not mods.
Then I can get called out, proven wrong, open a discussion instead of being permabanned? I dunno.
Your comment clearly broke their rules though. I don't agree with their rules but did you seriously expect a constructive dialog? It's like getting mad at the tennis club because they don't want to play golf with you.
Less tennis and more the anti-golf homeowners federation whose windows have gotten smashed in a couple times too much.
I don't think that is the platform for that discussion. You can start a community for it if you want though. Call it "LinuxVsWindoz"
