Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.

Rules
  1. 😇 Be Nice!

    • Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
  2. 🏘️ Community Standards

    • Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
    • Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
    • Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
    • Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
  3. 🧬 Keep it Real

    • Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
  4. 📽️ Credit Where Credit is Due

    • Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
    • Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
  5. 📋 Post Formatting

    • Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
    • Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
    • When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
      ✅ Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
      ❌ Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
  6. 📬 Post Frequency/SPAM

    • Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 🖐) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 🖐) will be removed.
  7. 🏴‍☠️ Internationalization (i18n)

    • Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
      Sí, por favor [Spanish/Español]
  8. 🍿 Moderation

    • We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
    • When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Banned Artists

The following artists are banned from the community.

  1. Jago
  2. Stonetoss

It should be noted that when you make reports, it is your responsibility to provide rational reasoning why something should be removed. Saying it simply breaks community rules is not always good enough.

Web Accessibility

Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.

When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:

Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)

Nah. You're getting non-stop Casiopea

I've been on a Babymetal kick lately, so theyre getting j-pop girls singing metal or they can go home.

[–] devfuuu@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You're going to listen to nightcore and symphonic metal and like it.

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Wait for it...you've gotta hear the guitar solo reprise at the end...

[–] AzuranAurora@piefed.ca 60 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Fuck social music, you're getting ska punk and power metal or you're getting silence. My speaker, my rules.

[–] RampantParanoia2365@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Driver picks the music, shotgun shuts his cakehole.

[–] Shindo66@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Were just going to listen to the entire less than jake discography...

[–] JennaR8r@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I vote for silent disco. Everyone listens to whatever they want in their own ears. If you want to talk to someone, take off your headphones.

[–] X@piefed.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I’m in. I’ll be over in the corner dancing with the corner.

[–] zedgeist@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (2 children)

After a while of the corner not dancing with you, doesn't it get awkward? Or does the peyote help with that?

[–] X@piefed.world 3 points 1 day ago

Well, if it ever happens, I’ll try to remember to let you know!

[–] Axolotl_cpp@feddit.it 1 points 1 day ago

If the corner doesn't dance with ya, then skill issue

[–] brown567@sh.itjust.works 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Nah, they getting my "Music for getting turned into a bug" playlist

[–] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (2 children)

You don't drop a title like that without some elaboration.

[–] brown567@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

It used to be called "Real bug hours", featured a lot of Cosmo Sheldrake.

I got the idea when I first listened to Come Along and had a vivid image of a marching band of beetles pop into my head (very impressive as I have nearly complete aphantasia).

The playlist was either supposed to be good to listen to if you ever turn into a bug, or it was supposed to turn you into a bug, I was never quite sure which

It unfortunately was on my Spotify account which I have since deleted. Maybe I'll rebuild it XD

Edit: the song that inspired it was actually Wriggle, but Come Along was also a pretty early addition to the list

[–] brsrklf@jlai.lu 2 points 1 day ago

Alternate playlist title : "One morning, upon waking from agitated dreams, I find myself, in bed, transformed into a monstrous vermin".

[–] orenj@leminal.space 1 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 23 hours ago)

i can't stop listening to the mewgenics soundtrack but how do you even broach that topic with friends 'yeah i'm gonna listen to some video game music. it's also about cats. and eugenics.' i usually just lie and say i'm listening to sewerslvt in my headphones instead

[–] kaklerbitmap@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Guests? It's Merzbow time

[–] Impractical_Island@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I listen mostly to fart noises and remixed fart noises, so this comic resonates with me on a higher level.

[–] v4ld1z@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I like this new generation of music!

I love that “bedroom project” is effectively its own genre, with subgenres from “bedroom pop” to “one-man bedroom atmoblack”.

[–] Gork@sopuli.xyz 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Time to put on the smoothest of jazz that accompanies 90s pornos

Unless it's a porno party that's just like macaroni without the cheese though.

[–] FishFace@piefed.social 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

My partner complains all my music sends people to sleep. Well fuck you, maybe I want everyone to have a nice nap time?? Sounds like a great party to me!

[–] SethTaylor@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Hell yea! Be the life and soul of the slumber party!

[–] sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Fela Kuti - Zombie.

I propose this as anti-coworker-music; for maybe 70+% of them, they'll be amazed or impressed if they've never heard it before

Its obviously old school, but its also obviously incredible, is energetic, has a solid driving rhythm and melody, and at least parts of the lyrics are simple enough you can sing along or they may get stuck in your head.

But its not offensively noisey/distortiony or sappy or whiney.

Then you also tell people the backstory behind the song and album, if they ask about it, which is basically equally incredible.

[–] schipelblorp@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

I've always worked with people that have literal seizures if they haven't already heard a song at least seventeen thousand times before. This might cause severe cerebral hemorraging.

[–] sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 day ago

I'm sorry your coworkers have terminal NPC-itis.

I will make sure to press X to pay respect.

SrGrafo comics are one thing I miss from Reddit. He had a good thing going there.

[–] roserose56@lemmy.zip 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They get to hear uplifting trance. Learn to accept they don't always say, so....

I'm putting my playlist on shuffle and if that means we're talking while listening to the Buck Bumble theme, then so be it. I ain't compromising on music.

[–] SharkWeek@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I keep meaning to put together an anti-social playlist for when I'm in impolite company. Fill it with songs about doing illegal and immoral things ...

Start with the Murderdolls 'I Take Drugs', on to Halestorm 'Do Not Disturb' and then you're all warmed up for something off the first Bodycount album :-)

Hindi film music it is. "Who is this Johnny Jonnam guy she keeps singing about?"

[–] CustardFist@feddit.nl 2 points 1 day ago

As you should. 😌

Otherwise, you’d get 4 hours of non-stop ‘The Gonk’ by Herbert Chappell when you’re at my place.

[–] 9point6@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Put some tunes you like on, invite others to put stuff on too if they like

Everyone is a winner

[–] SharkWeek@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

And that's how I ended up listening to Sepultura at a house party of non-metalheads ... some people don't understand the idea that music is sometimes just there to fill in the gaps whole people are being social.

I say this as an autist, who likes Sepultura - even I knew it was not a cool thing to do.

[–] Harvey656@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

If they don't want to listen to refuse/resist on repeat for 4 hours, they came to the wrong house.

[–] SharkWeek@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 day ago

You get to set the mood in your own house ... but not other people's. Even I'm not that socially dense.

Refuse / Resist is a banger, though :-)

[–] gibmiser@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Ooo have i made you guys listen to Barkley shut up and jam gaiden theme ? Omg you're gonna love it, it's from this game...

All fun and games until they realise that Wars of Armageddon has a 10 minute run time.

That said, no one has complained about PJ Harvey yet.

[–] Caesium@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

some of my favorite songs are 10+ minutes. Though post-rock does tend to get pretty lengthy.

people are gonna sit through my long songs and they're gonna like them

[–] Semjeza@fedinsfw.app 1 points 19 hours ago

No shade on long songs, but when a good 3 to 5 mins are quite dissonant and with bizzare snippets of lyrics it tends to get called out by people who haven't listened to Maggot Brain all the way through before.
