Fixing the MIC to get it ready for a real war would require overhauling it to work more or less like it did at the peak of WW2. That means 90%+ taxes, strict government oversight on all programs, business "owners" being more or less completely under Washington's control, etc. Never gonna happen in a million years - the current MIC is doing exactly what it was actually designed to do, which is provide a kayfabe for funneling public money into private hands and occasionally blow up poor people who can't fight back.
The "current climate" as in the "climate that's currently baking the planet in no small part due to the single largest CO2 emitter in the world, the United States military"?
