I’ve been playing only BG3 for a good few months now, it started with a very story focused druid play through where I geared up every companion you can get and included all of them in their respective story arc fights to see as much of the story as possible, I paused that run right before the final encounter(s), then started an honor mode run where I only really used the same 3 companions and tried to make them as overpowered as possible (also using the illithid powers way more, and high charisma rolls due to being a sorcerer) while also cheesing the harder bosses if possible, usually by setting up ambushes on them to hit them upfront with as much firepower as possible, the plan is to get to the same spot as in the druid playthrough (I’m getting close, most of the easy act 3 stuff is done, lvl 12) and go back to see the conclusion of the story, and then try those final fights in the honor mode run knowing what I’ll be up against

edit: I feel the distant spell sorcerer ability is underrated, it’s cheap and allows starting combat from a good position far away and possibly kite enemies into ambushes, or just lets you fire off spells from a safe spot reducing the probability of getting wiped, also worth mentioning the illithid skill mind sanctuary gives haste to everyone in the affected area in honor mode, if you have enough summons you could fill up the space of a globe of invulnerability and also have mind sanctuary covering the same area

edit 2: the closest I came to getting wiped in honor mode was the gnoll fight (including taking on the boss), and getting blown up by the zhents, both are pretty early in act 1

this weekend I went back to ESO for the first time in a few months because they have an event with some decent rewards, the exploring has been good for leveling up my vamp alt character, you can go from one treasure map to the next and keep getting the event reward boxes ( and also more maps to keep the streak going )

Back on my Yugioh bullshit since people my age now have money and Konami is printing support for all the decks from like 10-15 years ago. I was stunned to see that Gem-Knights are somewhat meta and even Junk is decent. The current event is pretty fun too.

For all of Master Duel's faults it's one of the few free to play games that you can play for free without being at a disadvantage

[–] Parzivus@hexbear.net 2 points 13 hours ago

It's kinda crazy that Master Duel is so chill to play for free and Duel Links is right down the street with the most awful monetization I've ever seen in a TCG

started a lil duckstation playthrough of ff9, already gamesharked in 1k jumpropes as vivi & 100 nobles/queen impressed cuz aint nobody got time for that. also using a guide cuz there are just so many little hidden items in this game it's almost necessary. game is gorgeous and all the characters feel so alive and full of personality.

still plugging away at nioh 3, haven't hit any major walls outside of the first (second technically? idk) boss (had to use a summon just so i could progress) and combat is getting more fluid. feels very nice to style on enemies, excited to try out nioh 2 after i finish it.

might play some e33 tomorrow or something, hard to find time to really dig into it. feels like a game i wanna play multi hour sessions of rather than an hour here and there.

My partner and I replayed the most romantic game we own for Valentine's Day: Doki Doki Literature Club!

I've been playing this game called Disc Creatures that's sort of like the original gameboy pokemon games. I got this bird with a top hat, he's so cute.

I named him Biffington.

I love the gbc pokemon art style so much, the Emerald Seaglass rom hack is so beautiful for using it.

Trying Noita again after giving up in frustration last time. I'm enjoying it more, but still suffering a lot of deaths that feel cheap and unavoidable. Just need to git gud, I suppose.

Giving KOTOR another try too. I don't mind retro graphics but the combat interface feels clunky. Still on the first planet, and I may look into save editors once I unlock Jedi, because my build would suck otherwise.

I bought Diablo 2: Resurrected a few weeks back because my workmate is into it, and then they go and drop the first DLC in 25 years the other day. But I don't want to give Blizzard money. And while the new class and QoL changes look sick, they haven't touched the janky original controls.

Been finally getting back to Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 after being too burnt out to play video games for a while. I'm still super early on.

Baldurs Gate 3 constantly

Nearly at the end of my co-op game with my partner, just need to finish the steel watch, the house of hope, and cazador’s palace.

Also playing a single player game as Gale, about halfway through act 1 in that one

It’s such a good game

When I haven’t wanted to think enough to play BG3 I’ve been playing Control, it’s pretty fun, nothing spectacular though

Got back into Silksong. Made it to the citadel and now I'm backtracking a bit for stuff I missed on the way up.

Haven't played factorio since the space update so I've been playing all week off and on. Just got my first space platform launched

[–] comrade_pibb@hexbear.net 2 points 14 hours ago

I've been playing a lot of The Long Dark this week. Playing on Voyageur difficulty so it's pretty chill. I've learned most of Ash Canyon and have made it back to the camp office with my new backpack after spending a few weeks in Pleasant Valley.

Still need to get better with the bow

Played a bit of Absolum yesterday, I unlocked the Frog dude and got all the way to the arena but died to the boss there.

I have also been playing SF6 online since friday. I'm trying to learn Ed because he's super cool but it's pretty hard so far. I've done the placemnts and got bronze 5 but a few matches later I'm now stuck on silver 1. Me lacking mixups is kinda bad since everyone just blocks most of my stuff, but I'm learning one to see if it helps.

I previously played Marisa and she's way easier to play, I remember getting to gold with her. The good thing is that I'm way better at reacting to DI and anti-airing right now, which I basically never did before with her.

Monster Train 2, wuuuuuuurms

Is McMillens new game any good? The title is yikes-1yikes-3, but it looks fun.

[–] Parzivus@hexbear.net 5 points 14 hours ago

The gameplay is excellent, so many ways to play the game and all kinds of wild interactions between all the different systems. It actually does feel like a game that was in development for seven years.

The humor is straight out of Newgrounds from 20 years ago, I'm like five hours in and two of the hub NPCs are a comically promiscuous LGBTQ+ man who lives in a pink trailer and a militant vegan. The stereotypes are so antiquated it's almost quaint? Still pretty offensive though

Finished Fallout London last week and did a fresh install of Fallout 4 after with A Storywealth installed. Good times.

Also finally started playing Colony Ship and it's amazing. Really hoping Iron Tower Studio can get together the money for a sequel. Their next game, Heralds of the Third Apocalypse, also has an interesting premise.

[–] 9to5@hexbear.net 1 points 17 hours ago

tell me more about Colony Ship been thinking about giving it a go but im a bit scared of the (potential) depth and difficulty

[–] WokePalpatine@hexbear.net 6 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Cave Story 3D on 3DS. Because I've played the 2D versions enough. It's okay I guess. The visuals suck. It's way too dark and the models aren't that cute. It really needs that always on-screen map so the player can tell where to jump since it's so messy visually now. Might try to get the true/best ending though this time. I always forget how to do it and then miss the thing(s) you need to do to get it.

[–] Esoteir@hexbear.net 3 points 17 hours ago

I didn't even know such a cursed edition of cave story existed doggirl-tears

if you haven't already and you ever get the urge to cave story on 3DS again, the eShop version is really good since it's essentially cave story plus but with the original pixel art and widescreen/stereoscopic 3D

Finally getting deep into a playthrough of Disco Elysium. Really enjoying this time around moreso than I did the last time I tried playing it. On Day 4. Pretty much playing it non-stop until I finish it.

[–] Demifriend@hexbear.net 1 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

I haven't been gaming much lately but yesterday I messed around with Xbox emulation a little bit, that was fun. I played Fuzion Frenzy and Super Monkey Ball Deluxe with my wife and then I watched her play Blinx: The Time Sweeper. If I'm feeling up to it later I might try some more Xbox games, I'd like to revisit Crimson Skies and maybe try some of the other Xbox exclusives I missed out on.

[–] Demifriend@hexbear.net 1 points 11 hours ago

I just learned the PS2 version of Super Monkey Ball Deluxe is locked at 30 fps. I’m gonna throw up

Beat Sonic 3 for the pc, the old sonic and knux collection modded to run on windows 10. I think I've beaten this game like 5-6 times over my life. It hits different playing with keyboard instead of controller. The midi music hits the nostalgia spot for me.

[–] Liketearsinrain@lemmy.ml 2 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

I love that game, do you have a favorite track?

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 2 points 15 hours ago

My favorite has to be Carnival Night Zone Genesis arrangement, the tracks are different in the pc version, so my favorite pc track is Knux's theme.

[–] Wisconcom@hexbear.net 3 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

I am playing Crusader Kings II. I am playing as a Zoroastrian dynasty in Northern Persia with the hope of defeating Islamic powers and restoring the Persian Empire.

[–] 9to5@hexbear.net 1 points 17 hours ago

Oh I have considered to give CK2 a try again but it has been ages that I seriously played the game and im pretty out of its systems. Lovely game though

[–] Dort_Owl@hexbear.net 6 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago) (1 children)

I Have no Mouth and I Must Scream

Not the most romantic game, but it's one of those games who's history fascinates me and I've always wanted to play it. It's very depressing though, thank god the voice acting is old and hammy or it would be miserable.

[–] LaGG_3@hexbear.net 6 points 20 hours ago

If you haven't read it, I'd also recommend the short story of the same name as a companion piece. It's different enough to get a bit of an alternate perspective. Also a super bummer tho lol.

EVE Online. Sold my jump freighter to resub my accounts and I've so far died horribly taking solo filaments a few times.

[–] ryepunk@hexbear.net 4 points 20 hours ago

Been playing everspace 2, it's like an arcade space sim with Diablo arpg loot system to upgrade your ship. The story is been nothing special, but it has lots of progression mechanics that make number go up feel nice as you shoot space laser at space ships.

Just been debating what game to dig into next, I have stellar blade (I have no idea if it's good or just a Gooner game), the first berserker khazan, and the trails in the sky remake (I have played the original so not really rushing into it).

I have been considering more blue prince, I'm at the stage where I need to bring three things into a throne room in a single run, so we'll see if I can build the endurance to make that happen.

[–] ChaosMaterialist@hexbear.net 3 points 18 hours ago

Finally sat my ass down and finished my Mass Effect 1 game. Ran (mostly) Paragon, so I'm thinking I'll do a renegade run when I eventually replay ME2. Playing also made me want to reinstall KOTOR.

On another front, I'm getting into the various N64 recompilation projects. The Harbor Masters project has up and running builds for Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, and Star Fox 64. I'm particularly interested in the latter two because of multiplayer. Why hasn't there been a StarFox rail shooter since the 64?? Then there was the recent Banjo-Kazooie release and it runs beautifully. I'm used to the N64 emulators to be glitched in some way, especially Mario Kart and Banjo. I'm blown away how well things run particularly the special effects which are notorious for glitching in emulation, like the Puzzle Piece scene transitions in Banjo. The thing that really gets me about these projects is how smooth 60 fps is in these games after being locked into 24 fps for three decades.

Finally, my nephew got Minecraft for Christmas, but just now started playing it. Of course I'm getting sucked back in because I'm the only person who knows how to play. He's not quite ready for Survival so I've set him up with a sweet Creative house with a beacon and compass in case he gets lost. I honestly think creative is the best way to introduce people to the game since it's so much less stressful and survival still isn't much of a tutorial.

Playing ROMEO IS A DEAD MAN. Pretty good!
