The Chinese are literally among the few nations in the world who could entirely correctly talk about defending against the barbarians at the gates; historically they were besieged by the Mongols, but more recently suffered hideously at the hands of the British (and America) and the Japanese; and right now America's been threatening them for decades. The CIA literally keeps trying to infiltrate the Chinese government and is doing so openly on their twitter feed. Literally one of the few countries that's justified about warning against the barbarians at the gates.

The anthem was written as the barbarians had already breached the gates and started killing and pillaging, so it’s doubly dumb to complain about the lyrics being too uppity
“March of the Volunteers” was written in 1935 as part of the soundtrack for the film Children of Troubled Times (风云儿女), in the midst of the Century of Humiliation, a time when China had been ravaged by warlords and imperialist invaders, including the genocidal IJA. It was written by employees of a indie film studio that worked for free most of the time because they had almost no money and were being actively suppressed by the KMT. The Chinese Nation was in danger of being completely wiped out, so it absolutely was at its “greatest peril”. Sure sounds a whole lot more moving and stirring than the slaver drinking song, and it also has the bonus of not sounding like total shit
Funnily enough, it was finished in Japan.
This is on par with tone-policing Jewish poems from WWII.
90% of national anthems
I'm struggling to think of a national anthem that isn't about killing people at least a little bit.
East Germany had a good one.
Auferstanden aus Ruinen
Und der Zukunft zugewandt
I'm currently working in the Middle East so I thought I'd look up national anthems in the region and here's the one for Bahrain:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_anthem_of_Bahrain
Also the Saudi Arabian national anthem:
https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Anthem_of_Saudi_Arabia
I looked up the one for the UAE but it says something about supplying the land with their blood, and the one for Qatar has a line about people being ready to be warriors in times of war
how about this Middle Eastern country's anthem
Bring us the king!
Bring us the rope!
Bind his hands, bind his feet!
Throw his body into the sea
And our people shall be free.
Basenji, Basenji, greatest of countries,
You're our only love,
And we pledge our lives to thee.
Basenji, Basenji, greatest of countries,
Victory for us,
Death to our enemies.
Raise the shovel high,
I will push the cart.
We'll build glory forever,
Inspired by stalwart hearts!
Basenji, Basenji, greatest of countries,
You're our only love,
And we pledge our lives,
And we pledge our lives,
And we pledge our lives to thee.
And that rocket's red glare? That's just the fireworks on the fourth of July, don't worry about it, stop thinking, what are you, some kind of commie?
a war that was imposed on them by rapacious westerners and the Japanese (depending on what this dipshit is talking about)
Non-zero chance this prick doesn’t know Japan invaded China
Never believe that antisemites are unaware etc. etc.
and amerikkka's is some weepy bullshit about getting fucking owned by the british, i'm not sure this is the angle these guys want to get into
I thought it was about busting
can't be, bustin makes me feel good and america doesn't
Here's the Amerikkkan national anthem, transcribed to English:
"I'm waking up to ash and dust I wipe my brow and I sweat my rust I'm breathing in the chemicals
I'm breaking in, shaping up, then checking out on the prison bus This is it, the apocalypse Whoa oh
I'm waking up, I feel it in my bones Enough to make my system blow Welcome to the new age, to the new age Welcome to the new age, to the new age Whoa, oh, oh, oh, oh, whoa, oh, oh, oh, I'm radioactive, radioactive Whoa, oh, oh, oh, oh, whoa, oh, oh, oh, I'm radioactive, radioactive
I raise my flag and dye my clothes It's a revolution, I suppose We're painted red to fit right in Whoa oh
I'm breaking in, shaping up, then checking out on the prison bus This is it, the apocalypse Whoa oh
I'm waking up, I feel it in my bones Enough to make my system blow Welcome to the new age, to the new age Welcome to the new age, to the new age Whoa, oh, oh, oh, oh, whoa, oh, oh, oh, I'm radioactive, radioactive Whoa, oh, oh, oh, oh, whoa, oh, oh, oh, I'm radioactive, radioactive"
Utterly meaningless.
honestly way too based to be Amerikkka's anthem
I raise my flag and dye my clothes It's a revolution, I suppose We're painted red to fit right in Whoa oh
Singing this. It's a war cry. A war song.
Let's go children of the fatherland,
The day of glory has arrived!
Against us tyranny's
Bloody flag is raised! (repeat)
In the countryside, do you hear
The roaring of these fierce soldiers?
They come right to our arms
To slit the throats of our sons, our friends!Grab your weapons, citizens!
Form your battalions!
Let us march! Let us march!
May impure blood
Water our fields!
France!
When Britain first at Heav'n's command
Arose from out the azure main
Arose, arose from out the azure main
This was the charter, the charter of the land
And guardian angels sang this strain
Rule, Britannia! Britannia rule the waves
Britons never, never, never will be slaves
Rule, Britannia! Britannia rule the waves
Britons never, never, never will be slaves
wait till they hear about the french anthem! oooooh!
Cry ab it
It's a War Cry, a war song.
This Lyrics to the Mobile Suit Gundam Theme in English:
Burn Burn Burn up, Gundam Run, my hero If you still have the fighting spirit that burns with anger, Defeat the giant enemy, defeat them, defeat them! Throw the wrath of justice at them, Gundam Mobile Suit Gundam, Gundam
In conclusion, China is developing Zakus
Oh so I assume chuds the world over will voluntarily start singing new national anthems about something else like the geological features or landmarks, right? Too hippie and gay? The cities? Too urban and gay? Fellowship and brotherhood? Gay and also gay?

Paul Robeson does a good cover!
