As most of you know, I am from Palestine, and something I’ve been noticing recently is the coverage that a lot of brainless goofs are getting.

On the internet especially, but people shouldn’t pretend the internet is not part of our lives.

The main three people I am referring to here are Tucker Carlson, Prof Jiang, and John Kiriakou.

The least brainless here is the guy that worked for the CIA.

Who do you think is behind the coverage and visibility they are getting?

My parents have heard about those three and have seen videos.

John Kiriakou has an interview of him bragging about molesting a paraplegic mechanic.

The CIA has a meme department so that's that.

[–] shath@hexbear.net 18 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I can't find it right now, it was "Oussama Bin Laden's mechanic" but he was talking about taking off his prosthetic and teasing him about a big guy coming to molest him. he was laughing about it.

I've been trying to find the exact video but I only saw it while doom scrolling so I couldn't find it

I heard on Chapo yesterday that because Tucker is apparently the most prominent voice out there against the war, I have to be supportive of him shrug-outta-hecks guess I’ll just die then

[–] stink@lemmygrad.ml 9 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Not gonna lie, Tucker is outflanking most people on the left in regards to Palestine.

Call it what you want, opportunism or whatever, but he has been vocal on the genocide in Gaza and has been against the Iran war even before the US first bombed them.

When he says shit about "israel" he doesn't do the western liberal / leftist (they're the same thing) wishy-washy, both-sides, "this is bad for 'israel' and I'm gonna mention the deaths of Palestinians in passing".

Sooooo many "pro-Palestine" "progressive" fucks, whose voices are amplified, are just liberal zionists. Like that one failed politician, Kat Abughazleh, promoting the "board for peace", saying the US should hand-pick who leads Gaza, or being disgustingly bloodthirsty about Iran.

Which one is worse? The one who's against imperialism because they don't understand how it benefits america, or the performative matcha drinking imperialist who hides it behind being a young hipster with vibes?

Not gonna lie, Tucker is outflanking most people on the left in regards to Palestine.

That’s not true at all. If you actually watch Tucker Carlson’s videos he’s just as wishy washy about imperialism as those libs. In the infamous video of Ted Cruz, minutes after questioning Ted Cruz’ ignorance on Iran, he concedes points about why the IRGC is so bad and completely endorses anticommunism (obv, but it’s important note).

It’s one thing to say he’s outflanking liberals and one of the most prominent people to do so but to say he’s outflanking people on the left is ridiculous.

[–] stink@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 1 month ago (3 children)

Yeah but the same "progressives" like Mehdi Hassan are also shit on the same issues you are upset about. Peddling lies on the 40,000 protestors "massacred" in Iran, leading up to the start of america's illegal bombing campaign.

Look at Zeteo, Mehdi Hassan's own news channel, and see the slop they're posting. How exactly is he better in any way than tucker is?

[–] Crucible@hexbear.net 13 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Nobody here is going to stand up for lib ass Mehdi Hassan, 'progessive' doesn't mean anything

[–] stink@lemmygrad.ml 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Yeah that was kinda my point, tucker's a ghoul, but so are these progressives who claim they're not

[–] Lussy@hexbear.net 10 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

You honestly think someone who wants 50 million Americans disappeared for being illegal is actually anti-imperialist?

[–] Johnny_Arson@hexbear.net 8 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Nobody is talking about Medhi Hassan here though. I never see him posted anywhere on here. We are talking about you and too many others giving critical support to a literal Nazi.

Mehdi Hassan is overtly a lib and not a leftist

Okay but Tucker is an outright Nazi and you should not be "supportive" of anyone like him triangulating "to the left" of liberals whatever the fuck that means.

The enemy of our enemy is not by default our friend and I fucking hate that I keep seeing takes like yours pop up here.

[–] MohammedTheCommunistPalestinian@hexbear.net 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Is he though

Tucker Carlson is an obviously horrible person (dude was big Iraq war advocate)

But I am not aware of him saying Nazi shit

He’s definitely said a lot of racist shit about black people and immigrants

Idk about Jews

[–] Johnny_Arson@hexbear.net 9 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (8 children)

Nazism is not exclusive to hating jews. It was after all first and foremost about cooptng socialist energy and redirecting it away from the German bourgeoisie toward scapegoats that including Jews but also communists, anarchists, LGBT people, slavs, Roma etc etc.

Also Tucker does dabble in ZOG shit about Israel controlling the US and the person I was arguing with also brought up Marjorie Taylor Greene who openly ranted about "Jewish space lasers" during the California wildfires which is especially fucked.

Jiang is such a crank and its so embarrassing that leftists watch it.

[–] THEPH0NECOMPANY@hexbear.net 17 points 1 month ago

I thought people were watching Jiang the same way I would watch Alex Jones, I really just want to laugh at a crank.

Problem is that Jiang is like 80% of the way there with basic observations and then immediately flips the conclusion into something ridiculous. And for people that can make basic observations but can't quite form the conclusion themselves they just ride along with him cause he has a whiteboard and speaks confidently.

[–] eldavi@lemmy.ml 13 points 1 month ago (1 children)

he's espousing views that don't flatter to the united states; so it automatically garners support.

[–] Self_Sealing_Stem_Bolt@hexbear.net 18 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Exactly. Theres a user in a discord server I'm in that just constantly Stans jiang and its so embarrassing. His predictions are so elementary. War with Iran is not a prediction-amerika has been attacking them since 1953.

The Kiriakou vids make the CIA look terrible though?

[–] hollowmines@hexbear.net 13 points 1 month ago (2 children)

this is my first time hearing about 2/3 of these so idk how effective this particular push is

[–] stink@lemmygrad.ml 14 points 1 month ago

My aunt over thanksgiving tried to get me to watch dan blizerian, tried to tell her he's not the guy she should be listening to but she didn't wanna hear any of it

You haven’t but my parents have and they’re not that particularly online

[–] AssortedBiscuits@hexbear.net 13 points 1 month ago (5 children)

"Professor" Jiang (he's not an actual professor) has fed connections if not a fed himself. There's a Twitter thread about Jiang's background: https://nitter.net/zhen_ming_/status/2035083436860612639

He immigrated to Canada when he was 6 and he only learned how to speak Mandarin at college. He spoke Taishanese at home, meaning he most likely didn't know how to read Chinese characters until college either. Basically, he's a lot more removed from mainstream Chinese society than what he lets on. I don't think he even lives in China. People are just listening to an anticommunist Chinese Canadian with a vague foreign accent and thinks that he must represent Chinese Mainlanders somehow.

Oh and he also thinks that "Israel's success is due to it becoming a world laboratory, creating goods and technologies exported to the rest of the world."

[–] purpleworm@hexbear.net 6 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Are you sure? Even if he spoke monolingual Hoisanese, wouldn't most of the text been in Chinese regardless? Most sinitic languages use the same basic script plus or minus some words for vocabulary differences because it's a logographic script.

Okay, I need to check if I'm the only one who was this aware of Kiriakou and his ties.

My first introduction to him was through Sputnik News podcasts when he was the co-host with Brian Becker. The show was pretty good and I do appreciate the fact that Kiriakou testified against CIA torture programs and Jina Haspel's involvement, but CIA members are to never be trusted.

Anyway, good analysis on the show, Richard Wolff was a frequent guest. But Sputnik News had some Russian ties and funding iirc. They split off and Kiriakou left, now Brian Becker is the host of the independent The Socialist Program podcast.

Now a few things about Becker: he's the national coordinator of ANSWER coalition and has a long personal history of good political agitation. And he's one of the founding members of PSL.

But the thing that's always made me a little uneasy is the proximity to Kiriakou and being very high up in the PSL. Same goes for Wolff's close association with the show as well as Michael Prysner. They haven't publicly worked with Kiriakou in years so far as I can recall, and I assume at some point if you're a prominent left figure then you're probably going to rub elbows with CIA whether you seek it out or not. But this connection has always made me feel a little warry of PSL, though I know they're probably the best party out there.

Just want to see what y'all's takes on this are.

[–] spectre@hexbear.net 10 points 1 month ago (3 children)

That is interesting.

But Sputnik News had some Russian ties and funding iirc

Is Sputnik News not explicitly Russian state media?

[–] ClimateStalin@hexbear.net 6 points 1 month ago

It’s Russian state media in the same way that NPR is American state media. They get money but have editorial independence.

How truly independent you think that is is up to you. I’d argue that The New York Times is more “state media” than NPR or Sputnik.

is Kiriakou a psyop since the videos of him may convince people that the CIA has time dilation technology? During many interviews he demonstrates the ability to speed up and slow down at will

He’s actually pretty liberal socially

I just feel like there’s an algorithmic manipulation going on

[–] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 10 points 1 month ago (5 children)

I think it is because they don't have the people in charge they used to, they aren't nearly as competent as their forebears and they're panicking, so they're just throwing whatever they can out there in the hopes that some of it sticks and relying on the lack of media literacy built up by generations of a neoliberal education system to be successful. They don't have a plan to combat growing class consciousness beyond just throwing more money at talking heads and hoping it works.

[–] plinky@hexbear.net 8 points 1 month ago (4 children)

people trying to make sense of empire behavior without saying word empire, thus psyops

[–] MohammedTheCommunistPalestinian@hexbear.net 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I am more interested in who's doing the promoting ?

[–] plinky@hexbear.net 5 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (2 children)

tucker is self-sustaining entity-skeptic wing (probably capital as well, for future fash presidency, can't parse if he is paleocon wing or fake-out), kiriakou is a world historic dipshit (see 17n), jiang seems like just dead ender for tucker-curious to falun gong pipeline, so same eh, haven't seen anything aside from some tweets. all perfectly compatible with different wings of capital (for example, i don't think non-military digital capital is thrilled about instability in gulf, just as it might not be thrilled with chinese decoupling)

like say i'm tim cook/apple investor, why on earth would i enjoy seeing this shit? same goes for like copper and manufacturing, defense industry inputs are tiny compared to construction. like you can just go industry by industry, and get ideas
