They took my app dammit. Twice actually, I'd been on alien blue. I'd rather put up with you people than their awful app

[–] Noodle07@lemmy.world 2 points 52 minutes ago

I still have RiF installed 🀷

[–] NocturnalMorning@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

I used the Reddit is Fun app lmfor like 15 years. The second they took that away I was gone.

[–] LaunchesKayaks@lemmy.world 2 points 43 minutes ago

Same. Rif was the only good way to browse reddit on mobile imo

[–] Toga77@lemmy.world 8 points 7 hours ago (2 children)

I was device and IP banned for saying Americans needed to have the Guillotines in the streets.

I stand by what I said lol.

Lmao well played

[–] HrabiaVulpes@europe.pub 3 points 7 hours ago

Bottom left. I was curious.

Turns out I just found a second reddit, and it's occasionally good!

[–] FukOui@lemmy.zip 2 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago)

6/9 also the algorithm change in r/popular was the most damning. Reddit says that ICE is suddenly cool?

[–] Nangijala@feddit.dk 2 points 7 hours ago

Trump threatened greenland, had all the tech bros at his inauguration and one of them was high on ketamine and heiling, so I figured it was time to leave as many American social media platforms as possible.

The only one I still use is youtube and that's in a logged out state and in a browser.

Can't say I miss Facebook, Instagram and reddit. It's been over a year and I barely think about it nowadays.

I have my issues with Lemmy, but you can filter out most of the bs so at this point it's mostly memes, animal fotography and other wholesome stuff that's left in my feed. Life is good.

For the vast majority of Fediverse users, it was either Elon Musk's announcement in February, 2022, to buy out Twitter, or Elon Musk's actual Twitter buyout in October, 2022.

Followed by a tweet that must have looked something like this:

join mastodon its literally twitter without musk https://mastodon.social/

As for me, I joined the Fediverse long before there was Lemmy, long before there was even Mastodon, even before it was named Fediverse. I stumbled upon a free, open-source, self-hostable alternative to Facebook that even had features beyond Facebook.

Wow, 9 reasons on the card, and none of them are "rampant bigotry and bootlicker propaganda being pushed to the top page on a daily basis"

[–] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 1 points 7 hours ago

Reddit became too stale for me after a while. Sometimes I still post memes there or look up something, but otherwise my main way of getting information became kbin, later Lemmy once Ernest disappeared, though it was helped by Xitter also becoming an unreliable astroturfed garbage with CSAM generator integrated.

[–] abc@suppo.fi 1 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago)

\ BINGO \

Let me assure you though that it's entirely possible to get banned from Lemmy as well. Not quite as permanently though, but still.

[–] Hundun@beehaw.org 1 points 9 hours ago (2 children)

Ppl are less insufferable here. Aside from an occasional tankie or Xi bot trying to convince me that having the same ruler for 15 years is good for you actually, we're vibin'

[–] skisnow@lemmy.ca 2 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago) (1 children)

I hear this a lot but never see it. Not entirely sure how the whole thing works but I think you'd be happier on an instance like the one I'm on, where they've blocked the instance(s) hosting the worst of what you describe whilst still promoting a healthy amount of progressive/socialist values.

[–] Hundun@beehaw.org 1 points 6 hours ago

Thanks for the recommendation, I'll consider

[–] Avicenna@programming.dev 2 points 8 hours ago

15 years? I like your optimism. They were last seen discussing how to extend human life beyond 150 by organ transplants.

[–] DamienGramatacus@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Third party apps did it for me and most of us with accounts around 3 years old.

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 3 points 17 hours ago

One thing that sucks about switching servers is that you reset your bragging rights.

Same. That's when my original account was created here.

[–] Sirius006@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 day ago

Fuck ****.

I know I don't have to censor things on Lemmy, but I don't want to be rude anyway.

Shouldnt the top middle be the free space?

If I must visit Reddit for things like PC troubleshooting, I just avoid Reddit with a 10 foot RedLib sized pole and browse it that way.

Bonus points if you use Libredirect so it does this automatically for Reddit links :)

RiF was the main way that I used to browse your site, and if you take away the only way I can view it, then I'm gone! I refuse to support such a shitty company who screwed over the very same people who made their site big in the first place. I bet a ton of OG reddit users were using those "third party apps" too.

[–] diaphragmwp@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 36 minutes ago

Markdown links without the protocol are interpreted as post IDs, as it turns out. There's no post ID "redlib.catsarch.com".

Mine isn't there as an option, the internet was designed and built to be a free and open decentralised place. power, data, and control over the internet shouldnt be concentrated in a small number of corporations or governments. Instead, infrastructure, identity, content, and money should be spread across many independent nodes that no single entity controls. The fediverse is the return to what the internet always has been and always will be, just there was a small blip over the last decade or so where we lost our way.

You don’t have one for β€œLongtime lurker who used reddit for their daily dose of catching-up-with-the-world but found that the r/all was increasingly showing reality tv discussion subs that they had no interest in”.

[–] Goforce5@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Yeah, they finally just killed r/all completely, which is why I'm here. I fucking hate how reddit became this corporate cesspool. It used to be just a regular cesspool with some content I liked.

We are all kind of tech hippies here, right? Isn't that kinda important?

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 1 points 17 hours ago

That's because the far-right instances are defederated with us. It's a feature!

I didn't get a bingo, but;

  • Fuck Spez (obviously)
  • Bots and AI (loathing both, even and especially the constant automoderator spam)
  • try something new (and it's going well!)
[–] reallykindasorta@slrpnk.net 23 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The API change and the general tone they took towards the community when they implemented it.

[–] Aneb@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Thats technically the first box, when Reddit walled off their API to third party vendors all the good apps were killed... kinda. I'm still using Boost, they use to proxy for Reddit but now they implemented Lemmy for the past 4 years.

[–] Wataba@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Does wishing death on Elon Musk and Trump count as a good reason, or a 'good' reason?

none of these say anything about moving due to privacy concerns and I feel like thats a huge market here.

[–] 0ops@piefed.zip 24 points 1 day ago

Tbf, the fediverse isn't private at all and holds no pretense that it is. Yeah your instance isn't selling your data or doing the creepy profile-mapping that meta does, but it's important to be aware that this is very much a public forum

Top left for me. It was the clear sign I needed to see that Reddit was on the fast entshitification route.

I guess I'm neutral good. Wait, is this not an alignment chart?

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 1 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

It's a Nolan chart, tankie.

[–] zod000@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 4 hours ago

Why exactly am I a "tankie"?

[–] jupyter_rain@discuss.tchncs.de 26 points 1 day ago (4 children)

Column 1 straight down Team!
