I'm very proud to say that my first visit to the UK ever was during the turmulent Truss tenure. It was phenomenal, you folks know how to handle incompetence. I never thought I'd see a head of lettuce destroy a head of state, but the Brits know what they're doing.

My PI taught me I don't want a career in academia. Fuck that. Now I'm a capitalist slave :(
i heard it in other forums its pretty bad, you still a capitalist slave, but you do way too much. and getting a faculty position is pretty much difficult asf. almost every PROFESSOR i was in college with are all PISSY, strung out from stress having to deal with thier own lab, GRANT WRITING, teaching a class, ADVISING(which is the part they should not be doing)
If it's any consolation, neoliberalism has thoroughly fucked academia as well.
theres other problems besides politics, like faculty positions are very hard to get if a PHD wants one. and then theres the issue with the amount of stress to become a researcher at these universities, and your CV.

I've also heard principal investigator, but it's all the same. I think I've talked with mine once since I defended. I think that's for the best.
That usually means Physical Instructor and the meme made a lot of sense to me.
PIs are trained on science that is likely outdated by the time they become professors, rewarded to churn out as many grants as possible, and never given a day of managerial training. Switching to industry after my PhD was a breath of fresh air.
