Rightwing commentator says she is hundreds of thousands of dollars out of pocket and claims she was misled by promoter Rocksman

None of the 15,000 ticket holders for conservative influencer Candace Owens’ cancelled Australian tour are expected to get their money back from the promoter, after it spent all its money then collapsed.

Owens herself says she is hundreds of thousands of dollars out of pocket and claims she was misled by the promoter, Rocksman, a company with links to the influential conservative lobby group Turning Point Australia.

Rocksman collapsed with just 21 Australian cents in its bank account and will never refund Owens, her Australian ticket holders or other creditors, according to its liquidator’s statutory report to creditors, filed with Asic and dated 3 March.

Owens is a rightwing commentator who has since had a public falling out with Donald Trump.

The grifter party grifted its own members? Shocker!

[–] AmbitiousProcess@piefed.social 74 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Her 2024 Australian tour was delayed then cancelled after the Australian government refused to give her a visa as she had the “capacity to incite discord”, a decision the high court backed in October.

lmao

Which is funny considering that all that conservatism was seeded by Fox News, a company owned by an Australian.

[–] lolrightythen@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

Makes me think if the Murdoch's wanted her there, she'd be allowed.

She's just unintended waste byproduct.

As an Aussie: Hahahahah fuck those cunts.

[–] Alexstarfire@lemmy.world 21 points 1 month ago (1 children)

As a non-aussie reading this sentence:

[–] TheLowestStone@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Its OK. It means something different there. It's basically takes the place of most punctuation and some nouns.

[–] Alexstarfire@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

I know, but it's still funny.

[–] ZeroCool@piefed.ca 58 points 1 month ago

A grifter got grifted by grifters. hahaha I love that for her.

[–] BillyClark@piefed.social 33 points 1 month ago (2 children)

She wants to place the blame completely on Rocksman, but wasn't she the one who decided to work with a shady company instead of a legitimate one in the first place?

Also, she's out of pocket hundreds of thousands of dollars? This amount of money seems excessive to the point of absurdity. It's so high that it makes you feel like it's got to be a smokescreen. Like, that's exactly what you would expect her to say if this whole thing was her grift and she kept all of the money from ticket sales herself.

Hundreds of thousands of dollars seems a reasonable price for a multi-city speaking tour. Venue fees are expensive, considering the cost of the facility and the staffing, plus room and board for the people actually on the tour.

[–] plyth@feddit.org 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Venue fees are expensive

That must be where half of Rocksman's money went while the other half seems to be reclaimable.

Owens however paid for challenging her visa rejection which Rocksman promised to pay, but hasn't.

Edit: clarified.

Going to try a homemade veggie cheesesteak with protein curls..... bought a huge bulk box of soy protein curls and they soak up whatever flavor you give them.

Soaking the curls in mushroom stock then sauteeing in some kind of beefy sauce tbd. Sauteed green peppers and mushrooms, caramelized onions, melted provolone....and a mushroom au jus.

Much better use of free will than these fucking losers.

[–] LogicalDrivel@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Got a link for the protein curls? I need to stock up on bulk staples and was looking for these before.

[–] HumanOnEarth@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 month ago

I get then bulk from Yumasoy Foods but I'm in Canada.

[–] tanisnikana@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago

Oh no! Anyway,

[–] lechekaflan@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago

Rocksman collapsed with just 21 Australian cents in its bank account

Get fucked, you motherfuckers.

I don't even know who Candace Owens is and I'm okay with that.

[–] cheat700000007@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)

So what happens if a bunch of those people charge back credit cards?

[–] iglou@programming.dev 4 points 1 month ago

They should get their money back, as the trader's bank should be responsible

[–] treehugger6@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago

I have no sympathy for bigots paying to listen other bigots

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I wonder what that "promoter" did with all the money that "vanished".

He identified $385,000 worth of transactions that might be “unreasonable director-related transactions … in favour of a director, a close associate of the director or to a person on behalf of [either]”.

The company has debts with everyone (customers, government, talking head, sponsors), definitely a fraudulent bankruptcy. The director's name (George Zacharia) is unfortunately too common, I wish that I could have found some cringe social media that was definitely his. Damien Costas and his many bankruptcies are easy to find back. I wouldn't be surprised if Zacharia was a strawman for Costas.

Bought crypto, tumbled it, left the country. At least, that'd be the first thing to occur to me if I was looking at an account fat with the dollars of pea-brained right wing fucks.

Unlucky, dickheads.

[–] Lydon_Feen@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Could you please not jail the promoter, Australia?

This couldn't have happened to a nicer group of people.

[–] BeMoreCareful@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

She's been in a full blown feud with the Leader of Turning Point USA.

It looks like they've really sunglasses Turning Point..edly sunk Candice Owens

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 0 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Why was she even set to tour Australia in the first place? 🤔

[–] Linktank@lemmy.today 4 points 1 month ago

To steal all of that money, obviously!

[–] Bakkoda@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Grifters gonna grift
