It is remarkable that the “I did that” Biden sticker on gas pumps was one of the Big Things from Biden’s term, over a worrisome but not apocalyptic inflation rate. And now Trump is doing the specific worst thing possible for gas prices.

It's fine though because this time it's not woke!

Life comes at you fast.

All I’m saying is that a gentleman, a 60-year-old man, 59-year-old man, 75-year-old man, doesn’t need 37 gallons of gas.

I don’t think that a beautiful man needs — that’s 61 years old — needs to have 30 gallons of gas. I think they can have three gallons or four gallons because what we were doing with China was just unbelievable.

It's a reference to Trump's thing about how girls don't need 37 dolls and so inflation is fine.

30 gallons of gas? where are you planning to go with 15 gallons of gas?

it's one gallon of fuel, michael. what could it cost? ten dollars?

[–] Blakey@hexbear.net 10 points 2 days ago

Diesel is currently going for AUD$3.30 a litre in AU. I think that's just under USD$10- a gallon but not quiiite there yet. Give it time, though...

There are so many things that Trump AND Biden said where the proper response was "you're the fucking president!"

You're the fucking president, rising fuel costs in you're nation IS YOUR PROBLEM!

r/fuckCOMBUSTIONcars

so-far

(I've been riding a massive high over having a Chevy bolt the last month but I know that gas prices will cut into electric eventually anyways)

Nah, EVs are also a problem. You shouldn't listen to the assholes who say they're worse than ICE vehicles overall, but manufacturing a car is a dirty process, and EVs are to my knowledge much worse on that front. There's a reason we say "the cleanest car is the one you already have"; it may not be universally true but it's close enough to be used as a rule of thumb. We still need them in much of the world but we really, really need to make changing that a top priority.

Tire particle pollution and brake dust are problems regardless of powertrain. Worse, even, for EVs, due to their weight.

Also the environmental damage from paving roads in general.

Remember during :corona: everybody stopped driving and suddenly the skies above cities became clear? :sicko-wistful:

[–] DogThatWentGorp@hexbear.net 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yeah that's all true but I was just talking about happy I was not to be paying $6/gallon

[–] Blakey@hexbear.net 3 points 2 days ago

Totally fair!

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 14 points 2 days ago (1 children)

i'm an EV centrist but they do share a variety of shortcomings with ICE vehicles and aren't a societal level solution.

[–] Runcible@hexbear.net 6 points 2 days ago

yeah, car infrastructure and societal design around cars is just awful. Wouldn't be good even if you were using a Flintstones car
