$2.5 m for a private jet seems really low

Probably a piece of shit

[–] schema@lemmy.world 12 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

A criminal living in a jail? Truly revolutionary stuff

[–] REDACTED@infosec.pub 1 points 1 hour ago (2 children)

With a cop in the same cell? Probably not very common, but seeing that this is show with cameras around, I don't expect anything genuine

[–] moopet@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 hour ago

Every cop is a criminal, and all the sinners saints.

[–] Gumus@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 hour ago

No, the cop is the criminal

Completely out of the loop:

Who's Mr Beast, what does he do, why should I know him?

What does it mean "I have"? What does he have? A new type of game show? A movie, book, play, game?

Is this real or satire?

Being serious:

  • started as a YouTuber that did trend videos like "I did the latest trend, but did it BIGGER"
  • figured out a (very exploitative) formula for maximising viewer retention whilst getting as many sponsorship deals into a video as possible
  • Became the first YouTube Millionaire
  • Started amping up this formula by making the challenges shocking and attention grabbing, such as "I PUT 10 PEOPLE IN AN UNLOCKED HOTEL ROOM, LAST TO LEAVE GETS $5 MILLION"
  • realised he could wash his terrible reputation by occasionally releasing a charity video instead, kept it being exploitative though, his most famous example was "I CURED THE BLINDNESS OF 100 PEOPLE" (all blind because they had treatable, easily, diseases but American Healthcare is so exploitative they couldn't afford to get the treatment)
  • Managed to get a TV series called "Beast Games" that's this but TV

He's basically everything wrong with YouTube rolled into one person

[–] Karmanopoly@lemmy.world 2 points 8 minutes ago

You didn't even mention his terrible chocolate and candy

[–] moopet@sh.itjust.works 2 points 59 minutes ago

I have only vague knowledge, but I think it's real. He's a twat that a huge number of kids look up to, who is essentially the end boss of capitalistic decay.

[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 7 points 2 hours ago

That is Lucifer, the great beast, the biblical devil. Hence "Mr Beast". He revealed himself to humanity in the mid 2010s, expecting to incite the apocalypse. But everyone was already pretty shook at the general state of the world, so nobody cared. He still tries to shock the world with diabolical stunts, but he really just can't compete with politicians and billionaires.

[–] architect@thelemmy.club 1 points 1 hour ago

You’re lucky.

[–] dev_null@lemmy.ml 5 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago) (2 children)

He's a YouTuber who does "game shows" with concepts like in this post. The tweet might be fake though, OP didn't post a link.

[–] draco_aeneus@mander.xyz 4 points 1 hour ago

Note, he's not just 'a YouTuber', he is currently the most popular one by quite a margin.

Note that this doesn't mean his content is good or worthwhile.

[–] HairyHarry@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

Thanks! This post confused me quite a lot.

[–] VitoRobles@lemmy.today 58 points 6 hours ago (10 children)

This guy has half a dozen people locked up for "content". Is anyone else seeing how this is hugely problematic?

Why any of these? I am confused. Seems like anyone living in a gym and being paid money would lose weight. They all sound pretty stupid.

[–] dev_null@lemmy.ml 5 points 2 hours ago

Because it's not supposed to make sense as a game concept. It's just supposed to generate a video that will get clicks. That it doesn't make sense for the actual contestant isn't a factor.

[–] FinalRemix@lemmy.world 20 points 4 hours ago

Jimmy is a fucking idiot. See any of the behind the scenes stuff and weird attempts at making Beast Games work. No planning, no actual experience with logistics, game design, filming, editing, etc.

He's just some schmuck with money, and people keep giving him more.

[–] SkunkWorkz@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago

They gonna give the contestants challenge and set them up to fail by mentally torturing them.

[–] blitzen@lemmy.ca 81 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago) (6 children)

If Mr Beast was twenty years older, he would’ve been the one paying bums to fight.

All of these are just working people being toyed with by the rich for their entertainment and profit

[–] unmagical@lemmy.ml 54 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Dude literally watched Squid Game and said that shit would be better if it were real then set out and did it.

[–] BlaestEgnen@feddit.dk 5 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

But for 5k a day.. Yeah, I'd waste three months of my life for that kind of money

[–] mildseason@sopuli.xyz 5 points 1 hour ago

Of course you would. I probably would too. It's life changing money. But the morality of these 'challenges' is extremely fucked. And $5k a day is pocket change to Mr Beast who makes $1.6 million a day 🤮
