Goddamn. They produce tetrodotoxin in their skin glands. That's the same neurotoxin as puffer fish.

That yellow color probably scares birds away. All of the local predators are descendants of individuals who just happened to be scared of that color for some reason, and they were the only ones who didn’t eat the poison.
