Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

A draft emergency executive order to declare a national emergency to allow President Donald Trump to take unprecedented control over voting is being circulated by anti-voting activists who said they are in coordination with the White House.

Voting rights experts, democracy advocates, and at least one state election chief said Trump doesn’t have the authority to claim such powers — and any attempt would be blatantly unconstitutional.

The draft order — which is said to be based on a conspiracy theory that China interfered with the 2020 election — would allow Trump to unilaterally ban mail-in ballots and voting machines on the basis that they are susceptible to foreign interference.

The order comes from MAGA activists who have been coordinating with the White House. One of the advocates for the order is Peter Ticktin, the attorney for Tina Peters, the former GOP Colorado county clerk who is currently serving a nine-year state prison sentence for her role in a 2021 voting system breach, in an attempt to find voter fraud based on election conspiracies.

The Elections Clause of the U.S. Constitution explicitly gives states — not the president — sole authority over elections.

anti-voting activists

Fascists. Call them by their name.

Certainly THIS illegal act will be the one that makes the justice wake up, and not just another one swept under the rug because "akshually, the president cannot do crime" - as per SCOTUS

Or the American people.

This is my hard limit of taking up arms. IDK about you guys but I think bypassing an election to steal a third or more terms is blatant tyranny and should kick off a revolution.

The Elections Clause of the U.S. Constitution explicitly gives states — not the president — sole authority over elections.

For this very fucking reason.

The Constitution is as strong as the paper it’s written on.

As OP stated. SCOTUS is captured by a complicit majority that wants a right wing theocracy.

The 6 corrupt Supreme Court justices have shown that waving a copy of the Constitution lightly over their rulings is close enough for them. They've made it very clear that states have no real authority over elections by forcing them to include Trump on their ballots after he clearly incited an insurrection.

Our laws and Constitution are meaningless with this Supreme Court.

As a Constitution Loving QAnon believer who HATES Pedophiles AND Corruption I APPLAUD the President, who Raped Children with Jeffrey Epstein, taking UNCONSTITUTIONAL Control of Elections!

[–] brucethemoose@lemmy.world 30 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago) (1 children)

It really is anticlimactic.

We get an honest to god pedo cabal, and a federal powergrab, and the response from factions who dedicated entire lives to warning, as loud as they can shout, about these two exact things is...

"Meh?"

Meanwhile, it seems the world is chanting for the Clintons to burn at the stake; the opposite of what they expected?

I would be so confused if I was QAnon.

the world

I know it may feel that way, but I assure you, the rest of the world is watching the US right now like this:

[–] Joeffect@lemmy.world 4 points 1 hour ago

This is one of those times I would support another country kidnapping a president just like our government has done...

Freedom of speech is basically not even a thing any more, the chance that someone shows up to my door for saying this is not 0 like it should be.

Its crazy, what these people are allowed to get away with and the fact that the democrats are not saying so every day as loud as they can just like these fools have done constantly in the past... says a lot about the whole situation.

Its frustrating beyond belief and it always seems to be getting worse.

That "blatantly illegal" part should be a key part of every headline dealing with this anti-American treachery.

[–] U7826391786239@piefed.zip 40 points 4 hours ago (2 children)

as if red state boards of elections won't do whatever he tells them anyway...

[–] spaghettiwestern@sh.itjust.works 21 points 3 hours ago

Exactly how he was installed as tyrant in the first place.

[–] danc4498@lemmy.world 9 points 3 hours ago

Good point. Issue isn’t with him taking over blue states. It’ll be with him doing this in red states preventing representation of for blue districts. We’ll see Atlanta with 0 democrats elected.

[–] hydroptic@sopuli.xyz -5 points 3 hours ago (4 children)

Isn't the title of the post false?

The headline is "Anti-voting activists co-ordinating with White House on blatantly illegal draft emergency order to take control of elections", and by all accounts it seems to be some group of far right activist cranks who are circulating the "order" and not the WH?

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 12 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Let's not muddy the waters. They are circulating it within the White House, it says so right in the article.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2026/02/26/trump-elections-executive-order-activists/

Activists who say they are in coordination with the White House are circulating a draft executive order that would unlock extraordinary presidential power over voting.https://

[–] cattywampas@lemmy.world 2 points 28 minutes ago

"Activists who say"

What does the White House say?

[–] who@feddit.org 14 points 3 hours ago (3 children)

Before legislation is passed, it is often drafted by people outside of Congress, and outside of the White House. Corporate lobbyists, for example.

I hope America recognises that the stakes are too high to be dismissive of this. Even if it goes nowhere the first time, or the tenth, becoming complacent would be a huge mistake.

[–] Mirshe@lemmy.world 3 points 1 hour ago

Even still, Noem literally stated, on mic, on camera to the nation, that ICE would be at the polls ensuring the "right people" vote for the "right leaders". Believe your enemy when they're dumb enough to tell you their plan.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 5 points 3 hours ago

If American voters could read, they would be upset!

[–] hydroptic@sopuli.xyz -3 points 3 hours ago

I mean, sure, but as far as I can tell from the article it's not the WH circulating the draft order?

[–] the_tab_key@lemmy.world 8 points 3 hours ago
