It is a path to [...] deeper entrenchment of the forces the Left opposes

"Unlike if we just have to show that we won't resist, which will totally not lead to deeper entrenchment of ICE! We just need to show that we won't resist guys! That way they will realize that what they are doing is mean and bad and they will stop doing it!"

fucking liberals

I don't think we can really exceed the political weakness of the Dems no matter what we do.

epidemiologist

really makes you think!

[–] GladimirLenin@hexbear.net 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

it definitely made me think wtf an epidemiologist had to do with the subject matter.

[–] Philosoraptor@hexbear.net 11 points 22 hours ago

Gun deaths can (and should) be treated as a public health matter. This particular epidemiologist seems to have a bad take, but that's definitely a productive way to frame the discussion in general. Of course, the rising tide of fascism also impacts public health.

Thinking of violence of a disease. I get why they are thinking this. Violence will spread if the vector (guns, I guess) increase.

The issue is the implicit belief that escalation is a disease that should be avoided. If you flip the script and instead invoke herd immunity or the proliferation of anti-bodies to prevent further harm you get a very different take.

The way out is through.

[–] plinky@hexbear.net 9 points 1 day ago

Now if one were to engineer an epidemic specifically targeting ice agents, say by interfering with their face masks, that’s what epidemiologist might know about and should write an article curious-sickle

Robespierre famously told the San-Cullottes to stay home and not take up arms

authoritarianism

so tired of this baby-brained liberal bullshit. how about saying "nazism/fascism/white supremacy" instead of trying to punch at those who would actually stop this shit with force

[–] Lenins_Dumbbell@lemmygrad.ml 10 points 1 day ago

Why would they tell on themselves

[–] WokePalpatine@hexbear.net 38 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's a really bad article. Dipshit liberal academic. If you took her arguments to their conclusions we'd actually want to be arming right-wingers because they'll all kill themselves and shoot each other during arguments, which is obviously nonsensical.

[–] WokePalpatine@hexbear.net 25 points 1 day ago (1 children)

“In order for nonviolence to work, your opponent must have a conscience. The United States has none.” ~ Kwame Ture.

Turned out, socialist governments had conscience. Also:

"No one is going to give you the education you need to overthrow them" - Assata Shakur

Again, socialist governments did

My wine-liberal wife bought a gun and now she's struttin' 'round, spurs a-janglin', quick drawing repeatedly and spittin' all over the place. Not even close to the spitoon.

This cannot continue. And she drank all the sarsaparilla.

How exactly does being an epidemiologist make u an authority on guns and gun ownership

[–] footfaults@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 20 hours ago

It's based off public health studies where they make the case that more guns equals more deaths by homicide and suicide. That leads public health advocates to argue that guns need to be banned or more heavily regulated.

You could say the same things about cars. The pollution, micro plastics, and traffic deaths are a good reason to ban cars and make public transit the primary mode of transportation (which I want) but they don't do that..the car lobby is far more powerful than the gun lobby (surprising right?)

[–] Evilsandwichman@hexbear.net 7 points 1 day ago

To be fair this is better, because now there's no worry about the person in question committing the appeal to authority fallacy

Also this just whataboutauthorityism

[–] DogThatWentGorp@hexbear.net 7 points 1 day ago

It's like a new flavor of asking a CEO about physics.

[–] Saymaz@lemmygrad.ml 24 points 1 day ago

They hated authority so much that are now sourcing professional Information from non-authority figures on the topic.

This is why all gun purchases should require maintenance training or proof you can keep it maintained
