Is it weird to like this? I feel like this would be hella comfortable. Does it have buttons on the side for the fingers? Because that would be cool as hell.

Yes there are buttons. Search for vertical mouse. Several companies make them.

A lot of people like them.

I used a vertical mouse for a while and found that it puts more strain on my shoulder and ended up going back. Your mileage may vary

You have to sit pretty strangely, like leaned back with your arm fully against your side so the weight of your forearm pushes into you rather than pulling on your shoulder. It does trade a LOT of hand strain for a slight bit of shoulder strain though.

I have the Logitech Lift which is quite comfortable to use. They also have a bigger one called the MX Vertical. But many people say it’s a bit too large for them so I bought the Lift since I don’t have big hands.

My girlfriend has a fused wrist. She started developing a lot of pain during/after work using a regular mouse. I got her the Lift, she's been using it for over a year and loves it. She did say it takes a bit getting used to it.

Ergonomic mice almost all look like this

I've got a vertical mouse and I love it. hell I had to use a regular one at work recently and it felt sooooo wrong to use. there's definitely an adjustment period in the beginning but humans are nothing if not adaptable. I recommend 100%

I thought it was a pencil sharpener

I used a vertically oriented mouse like that for a while when I had RSI. Also mapped mouse keys to the keyboard with autohotkey, just for variation. These days have a kensington 'expert mouse' trackball and on my laptop its the trackpad like everyone else.

Pretty sure this is an AI "improved" version of an old version

Or rather

I am continuously puzzled by the things people use this bullshit for

[–] Jestzer@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

As soon as I started my 9-5 job, my wrist started hurting. Fortunately, my workplace bought me some vertical mice and it’s all I needed. It took some getting used to and I can’t play FPSes with them, but I’m not playing those for 8 hours a day, so I just switch back when needed.

I'd want to get a finger trackball, but they're kind of expensive. Something like Kensington Orbit.

Recently I got a mouse. One with side scroll wheel, but just a normal one. I am honestly disappointed. First 2 days I found myself being less accurate with it than TrackPoint. And it also feels less comfortable to use.
It's only better if I have a second monitor to the side.

Also, I wish I could somehow get easily varying sensitivity. Say, the more I press, the slower it moves. Or even just such 2 speed selector. Maybe it would get hard to predict with that pressure idea.

God the buttons on that mouse are horrible. The scroll ring is nice, but not enough to keep it with the buttons like they are.

[–] captain_oni@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The orbit worked really well for me. I used my thumb for the left click, pinkie for the right, and the other 3 to better control the ball.

The only big complaint I have is the wrist rest they include: it's really hard, and comes off real easy.

[–] normonator@lemmy.ml 0 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The buttons are just shit quality. It's not about the position.

[–] captain_oni@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 month ago

Oh yeah, the buttons feel really cheap.

But I'll take those shitty buttons over any mouse with a scroll wheel. Fuck scroll wheels they break so easily.

Chevron seven locked

Get it out! Get it out! GET IT OUT!

[–] angrystego@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

This is a masterpiece. I immediately sent it to a colleague who's using the vertical kind of mouse.

[–] Grass@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 month ago

thanks for making me snort and cough tea all over my keyboard iguess

[–] MixOpossum@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 month ago

Finally, the real ergonomic vertical mouse!
