Okay, I need to check if I'm the only one who was this aware of Kiriakou and his ties.
My first introduction to him was through Sputnik News podcasts when he was the co-host with Brian Becker. The show was pretty good and I do appreciate the fact that Kiriakou testified against CIA torture programs and Jina Haspel's involvement, but CIA members are to never be trusted.
Anyway, good analysis on the show, Richard Wolff was a frequent guest. But Sputnik News had some Russian ties and funding iirc. They split off and Kiriakou left, now Brian Becker is the host of the independent The Socialist Program podcast.
Now a few things about Becker: he's the national coordinator of ANSWER coalition and has a long personal history of good political agitation. And he's one of the founding members of PSL.
But the thing that's always made me a little uneasy is the proximity to Kiriakou and being very high up in the PSL. Same goes for Wolff's close association with the show as well as Michael Prysner. They haven't publicly worked with Kiriakou in years so far as I can recall, and I assume at some point if you're a prominent left figure then you're probably going to rub elbows with CIA whether you seek it out or not. But this connection has always made me feel a little warry of PSL, though I know they're probably the best party out there.
Just want to see what y'all's takes on this are.
Fun fact: a friend of mine was employed by the Kiriakous as an au pair.
Another fun fact is he was Jared Leto's high school(?) teacher
That is interesting.
Is Sputnik News not explicitly Russian state media?
It’s Russian state media in the same way that NPR is American state media. They get money but have editorial independence.
How truly independent you think that is is up to you. I’d argue that The New York Times is more “state media” than NPR or Sputnik.
... Hello, it is I, Captain Obvious!!
It is state owned according to Natopedia
