Ye Power Trippin' Bastards

1730 readers
272 users here now

This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.

Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.

Posting Guidelines

All posts should follow this basic structure:

  1. Which mods/admins were being Power Tripping Bastards?
  2. What sanction did they impose (e.g. community ban, instance ban, removed comment)?
  3. Provide a screenshot of the relevant modlog entry (don’t de-obfuscate mod names).
  4. Provide a screenshot and explanation of the cause of the sanction (e.g. the post/comment that was removed, or got you banned).
  5. Explain why you think its unfair and how you would like the situation to be remedied.

Rules

Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.

Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.

YPTB matrix channel: For real-time discussions about bastards or to appeal mod actions in YPTB itself.

I've alway been loudly against the Gaza Geocide, and when I was a user in lemmy.world my registration e-mail was leaked to Israel and a Tel-Aviv based organization sent me via it an invitation for a "learn about Israel" online event, in my mother language.

Since only an admin has access to user registration information like that, I can only conclude that lemmy.world's administration has at least one person working for Israel.

Further, at least one of the moderators of news@lemmy.world has admitted elsewhere of being a Zionist.

Already back in the peak of the Gaza Genocide there was a lot of suppressing of news about Israeli attacks on civilians in the most subscribed forums in there and still now it's pretty common in lemmy.world forums to have moderators censor criticism of Israel by claiming it's "anti-semitism".

So this is no surprise at all. In fact I myself was only surprised by, yesterday, seeing the post with that picture in a big lemmy.world forum long enough to already have over 100 upvotes - judging by this post here, guess that the people in lemmy.world in charge of making sure such things are suppressed were asleep when that post was made.

The censorship thing is what I've noticed as well since the start of their instance. There are bookmarks that I've saved that are no longer available. They seem to be using the reddit way of letting things run their course and then remove it when things settle down and people move on to next thing, so no records remain. Fortunately, some instance do save some snippets.

I've also been warning users that they're behind cloudflare and all data between users and the server is decrypted in clear text, but it seems no one's paying attention. I wouldn't be surprised if people from reddit are behind it.

Use it to browse memes and cat pictures but never for politics and messaging. A temporary mail would be better too.

Did you use that email anywhere else? What was the organization called?

I would certainly have added an NSFW tag before I post it. When I first saw it in my feed, I wish you had tagged it.

My guess is it violates rule 3 or 4.

[–] Aatube@lemmy.dbzer0.com 26 points 2 days ago (2 children)

rule 4 being "No NSFW...", which I agree with.

(rule 3 is "no AI or digital art"; I think this is a real photograph.)

Just removed?

Not power tripping.

Is it debatable if the image is or isn't NSFL? Sure, but that's inherent to moderation; judgement calls suck to make, but they do need to be made quickly when something is sensitive.

I personally wouldn't have removed the post without also contacting the poster to repost with an nsfw tag, but it is well within acceptable limits to pull something fast when a shit storm starts brewing in comments. Ideal, no; but also not power tripping

Yeah, the general tenor of the lemmy.world pics community is to avoid politics (based on my read of their rules) so removing the post seems in line with that.

[–] ThorrJo@lemmy.sdf.org 7 points 2 days ago

Correct: OP's mistake was in engaging with a community on .world in the first place.

I wonder if the bereaved parents consider the mass murder of their children “politics?”

i was in that thread yesterday. it was likely taken down due to the comments getting out of hand.

and they absolutely were getting out of hand, imho.

[–] maam@feddit.uk 26 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They should’ve locked the post.

[–] goferking0@lemmy.sdf.org 7 points 2 days ago

World would rather nuke the post than do that. There's even times in the log they mark removals as don't want to deal with reports instead of just locking them

[–] LibertyLizard@slrpnk.net 25 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Isn't that what locking is for?

[–] Nima@leminal.space 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

the subject matter is also likely not appropriate for that particular instance.

[–] ThorrJo@lemmy.sdf.org -4 points 2 days ago

Correct: it's a shitlib instance populated by spiritual "le epic bacon" redditors.

[–] Linktank@lemmy.today 3 points 2 days ago

Curious, in what way were they getting out of hand?

[–] Luminous5481@anarchist.nexus 3 points 3 days ago

your post didn't agree with the zionist party line, I suppose.

[–] TheObviousSolution@lemmy.ca -4 points 2 days ago (2 children)

ITT: "Yeah, I submitted this image of blood and entrails, no idea why it was removed. Bad taste? I wonder if the family members who survived all the victims of all the genocides that have ever been carried out think about bad taste."

[–] CubitOom@infosec.pub 8 points 2 days ago

entrails ~plural noun~

bowels, viscera

broadly : internal parts
