Admitting to looting. and he thinks he's the good guy

[–] Hazzard@lemmy.zip 13 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Does "liberate" actually imply theft in a way I'm missing? I assumed that meant he bought the chicken when I first read it, but nobody in these comments seems to think that.

[–] teslekova@sh.itjust.works 40 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Liberate is standard army slang for steal, yes.

[–] deranger@sh.itjust.works 12 points 2 weeks ago

“tactically acquired” was a favorite of mine

especially when spelled with quotes.

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 6 points 2 weeks ago

If he'd bought it he would have just said so. I don't "liberate" a double cheeseburger, I buy it. With money.

[–] themeatbridge@lemmy.world 64 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

So he stole a chicken, which is actually a war crime, and he's just casually admitting it on social media. Says a lot about the state of the world at the moment.

[–] tyler@programming.dev 15 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Wait what’s the war crime? Theft?

yhea, looting is a war crime. if you got a vet cousin who showed you his "souvenirs", he's a war criminal. on top of every other war crime he committed there.

[–] themeatbridge@lemmy.world 30 points 2 weeks ago

It's called pillaging when it's an invasion force.

[–] jdr@lemmy.ml 6 points 2 weeks ago

Enjoying a succulent Iraqi meal?

[–] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 6 points 2 weeks ago

Yes but US won so it's ok.

[–] lemonwood@lemmy.ml 63 points 2 weeks ago (4 children)

US soldiers in Iraq didn't just steal with impunity and without any shame, they didn't just fight an unjust and murderous war against an innocent population based on nothing but lies, they also ran well organized rings for child kidnapping, rape and sexual slavery for twenty years on multiple US bases.

[–] Bubbaonthebeach@lemmy.ca 20 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

And the ones who were too young or missed out on Iraq will soon get a chance to do the same in Iran.

[–] ebolapie@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I think Iran will prove somewhat more difficult in a ground invasion.

I don't know if the us military is ready to occupy Iran, but just off the top of my head there are several reasons we (the US as a nation) will find it more difficult than Iraq:

  1. Iran is covered in mountains. Good luck maneuvering armor through there.
  2. There aren't any good staging areas. From the Turkish border to Tehran is 1000km.
  3. Iranians will not greet us as liberators, no matter their opinion of the Ayatollah. They'll tell us to fuck off.
  4. Iran has a military of their own, who will be fighting on heir home turf.

This is a non exhaustive list but take it from this American with a passing interest in geography, invading Iran would be monumentally stupid. I think a failed invasion might be the best outcome. Like Iraq, Afghanistan, and Vietnam, all rolled into one massive clusterfuck. A "successful occupation" would probably collapse us once and for all.

[–] HugeNerd@lemmy.ca -2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Iran seems to live in la-la land. They leave their scientists and military leaders openly vulnerable.

They won't resist a full-on air, ground, and sea operation. Israel will get what it wants and the prince whatever his face also.

[–] ebolapie@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

The geography alone will prove problematic. And even if they lose, that doesn't mean we win. I say we, I mean "The United States." It will be expensive, we won't achieve our geopolitical objectives, we'll alienate our allies, I seriously can't think of what is actually in it for the US.

[–] HugeNerd@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

we’ll alienate our allies

That nuclear aircraft carrier and its escort has sailed. Probably to the Red Sea under orders from the real commander.

[–] ebolapie@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

I mean we'll really alienate them. Y'all aren't happy with us right now, because we're acting a fool, but we aren't out in the cold yet.

"Things are never so bad that they cannot be made worse."

[–] HugeNerd@lemmy.ca 0 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Dude, Iran has no hope against what's amassing in the area over the last few weeks. A few pitiful Russian weapons that no one's trained to use? Then what?

[–] ebolapie@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

The Taliban kicked our asses with IEDs and Soviet surplus. And besides, look at Iraq. They don't have to win for us to lose.

[–] mEEGal@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Hmmmm...

Fuck US imperialism, obviously, but these are pretty heavy claims. Got any proof ?

[–] ptu@sopuli.xyz 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)
[–] mEEGal@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago

Which is already bad enough in itself

But far from the claims 2 comments above

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 0 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

as is tradition, for every war.

[–] umbrella@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

.. that the us seems keen on starting 9/10 times around the world, for some reason.

[–] HugeNerd@lemmy.ca -2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Sounds like a Russian operation.

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

You misspelled Israeli

[–] umbrella@lemmy.ml 35 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

All Chickens Are Bastards

[–] theuniqueone@lemmy.dbzer0.com 30 points 2 weeks ago

Likely stolen after killing a family then put at risk while you continue looting and oppressing.

[–] IAmNorRealTakeYourMeds@lemmy.world 11 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

[–] Carmakazi@piefed.social 13 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Chicken got deaf af if true

[–] Luvs2Spuj@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago

I have a chicken fact here! They can repair their hearing if it's damaged.

[–] RaoulDook@lemmy.world 11 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Dogs and cats also are great for helping you notice things, you can watch them and see what their super hearing directs their attention to. That's why hunters sometimes use pointer dogs and stuff.

[–] musubibreakfast@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

That's way too complicated, I just duct tape a cat below the business end of my shotgun when I go hunting.

[–] HerbalGamer@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago

You should play Postal 2.

[–] Thedogdrinkscoffee@lemmy.ca 11 points 2 weeks ago

Note to self: IED in the chickens.
