We learn something new every day. This is a community dedicated to informing each other and helping to spread knowledge.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules (interactive)

Rule 1- All posts must begin with TIL. Linking to a source of info is optional, but highly recommended as it helps to spark discussion.

** Posts must be about an actual fact that you have learned, but it doesn't matter if you learned it today. See Rule 6 for all exceptions.**

Rule 2- Your post subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material.

Your post subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material. You will be warned first, banned second.

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding non-TIL posts.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-TIL posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.

If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

For further explanation, clarification and feedback about this rule, you may follow this link.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here.

Don’t call it that to any British people, though, as to them, “dogging” has a very different meaning.

All fourteen seconds of it, anyway.

Ten of those seconds are apologising, too.

[–] matelt@feddit.uk 5 points 1 month ago

it's a right giggle though!

[–] Sibbo@sopuli.xyz 17 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I've never seen a HTTP error 451 before.

[–] RobotToaster@mander.xyz 19 points 1 month ago

It's specifically a reference to Fahrenheit 451 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTP_451

[–] northernlights@lemmy.today 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Damn me neither. Didn't even know it existed. So specific.

[–] tja@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)

You probably also want to learn about 418 then

[–] northernlights@lemmy.today 5 points 1 month ago

That one I knew ;) I think from the 1st month of my CS major in college from a teacher who thought that would be a good way to wake us up when explaining HTTP codes.

Air guitar for people without pets.

[–] Sunsofold@lemmings.world 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Is a pet even involved for air guitar?

[–] slickgoat@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Only if you want to do it correctly..

[–] northernlights@lemmy.today 10 points 1 month ago (3 children)

I really don't know what to think of this. Is it cute? Sad? Should they talk to a therapist and take their meds or are they fine?

[–] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago

Honestly, they probably are working through something, but if this helps that, and it certainly isn't hurting anybody else, I wish them the best.

[–] MissJinx@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

i mean sometimes we see people doing stuff and we know they have issues and for sure need some help, BUT, they could be dealing with it in a way worst way, so I don't mind. You go imaginary dog people.

[–] essell@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

I think it's the people who don't play who should get the meds!

[–] rhythmisaprancer@piefed.social 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

People can say what they will, but I see this as a great option for folks who shouldn't have a dog (or can't) but would otherwise benefit from social interaction. @tacotroubles@lemmy.world mentioned a beer league version. Fantastic! So many ways to wrap this instead of wrapping it as cooky or with an agenda in mind.

[–] pinball_wizard@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 month ago

@tacotroubles@lemmy.world mentioned a beer league version.

I assumed that would be the default. Haha.

[–] kbal@fedia.io 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I remember when "dogging" was the hobby everyone was talking about. When was that, 2015 maybe? Good times.

[–] whyNotSquirrel@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 month ago

like 2years ago or something then

[–] blimthepixie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)
[–] zikzak025@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

That one's impressive because they actually took footage of a real dog and edited it out so well, it doesn't look like anything is amiss when Shrek is pasted over it.

[–] blimthepixie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

How long would that have taken to do? It's pretty clean

[–] zikzak025@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Probably several years of education and/or practice

[–] webp@mander.xyz 4 points 1 month ago

Why not get fun with it and put a balloon or something on the leash?

[–] spittingimage@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

Makes as much sense as fantasy football.

[–] Etterra@lemmy.org 3 points 1 month ago

And here I thought that was just a joke from the Jimmy Kimball show.

[–] Fleur_@aussie.zone 3 points 1 month ago

The future vegans want

[–] vivalapivo@lemmy.today 2 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Hobby dogging is not that weird. Look for hobby motocross

[–] rants_unnecessarily@piefed.social 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

And hobby horse is a thing too. Don't see anything wrong with this.

[–] vivalapivo@lemmy.today 1 points 1 month ago

Wrong? Nothing wrong here, just weird

[–] Quilotoa@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)
[–] vivalapivo@lemmy.today 1 points 1 month ago

I live to see hobby sexing and hobby warefarring

[–] tacotroubles@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

I bet it would be a great beer league. Get a little sloshed then you take your invisible cockerdoodle through the course!

Me neither it looks like

[–] MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

No such thing here (Swiss).

But fine (careful; ads preserved too).

[–] bluesheep@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Ooh didn't know uBlock stopped that error. I'm on mobile atm so that's probably the reason

[–] incompetent@programming.dev 1 points 1 month ago

uBlock Origin works on Firefox for Android.

[–] Quilotoa@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 month ago

You could just power down for a while.

[–] aceshigh@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Maybe the Westminster kennel club dog show can host.

[–] SlightlyNormal@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

That's an amusing article, but I wonder why is the link to an American small-town newspaper site covering a German hobby?
