Yeah, it gets reduced to a joke a lot of the time but we basically live in a panopticon. If almost anything you did online isn't known by the government, it's because they didn't care to retrieve it.

I've been wondering since I was a teenager when stuff like this would happen. It seems comically easy for tech companies to blackmail people with their Snapchat memories of drunk nights out in college or their porn history.
Only works for a short bit though because literally everyone has this “dirt” on them and after the first few people get embarrassed publicly it will cease to hit the same

There’s only one type of porn I can think of that has legal repercussions…
It's either trans/gay porn for reputation repercussions or CSAM for legal repercussions. Unless they are into animal abuse or snuff films or something

How does the government go about leaking someone's search history if they don't comply? Like I'm sure that they can get the information, but they really can only blackmail if it's something sketchy enough to be tangentially arrestable, otherwise they're either certifying the search queries are legitimate in the press release or arresting my favorite podcaster on charges of "really fucking weird kinks".
