You don't want plecos for algae. They get very big and very, uh, omnivorous. They need a lot of protein as they grow, and will often get it by preying on other fish.

Now, otocinclus? Unleash a school of those lil guys and they will fucking go to town. Siamese algae eaters are great, too.

This lady knows her fish (I assume). I love learning new animal stuff.

Edit: in case anyone else wants to see:

Can you get enough of these that they shimmer in the water? Like imagine that in a big shallow place like the reflecting pool, little sparkles of fishes.

Thanks! I used to be a bit of an enthusiast, especially with coldwater aquarium fish, and at one point African cichlids.

Can you get enough of these that they shimmer in the water?

Probably not with bottom feeders, but white cloud mountain minnows are a freshwater schooling fish that could probably pull that off. They're also tolerant of colder water temperatures, so they'd be appropriate as a pond fish in an area like DC, at least in the warmer months.

[–] LeeeroooyJeeenkiiins@hexbear.net 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

in googling this i found out that the damn thing is like, only 1-2 feet deep???

[–] LeeeroooyJeeenkiiins@hexbear.net 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

The more i learn about this the more it seems like Trump and his Guys aren't handling it well, but the entire thing seems to have been poorly designed from the get go

[–] buckykat@hexbear.net 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It's been there since 1922 and nobody has cared what color it is until Trump started making a big deal about it.

[–] infuziSporg@hexbear.net 7 points 2 weeks ago

Correct me if I'm wrong but the point of it was the reflection and not the water's color.

[–] Carl@hexbear.net 8 points 2 weeks ago

this is exactly how I kept my goldfish tank from getting cloudy when i was a kid

giant koi (and other fish) pond > organically dead reflecting pool

[–] j_elgato@leminal.space 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

... Wait, you want the Trump administration to give us MORE scum sucking bottomfeeders??

[–] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 8 points 2 weeks ago

[–] chgxvjh@hexbear.net 5 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Yes let's turn it into a pool full of algae AND fishies belly up.

[–] peanutbuttercupola@hexbear.net 4 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Last time I tried to put fish in the reflecting pool the national guard got mad at me doggirl-gloom
